Sorry, but in my opininion Märklin and Roco are better, i have one from Hornby, the V 300, but it drives very bad. Curves are are a big problem. And it does not stopp correctly before my signals.

depends on the scale bachman OO scale will work on hornby OO scale

Any HO or OO train (Hornby, Bachmann, Athearn, Walthers, whatever) will work on any HO or OO track.

However you may find that American HO doesn't fit around the tight curves of a Hornby OO set. Most American trains would derail on a Hornby Radius 1 curve.
