  • Top Gear FOR LIFE !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Top Gear fans make me so happy. I am here solely because of Jezza's undying Genesis loyalty and Hamster's undying hate of it/them.

  • 2:17 Richard Hammond: I HATE THAT PART!

  • Richard Hammond DESPISES this song! +D Just watched Top Gear hehehe

  • Thumbs up if you liked this song to spite Richard Hammond!

  • proper music...wake up world !!!! this is what music is supposed to be like.... not like it is these days ...shame where did it all go wrong .................

  • now i know what i like.......

  • Only kidding!

    ...and promoting! ;-)

  • Isn't this 'The Musical Box' Canadian tribute band?

    Still good!

  • I never knew what a beautiful androgynous figure peter gabriel struck in his early days. Kind of like how Bowie was so pretty. He even moves with the grace of a woman. it is strangely attractive. What you are seeing in this video is a a true artist. Someone who is expressing something with absolutely no care for convention.

  • Phil Collins is every bit as genius as Peter Gabriel. 1/8 of either of them is 5000 times more than anything that is being marketed as music these days. Phil is also one of the most under rated drummers. Seen them in concert in 76' (after Gabriel) and it was one of the best concerts I ever went to.

  • muito bom!!!!

  • Gabey is so tweaked out in this vid...absolute genius...

  • i missed this song so much since i last went on youtube, thank god i still have it on my playlist.

  • he's such a weirdo, but so brilliant

  • It is as bad as I thought.. no wonder Richard Hammond hates it XD

  • 42 People don't know what they like

  • Thumbs up if you prefer Genesis with Peter Gabriel!

  • The impressive performance!

    Are still contemporaries.

    High quality sound.

    Immortals!

  • brilliant

  • Great song ... Genesis is one of the best bands in the world

  • You gotta love Peter Gabriel. The man is brilliantly unique. A class to himself.

  • Listen up kids .....SERIOUSLY good MUSIC!

  • I remember crying for days when I was a schoolgirl and Gabriel left. I thought the band would end. Well it didn't of course, and I like Collins too - but Gabriel was always my childhood hero:)

  • The only PG era song that sounds better with Phil on vocals IMHO

  • @kfsfkakf so does in the cage and carpet crawlers

  • @greatpcfan Yes on Carpet Crawlers after hearing it on Seconds Out. In the Cage they both do a good job

  • Steve Hackett playing the Coral Sitar!!!

  • Pete is an acid head!

  • I`ve took to many mushrooms

  • A cover is always necessary. In concealment lies a great part of our strength. Hence we must always hide ourselves under the name of another society. --Die neusten ararbeiten des Spartacus and Philo in dem Illuminaten-Orden, 1794, p: 165

This is taken from page 491 of Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. 'Coincidentally' Umberto Eco has written the introduction to the newly printed version of Alexandre's The Count of Monte Christo.

  • yeah, right, Gabriel never did any acid, yeah, right!

  • as good as it gets

  • thanks for this treasure,it's part of my life

  • Peter is greater than God.

  • Gabriel is one sexy mutherfucker. Love him.

  • Wish I had been into Genesis when they were popular. Regretfully I ended up

hearing them once Gabriel left, which actually is ok, since he really needed to do

    his own thing.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • outra pérola do Genesis....maravilhoso...

  • this song is so retro i love the 70's & the 60's

  • Classic Video...Thanks for the Upload. I saw Genesis back in the day at least 7 or 8 times, when they would come around to Chicago...Every Year...and tickets were like 8 bucks, They were fantastic live... The concert vibe was a lot different back then as well (quite smoky if ya know what I mean). What a divine intervention grouping of brilliant creative musicians...Classic stuff right from the start!

  • bought this as a single when it came out played it over and over, then discovered the B side twilight alehouse what a GEM why they never put it on one of their albums has got to be the biggest mystrey in their History.

  • Ah such creativeness, such wonderful song writing ability, not to be found in Modern music, with the exception of a few American indie bands...mainly Animal Collective, The National or Beirut to name a few...

  • ガブリエル時代の映像ロックだネ、"I KNOW WHAT I KIKE"~"ジェネシス・ライヴ"のジャケ写真が蘇る~途上の頃だ!

  • Brilliant!!!! Thanks for posting

  • i never get tired of this

  • COSMIC LAWNMOWER!!!!

  • It's sad how nowadays you can't dance like this anymore on stage, or sing lyrics like this song's, or wear this hat, or play flute on rock songs without being called "mad" by the society...

  • @MokRodrigues I understand the sentiment of many of your comments, but... Lady GaGa is a prime example that people are still able to be who they are on stage, if not more so now than ever. The 60s, 70s & 80s were truly a renaissance for self-expression through art, and the 90s as well as onward have only kept that going. Alot of people ridicule today's music for being "bad" [I happen to love it, & am 24], but... atleast WeRwhoWeR.

    :^)

"...and that has made all the difference."

    - $

  • Quite a lovely song, agriculturally speaking.

  • Much as I love Gabriel, he's no Ian Anderson on the flute, bless him!

    Love the song though.

  • simply amazing...

  • 2:20 That is my new favorite dance. We should give it a name.

  • este peter era um encenador

  • Phil Collins ruined Genesis

  • @cramdizzl how can you say that? I like both sides of genesis and I think Collins helped Genesis. Gabriel was awesome too

  • phill collins used to have hair......dammm

  • Perfect in every way...an absolute classic

  • Love this song, even though Peter Gabriel is just a touch off his trolley!!!!!

  • good lord this was just way too good. i doubt i'll find another video to top it.

  • My fav video on all of You Tube...Pure peter Gabriel

  • 'It's one o'clock and time for lunch'

  • Absolutely brilliant! Gabriel is great (and really eccentric) live. And Phil Collins with hair!!! Oh my poor heart!

  • @philfriel001 wasn't phil a cutie! yes he was. ah youth is fast and fleeting!

  • love this song and album

  • IM 120 YEARS OLD, AND I LOVE THI SONG

  • without doubt Peter Gabriel is a genius

  • knob. better without him

  • Hacket's music, Gabriels words, Banks hated it.

  • Please, stop hatin' the Gaga and just respect the Gens.

  • i'm walking like a lawnmower already...cool beans :)

  • 38 people walk like lawnmowers and don't like to be reminded of it.

  • another awesome Genesis track sung by Peter Gabriel,

  • Used to listen to SEBTP over and over and over and over and over and over...probably has a lot to explain for.

  • I like how older music actually has meaning to it, there subliminal meanings in all the music, whereas now its just 'you're hot, my show is in your town tonight, lets get high and do it hard before i leave tomorrow forever' older songs like this, zeppelin, guns n roses, all that has thought put into the lyrics, and messages and crazy stuff. todays music is too literal, about clubbing and drinking and screwing. at least older bands could sing about that all in a more badass way

  • @nickiscool311 The philosophy of the execs today: You can't go broke appealing to the lowest common denominator. Apparently, they're right.

  • @marcio3471 legal saber disso...

  • you coincidentally when i was watching this video, my neighbor is mowing there lawn.

  • oh i know what Peter Gabriel is doing at the beginning and end of the song, he pretending to use a lawn mower, i thought he was in a warzone at first. the songs about a lawn mower.

  • It's easy for me: I grew up with this exceptional band. Respect for the later generations who look and listen and analyse "the old stuff". Maybe even easier for them tough... if the motherfucking crap produced nowadays make them run away hard from it!

GENESIS must be then a safe heaven of exceptional quality with no mercy on quality, arrangement, instruments, skills, talent and performance! And never forthe money. That came along with how-good-they-proved-to-be.

  • It's one o' clock and time for lunch, ambdambdambdimdamb... My line before lunch from now on!

  • Great stuff !Dum dee dumm !

  • the best off

  • o que dizer mais se a "GORSKIED" disse tudo.

  • @KIMORID google translate tells me this is a compliment. Thanks!!

  • What is this from?

  • @DeafFret Selling England By The Pound

  • La cagó Genesis !!! Antes que muera uno de ellos, por favor reunanse en una gira mundial con los temas de la era Gabriel, el mundo se los agradecerá !

  • @enfermacevic totalmente de acuerdo contigo

  • Steve's playing a (Coral?) electric sitar here! I'm not sure he continued using it in later years; it seems absent on the "Seconds Out" version of this song. Wonder if the sitar was used on any other Genesis songs?

  • Man i need the complete itroducing speech , I'm mexican , so my listening habilities are not so good , could somebody write it on a comment for me ?? please!!

  • @alexslash08 "And now, we'd like to take you a little further westward - agriculturally speaking - to where the sweet smell of freshly mown grass pervades our hairy nostrils..(I'm not sure exactly what he says here, but I'll type what I think it is)..it's now enough time for the cosmic lawnmower..(then the song starts)..it's one o' clock and time for lunch - hum dee dum dee day - when the sun beats down and I lie on the bench, I can always hear them talk."

  • Man i need the complete itroducing speech , I'm mexican , so my listening habilities are not so good , could somebody write it on a comment for me ?? please!!

  • @alexslaHere's the introduction speech

And now we'd like to take you a little further westward, agriculturaly speaking.

To where the sweet smell of freshly mown grass purvades our hairy nostrils,

stepping of time with a cosmic lawn mower,

it's one o'clock and time for lunch fundi dumdi day,

when the sun beats down and I lie on the bench,

I can always here them talking (Song starts)

  • @Frobe1357 'it's knocking-off time for the cosmic lawn mower'

  • @TheAtomiser Thanks I couldn't really understand what he was saying at that bit

  • Alright peter gabriel may not be able to sing as good as phil collins but can phil collins sing like peter gabriel

  • Isn't it a pity that Genesis has fallen apart and Phil Collins now seems to run the band? These old days are so much better. The same with Marillion, better early in their careers. Oh well, have to live on memories now. Peter Gabriel was and still is BRILLIANT!

  • peter gabriel is a god. show a little respect, idiots. he has more brains in his pinky then you'll ever have.

  • no other work of art has anything on this

  • i prefer Gabriel era to Collins era but as solo artist they are both gd as well.

  • Peter looks so feminine I am having confusing sexual thoughts. What's a god like you doing in a place like this...

  • @BowedOak1 HAHAHAHAAA......thats what happens when your tweaked out on mind expanding substances...like Peter was back then....plus you have to remember he is in make up with eye liner, in costume and incredibly thin at this point of his career.

  • @craigalan100 go where the sweet smell of freshly mown grass can pervade your hairy nostrils

  • my god look how young Collins is!!!

  • This is music at its absolute best. The crap they have today (bubble gum pop Justin Bieber or lame ass scene bands Fallout Boy) got nothing on this music. Nowadays it's "get rich quick music"! Music companies now wouldnt know great music if it bit them in the ass.

  • Wow Peter's such a skinny, odd thing. I cannot stop watching this video.

  • Justi, if your out there, I remember this well, and how very good Karima was to us young people...

  • Oh my god what have I just watched. No wonder my mom loves Peter Gabriel!! He's such a wacky little thing!

  • THERE'S ONLY OOOONE PETIE GABRIEL!!!!!

  • shit the beginning is so creepy.

  • such a cool band

  • Absolutely love this performance.

  • Lady Gaga never claimed to be wholly original just an artist. A real artist, she doesn't deserve to be insulted just cause she was born 30 years in the future. At least she had sense to look for what came before.

  • @Jaycee37 fuck the bitch, watch carpet crawler live with peter gabriel, the best...

  • @Jaycee37 That ugly slag could suck my dick any day.

  • Take note ye, you greatest generation, for you have witnessed the best of Genesis. The Mecca of Prog rock. You shall be remembered for enternity, because you where there, and all before you and after will be forever jelous, for you have witnessed the pinnacle of Poetic Rock, and we of the modern generation have to deal with Beyonce singing about a single lady, and will be forever in an age of repetitiveness music that has no intellect behind it .

    Signed

    A new generational Genesis fan.

  • this is bullshit everyone knows that the best thing that came from genesis is Phil Collins solo career SU SU SU SUSSUDIO!!!!!!

  • @reaper69316 Are you nuts? Phil Collins? Good gawd buddy, look who still on top AND touring currently? Yes, it's Peter

and he and Genesis always wrote jaw dropping lyrics and played music unlike anyone else. Seriously, su su sudio was lame. Phil should have stayed behind the drumkit.....

  • pure brilliance!! luv it!!!

  • 2:21 lol! gotta love them all!!!!

  • ..."I'm just a lawnmower"

  • 40 years on and still great!

  • This is my favorite video on here..I wish I could see live shots of him swinging out and walking on people's heads...Peter loved doing that in theaters

  • Haha i'm 15 and GENESIS IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BAND

By the way 37 people need to go to where the sweet smell of freshly mown grass can pervade their airy nostrils

  • @GORSKIED i smelled it too, glad you like Genesis..some people your age like shit like Lady Gaga like skins obsessed saddos today

  • @Pittking86 Teehee, I'm thirteen and I adore Genesis, too. Best band 'til Phil had to assist in the destruction of Progressive Rock. There are tons of kids with taste in good music; not only Prog, but also Zeppelin, and Hendrix, Janis Joplin, so many of us like it! But, still, the majority of adolescents like... what did you call it? Shit?

    Not music, whatever it is.

  • @GORSKIED It's nice when younger ppl out there realize that today's music, which is marketed strictly to their generation, can't compare at all to what was being created in the late 60's, 70's, etc.

  • @GORSKIED Now it's 40 and I know, the word is hairy

  • @GORSKIED im 14 and we are in the Wrong generation

  • @ThePinkguns I know. I listen to all of my friends say lil' wayne is their favorite artist/makeshift god. I say that my favorite act is Genesis and they say who? It's annoying
