I hope they keep this bridge intact. I am a Rambo fan, and for me First Blood is one of the best action movie ever made, and with the nicest locations.
I'm from Barcelona, Spain and one day i hope to visit Hope. It's one of my dreams.
So please, the people who live there try to do all you can to avoid this bridge disappear. Just in the name of Rambo!
The city of Hope just passed a vote to build the new bridge. We are happy for the vote and glad Hope is growing forward. We still arewishing the bridge is saved and we are moving forward with the filming of Part 5 of save the bridge and the fight will live on.subscribe and watch for part 5
We have decided due to a petition that stoped this construction of the new bridge. There is now a referendum in place march 13th and we would like to not have any effect on the election. We will not discuss any opinions in relation to if they should build a new bridge or not. We just want them to save the old bridge for parklands and tourism use if they do build a new bridge.
I was there in October. I took lots of pictures of that bridge and other locations in Hope, which is just gorgeous. Hello to the very friendly people of hope. I also love the Blue Moose :)
keep the bridge save the money and build a new fucking one no reason to tear it down just got paved not to long ago railing has been reeplaced many times so this is a decent bridge that should stay!!!
I've been over that bridge a few times. I didn't realize it had that much traffic on it. Hope's not a bad little town. I always eat at Rolly's when I'm passing through.
If the bridge really NEEDS to be replaced, then fine. But building a new one alongside it should be a great solution. I don't personally care about its tie to Rambo, but many do. It is a tourist attraction for Hope, who's economy relies heavily on the tourism industry. I travel on this bridge several times a week and I love it's rustic beauty. I will be calling the city.
Many of the locals do have pride and don't want the bridge taken away. It's the district and the company doing do the work that want it gone. We want it to stay as a foot bridge at the very least. We do NOT want it ripped down. :(
Good job Ryley... :) Its Vinny here back from Quebec. No way its gonna be destroyed !?! I have some nice memories from back in the days. Hope they gonna keep a part of it and make some memorial or some like that. They can even recycle the materials from the old bridge to create a pedestrian bridge next to the new one... so this way history is preserved and the circulation will be upgraded as well. I just hope that every one gonna find what they want in the end. take care
What a waste of my tax dollars. OF COURSE the company doing the work doesn't want the town to keep it as a foot bridge when they are charging more than two million to take it down. I have used this bridge every day for 24 years. The only thing that causes a problem with its size is stupid drivers. Build a new bridge for the whiny bad drivers. Leave this bridge as a foot bridge. Just another bad way of spending tax money that could be better spent on other things in town.
It's a Howe Truss bridge. There's one in Quesnel and they made it into a walking bridge and are quite proud of the heritage value of it. After all, there are very few such bridges left in B.C.
So why would Hope be in such a hurry to destroy their Howe truss bridge?
Why spend money to wreck that which already exists?
that is bullshit.. i have lived here for awhile and this is just bullshit and a waste of money and alot of memories such as rambo. and its just no point in tearing it down..
I have lived on the Kawkawa side of the rambo bridge for 7 yrs and have had to cross the bridge at least 4 times a day. I think the new bridge is a waste of money. 2 vehicles can pass on the bridge fine, and so what if you have to wait a few minutes while a larger vehicle goes across. I think this day and age people are getting impatient and need to learn to slow down. I believe if we had a new bridge, accidents on the bridge would increase. Keep the Bridge! Dont waste $10 mil.
Notice how much traffic has to cross this bridge? Notice the speed bumps to stop speeders from crossing this bridge? The population on the Kawkawa Lake side has more than doubled in the last 20 some odd years. There is also a water factory on the other side of this bridge now. It must be replaced for the sake of safety and a fast growing community.
I have had many close calls and I'm happy for this replacement.
I have lived in Hope for 20+ yrs and had to cross that bridge on a daily basis. While I respect the historical sentiment people have with the bridge, I believe some serious changes need to be made. The width of the bridge is hazardous for 2 cars to cross in opposite directions. In the video, you can see how close vehicles pass by each other. Likely more than 1 person has had their side mirror ripped off by oncoming traffic. Perhaps petition the town to expand the bridge instead of replacing it?

Some of the Locals just don't seem to care about having a beautiful town. Take the bridge away and you take away a reason to visit! Have some pride!

This has turned into quite a soft spot for locals, it seems to be a topic worth looking into closer!

the bridge needs to go, those are the facts. did we cry when they paved over the roads that rambo walked/drove over? who gives a shit
kissorkill11 2 years ago
I've never been to the bridge, but it would be nice to visit. They should if conditions permit build a new bridge on either side of the old bridge.
Railhead1956 2 years ago
It's a goddamn bridge. People crying over this should take a step back, structures need to be replaced/upgraded on occasion.
Sure it would great if they just built a new bridge/road off to the side and made it some sort of monument or tourist attraction.
But seriously, no big deal.
Conceited98 2 years ago
maybe they could keep this bridge for foot traffic, and build another one a little over to the side for the cars.
