What everyone should know is, the young man who supposedly was "cured" of his homosexuality, James Stabile, was never really cured. He parted ways with this church about 6 weeks later and went home to his family, who love and support him.

Yes, I did a google search on him just now. His own father is a Methodist minister and from what I gather not so "fundie". Apparently he also has psych issues not related to being gay... he's bi-polar. Folks with underlying psych issues are much more susceptible to the effects of the group hysteria (NOT the "spirit") that happens at these fundie meetings. Really, it's just a group psych experience and James got caught up in it.

And you're right... being gay needs no cure :)

Yes! The "hysteria" brought on by religious revivals can affect various people in different ways, and not just those with specific pysch issues. Those that are perhaps a bit gullible or perhaps weak-willed. Those with excessive fears about death or "sin". Those that are unable to accept themselves as they are and want a "transformation". It's all in the mind, and they become a part of the hysteria. Emotions run rough-shod over the logical, reasonable mind, stifling it.

I went from being a type of fundamentalist (Mormon) to being a more liberal christian (tried Episcopal and a few others for a while) to now being happily a secular humanist and general non-believer. Life is much better for me!

But I certainly respect those christians who embrace the real message of christ.
