3:38.. he mother: as young boy he was very demanding, never content with himself, when he played, when he played recorder or piano, and it was good he was overjoyed and smiled all the way. father: he had a so called speech fluency disorder from young age, as kid in school where you get stuck. I said to myself, when you sing in the bath tub or you ahve a wind instrument it'll get better... I wnet to the music teacher of his future gymnasium and asked what would you recommend.
6:46 I am part of an inspiring ensemble. a lot of will power and the higher the "niveau" of an orchestra the more of this energy there is. when i return from a solo tour and i sit down here I feel very well. Aviat: I never heard an oboist so similar to a voice. he artuclates every tone and his vibrato is near to vocale. it hits me- the oboe is so near to the human voice with him it's extreme. his cd "lieder ohne worte" you notice the proximity....
he did nothing than to play oboe, he had a sign on his chamber door "I love my oboe"- mother: I thoought as mother, my gog, he will ruin himself, if he keeps practicing like this. but he was blissful with it. Simon: ... fantastic oboist, you never know when someone is blossoming, and all of the sudden you have the greatest oboist on earth and the orchestra helped him... Albrecht: he ist very fair to everyone, no lobbyism in no direction. he is very professional, I have the great luck...
the teacher said: Herr Mayer, How about an oboe. why? , we want to open an oboe band. the mother: he has found himslef in the oboe or the piano and he waas joyful and felt free. all the pressure was taken from him, he was only content whe he could make music. the father: it is a small miracle. he was perect from the beginning on. he fell imemdiately in love with the instrument, it was a little scary...other parents must tell their children to practice, we had to tell Albrecht, please stop it !
2: i can remember well when my father returned from this physician's shop and put the oboe on the table. before my brother and me and sais: so, you're a going to learn this. and i must admit at the age of ten, i knew nothing aboput the instrum, ent. I said. ok, wonderful. the he tried indeed to play a few notes, he failed miserably. and it was good to see that someone who was superioir to us had to fail.
2:30 bamberg plays a big role in my life, it's my home town, my parents, my family my ex-collegues my friends live here. i like returning here. I have warm feelings wehn i come back.- not just because of fried sausage and beer, but because i like the breed of people here.
0:31..it is my destiny to accept the oboe as my medium, althoug it is demanding at times, it has simply become my voice. in an other life I could well have become a singer or perhaps a conductor or perhaps an actor. whon kows (or butcher). i cannot say. oboe is to me just a means to the end, only a medium to make music with..and..therefore i am much more occupied how i can produce a line, maybe an emotion within the listener, not so much that i can say this was particuarly good oboe playing.
0:05 ... I don't play the oboe as an oboe... I was never interested in the oboistic at all... I am not intersted if someone can make a faster staccato than someone else, or faster fingers or can play louder. i am not interested. i like it when you can use the oboe as a medium , others may play ocarina or recorder, and can fascinate people. I am only intersted in the medium "instrument"- not in the oboe as such. i am not intersted in this at all.
he is one of the best in the world playing oboe, but i still dont find the oboe timbre 100% good.. still sounds a little like a duck, i think i will never really like oboe :/
I ADMIRE HIM!!! A LOT , HE IS MY INSPIRATION TO CONTINUE STUDYING OBOE EVERYDAY, BUT PLEASE ENGLISH SUBTITLES. THE ONLY WORD THAT I UNDESTAND OF ALL THE VIDEO WAS OBOE!!
I have a crappy oboe. It's not real wood. It's like...plasticy or something. The keys are loose and my very low and very high notes make a bubbly sound. My reeds always die super fast. It's all screwed up! hahaa. I feel like I would be a really great player if my equiptment agreed with me!
Albrecht ist mein held(: Ich kann die oboe gespielen, und dass ist sehr spass. Albrecht ist sehr cool(: Ich glaube Albrecht ist die beste oboe spieler auf die welt!!
(continued)...instrument he had played, like piano, etc. He was "in love" with his oboe. The other oboist at the end talks about how albrecht's tone is so close to that of a voice, in it's resonance, vibrato, and the incredible ease he has in performing. The oboist says that it is an incredible opportunity to work with such a renowned performer like Albrecht.
I like the documentary so far. I wasn't too familiar with this oboist until I heard a recording he played in recently.
For those of you non-german speakers watching this, mainly what they are talking about the relationship between Albrecht and his oboe. He starts out by talking about how the oboe is a medium for expressing his ideas and emotions, and elaborates. His parents later talk about how when he first started the oboe, that he was totally in love with it, moreso than any other...
I would like to know the logic of the previous post. How come he has to has a great car? Why? You are materialistic, but it does not mean everybody is thinking like you.
wish i could understand what Albrecht was saying. Is there any way to get a brief summary of what he was talking about...I'm assuming it was oboe reeds. English subtitles would be great :)
the man is a wonderful musician.. I just whish that I could speak german, in order to understand what he says or that there were english subtitles, so I could enjoy the video even more... pity..
Am fascinated by the oboe albrecht plays. Had always thought he played a buffet greenline, but the top of the oboe being white, makes me wonder if buffet has made yet another model, or if, indeed, he's playing entirely another make of oboe. Anyone out there know?
He plays a Buffet Crampon Green Line...this model has some elephant tooth ornaments on the top piece and on the bell. He was testing it, if it had any influence on the tone. He later removed it.
I WOULD LOVE TO PLAY ON A REED MADE BY HIM!
