It actually doesn't detect anything. It's made by PC Tools, and if you take a look at the free antivirus pctools offers for windows you'll notice its a piece of shit. it detects nothing. So does the mac version, they use the same scanning engine although the mac version has different definitions. iantivirus sucks. Use clamxav and scan your downloads
You're wrong. iAntivirus detects all the current Mac malware, as do commercial apps like Sophos, VirusBarrier etc.
The Mac version is very different from the Windows version, you have no idea of what you're talking about.
And also, just for your information, ClamXav does NOT detect Mac Malware, ONLY Windows malware. And since an antivirus is supposed to protect the OS you're using, it's basically useless if you want to protect your Mac.
Yeah well, he wasn't very informed in that case, apparently (like many Mac users using ClamXav thinking it will protect them). ClamXAv may be good to prevent you from sending Windows malware to Windows users (Though Clam AV has a very poor detection rate, from tests) but it doesn't really do much as far as an OS X av goes. iAntivirus is the only decent free av, apparently.
yea its funny because just today i downloaded something off some site i shouldnt have been at and i scanned it with clamxav and it didnt find anything. but something was fishy cus first of all i was downloading music but it was a dmg file and secondly the file was only .24 mb. So i decided to have virustotal scan it.(its a website that scans files with multiple av's) and it found so much crap, it found osxrsplug trojan downloader etc, its funny clamxav didnt find that stuff. i thought i was safe

You should review iAntivirus. It's much faster, free and detects only Mac malware.

Told you, ClamXav is useless. Get iAntivirus, or, if you want to go for the commercial route, Sophos and VirusBarrier are the bests.
