Anakin defeated Palpatine, thus restoring a high amount of peace in the galaxy. At the end of episode six you saw a revolt in the Coruscant scene, where they were tossing Stormtroopers around. Without Palpatine and Vader, the Empire was severely cripped, and it was thanks to Anakin, but only after Luke helped open his eyes.
