  • BRILLIANT THANK YOU

  • 43 years old and still relate.... when i was at the head of the ride out at the isle of white scooter rally on my sportique with lights n mirrors this was the tune going thru my head,,,,, one of those magical times you get once in a lifetime,,,

  • Even 36+ years after first hearing it - this track and album still sends a tingle down the spine - continues to stand the test of time tells you everything you need to know about British working class kids growing up over the last 45 years

  • One of the few rare albums that actually help you in life

  • Zoot suit, white jacket, with side vents five inches long.

  • this album is coming out on a deluxe version . how fab . what an album ! i have played it to death for years . it's also my mum's fave album of all time ..

  • The piece transcends generations; definitely not stuck in time. Pete's writing was bloody brilliant!

  • I'm a seventeen year old girl and I 'get' it. The music that Pete wrote is understandable, whether you're black or white, young or old, male or female. Superficially it's indeed about the mods and the rockers, the post war era. Underneath it, and I'm sure Pete intended it that way, just like with 'Tommy', it's a universal story that every new generation can relate to. Trouble with humanity, trying so hard to fit in, parents screwing up, trying to make sense of the world, losing your love...

  • although pete uses the culture in england for this album, there is another message he installed. his own battles with alcoholism and addiction.

  • great song!

  • cant get that even tanned look kids

  • I doubt about the mental condition of the person(if he/she is one)who disliked this.

  • Worked myself to death , just to keep my Hair. Long hair , use to mean wisdom...

  • To get The Who, especially Quadrophenia, 100%, I think you have to be English. He sums up an era so well. Suburban London, circa 1965. I know how it feels but... I can't explain.

  • @TDJCCSGC English. BALLS IM SCOTTISH AND I GET IT

  • @TDJCCSGC I agree with 666767. Im Scottish, born 32 years after '65, and even i get it

  • @TDJCCSGC

I don't agree that you must be English. I am NOT English, but, in Quadrophenia, The Who so amazingly well reflected my feelings, at my time (1970s) and in my own culture, although it is (still) indeed so far away from the suburban London (even today). I still love them and I am almost 50 :-). I can't explain it either :-).

  • its me, arriving home at 7 on a sunday morning after a weekend on speed and my mums got a roast on the go...made me feel sick...my dad got out of bed and did'nt realise i'd been gone all weekend ? after 18 months on 20 blues every saturday night i was down to around 7 stones, not eating or drinking, how the fuck did i survive ?

  • Songwriting on the highest level

  • classic

  • Fantastic.

  • fucken unbelievable! someone hit the dislike button.

  • Seems to me Jimmys only real mates were his parents.

  • Pop quiz:

    What's a BOX OF BLUES?

    Thank you very much.

  • @erotomane2000 amphetamines

  • @erotomane2000 amphetamines

  • @entwisleisgod wow thanks!

  • One of the best reviews about this song ever. thanks.

  • If you listen closely, in the background, just before Pete goes into the second verse of this song, someone says, "You're on!" I always liked that, as I saw it as having a secondary meaning, alluding to the fights between the Mods and the Rockers. I've not heard it on remastered issues of Quadrophenia.

  • @Teflon65 I always wondered what i could hear it's at 1.26 i thought i could hear someone say 'grant'.I love this album check out the winning video for the 5.15 competition it's very good.Saw the who perform this album last year for the tct it was amazing

  • another fn' awesome song from an fn' awesome album!

    /watch?v=WJEdw3eYhkg

    hair starshine gm

  • definetly my fave who album and great song. saw this tour in '96 awesome!

  • what is this album about?

  • @kfag101 A young mod called Jimmy, he's quadrophenic (like schizophrenic but 4 personalities). He starts taking pills and heads down to Brighton with other mods for a confrontation with the rockers. When he gets back his mum and dad throw him out. I won't spoil the ending for you.. Definitely head out and buy the album and dvd.

  • @TwistAndSh00t awesome!! thanks

  • I've said it before, wish I could go back long enough to link this into my teenage mind as a soundtrack. Pete indeed is another manic artist, I thank him for being forthright, engaging and above all honest with the world about those feelings and thought we all would deny to save face in those young days.

  • favourite band and album of all time

  • ok people great song great band great film, but please just stop posting quotes from the song we can all hear and know the words.

  • This son is definitively another thing...my dad just left for work. he hasnt talking...My fried egg makes me sick.... first thing in the mourning...

  • I love every song from The Who, but album Quadrophenia is just special.

It's a lot deeper than Tommy, but I could never compare their songs, they're all just brilliant

  • @TheWhoForEverAndEver Spot on my friend. As i have said before on other Who vids, this band literally got me through high school! We Who fans got to stick together!!! Cheers!!!!

  • @8DoverNJ i'm still in the high school and it's getting me through it

  • my dad just left for work. he wasn't talking.

  • my dad just left for work. he wasn't talking.

  • Stellar. This song distills everything I, and imagine a majority of teens, lived through regardless of our fashion/music allegiances. That yearning to belong, be loved, be accepted and the impulse to defiance is so strong, I can taste it.

  • The best part of this song ends at 0:45.

  • The raw energy and passion of this band and music was a giant outlet for me in high school. The movie came along at the right time, I was 17 and was feeling many of the struggles as Jimmy. I could relate. Now I'm 47 and this album and movie still stirs me with it's energy and emotion as it did 30 years ago. Surprise, I'm in therapy......but not crazy.

  • Awesome song.......Like ALL the songs on the Album

  • hello matt stokes told you id check it out. i think i might have to go and get a hair cut now im feeling like an outcaste

  • my fried egg makes me sick

     first thing in the morning....

  • best song of quadro

  • @Keithmoon32 Couldn't agree more this song is the best and that's saying a lot the album is one of the best in my collection, and I'm 31!!!

  • The girl in the 'Stiped Jacket' "Jane" should have been me. (But I did not want to cut my hair...Fool that I was!) If you, or Maxine, or Julie see this ...Please contact me. My friends from Elliott. x Bernie x

  • Where on earth did you find these sublime photos?

  • @WorldOpener They're from the album cover.

  • Why does everyone go on about Tommy? I mean, it's good and everything, but it's not SUBLIME like Quadrophenia is.

  • @TDJCCSGC Got to be honest I thought Tommy was crap!! I love Quadrophenia, I was 5 when I first saw it I'm 31 now and all I do is wish I was part of the 60's mod generation, what we got today is complete and utter rubbish!

  • Another corker..thanks for your work in making an uploading these...very good! classic tracks playing along too...

  • love the film love the mods & me well a mod since 79 from beatlesteve1@hotmail.co.uk

  • Mods forever

  • Nobody would call The Barber of Seville a concept album. This is not Sgt. Peppers or Dark Side Of The Moon. It's an opera & just like any opera, Quadrophenia takes a small story & elevates it far beyond its historical significance. It's a modern epic masterpiece that transcends the rock music genre. Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story is cheesy by comparison.

  • @bondurango Well said. This music is timeless.

  • Thought I'd put 5:15 on at first.

  • pete townsend is a fucking genius

  • @LedZeppelin827 I agree, mate.!!!

  • i love the who.belle epoque.

  • Its a rock album and nothing to do with the Mod movement! Why do idiots keep thinking that because of the lyrics and the concept of the album that its Mod? The who only made one album which any genuine mod would listen to and that was their first (My Generation). The rest is just self indulgent rock rubbish! Remember! The Who where a band formed into Mods! The Small Faces where mods who formed a band!

  • Aye and you're no doubt right. But as to the last of your post, I'm 55 and never heard of the Small Faces....well not that I recall.

    But The Who?....unforgettable!

Admittedly, I'm not sure what the diff was between the Mods and Rockers...care to explain and enlighten?

  • @mertonparka I completely see where your coming from in terms of music, however, this album means so much to so many "Mods" because it can some up their lives in just one sitting. Then again, I guess the concept of this album can apply to pretty much any "fashion group" just change a few of the lyrics and it could quite easily be written for rockers...

  • just got the album cover tattoo on my right arm in colour

  • @mod69 are you Mad? Quadrophenia is a Rock concept album and nothing to do with the mod movement! Never ceases to amaze me the idiots who think that because of the theme and lyrics of this album that its Mod!

  • @mertonparka no thats what quadrophenia was written about, watch the movie or read the liner notes and the little booklet thing you get with the LP

  • @mod69 HI im a mod and 14 and that guy who is saying its not knod is a dume shit the who is modand so is quadrophenia cant wate intill im 16 coz i can get my 1st scooter need to pick up one of my new suits to day going to get some pie and mash if im nere a shop

  • @Mods130 Hi thanks for the comment. Its quite obivous what Quadro is about..right of passage etc but to say it has nothing to do with Mod could only come from a idiot.

Best of luck starting out on you're Mod career...stay cool

  • fuck me blues was so depesing ! i was on them for a while nearly toped myself too !!!! and dexadrin

  • Ma gaffer at work gave me one of his original ones simply because i'm 18 and love all this! he is infact a legend.

    cheers

  • the movie soundtrack is great but i cant seem to find a copy of the real quadrophenia vinyl.....bummer

  • lester , look on ebay , i saw several on ebay uk , worth a check any way

  • Excellent dressed right for a beach fight, wow does that bring back memories of the late 70s early 80s, what a track from probably the best band to ever come out of the UK.

  • my fried egg makes me sick first thing in the morning.

that is a really good line. you can really physically imagine what it's like to be jimmy. not only is he crazy (times 4), but he can't even enjoy a good meal when he wants!

  • @ManiacDrummer1212 Been there and done that...But the music has been healing...

  • a Beatle fan from way back..Still when I first heard "cut my hair"...I was drawn in..seemed to be just how I'd felt most of my life. Even now when I hear the words..."my fried egg makes me sick first thing in the morning, I'm taken back there, right to the pit of my gut. Pete stands right up there with Dylan pouring out from their experiences...sharing their pain and also their Joy.

  • An amazing song from the greatest album ever recorded. Sometimes I get so totally entranced by the bass lines Entwistle is playing that I have to listen to it again to hear the song as a whole. Brilliant stuff!!!

  • im 18 and i went to see quadrophenia at the theatre and thought it was amazing i wear the fish tail parkas pressed black trousers foxton shoes shirt tie target tshirt reefer jackets zoot suits and i just whished i was a teenager when all this was coming out it would have been great to have a vespa aswell we are the mods we are the mods we are we are we are the mods

  • yeah i know how you feel!!!

  • @adamccfc91 Its not a Mod Album! Are you stupid? Its a ROCK Concept album based on the story of a Mod!

  • You cant be thick if you took the time and effort to post this masterpeice. The mark of a face...appreciated cheers

  • I second that!

  • The radio, the kettle, fried egg, just makes me feel i am back there as a teenager in the kitchen at breakfast and then out into the early winter drizzle. Whta a genius so evocative brilliant just brilliant

  • @PunkntheGodfather and another year later I feel exactly the same

  • Thanks for the upload! I have the album on record but not yet on CD and half the time I'm to lazy to use the turntable. The other half of the time my cat likes to play DJ...

  • thumbs up for having a cat

  • The last minute is very emotional to me for some reason.

  • your info blurb was incredibly well written!

  • why should i have to move with a crowd of kids that harldy notice im around i work myself to death just to fit in!!!

  • @Anticrombie918 That feels like something the teenage me would say...great lyric!

  • @Anticrombie918 right being in any kind of group and posting a label on yourself is stupid. That is the idea of the movie.

  • Classic Track... another great posting,,, Thanx ;)

  • the girl sitting in front of the drums at 01:32 is my aunt.Sandra :))
