"My friend Steve Worley figured out this clever trick: you can have a minecart move past a plate and continue on, but only while boosted. Either boosted cart will move over a plate. "
This has been known for months! This is the primary method of making an automated minecart station.
@Shadow14l It's no doubt been known for months by some others - sorry to have wasted 8 seconds of your time ;->. It's a trick I didn't know, and not one mentioned on Minepedia. I had tried accelerating minecarts past plates myself without success. Getting them past more than one plate seemed beyond possibility. So I was pretty happy to find boosting would do so. BTW, Notch plans on removing boosters from the final game (see my Ghoom video description), so it's all a wasted effort anyway.
@Shadow14l Hmmm, looking around YouTube, I'm not finding any video showing minecarts moving *past* each plate. We've used the "pause on a plate and push a button" technique plenty of times in our world, but not "move past a plate without stopping". Could you please point me at videos that do use this second technique? I'm not doubting you, I just can't find any and would love to see what they do with with the idea. Thanks.

@Jamesia I leave that to the people with serious OCD, mine's worn off. As long as you give me a 15% royalty on any tunes created, I'll be satisfied.

@yarndovitch2 The 9 notes played are the first nine notes of "Fur Elise" ("For Elise"), a famous classical piece by Beethoven.

@MrErichaines
ah I didn't see the title - I came here from reddit and was trying to serripticiously show off that I recognized it. Now I just look silly. ;)
