unless you got forced induction, an after market intake does absolutely nothing for an rx8 except change the engine sound. the stock airbox is damn near perfect. rove the baffles and you will maximize the airflow. they're simply there to quiet the engine. Mazda tweaked the air intake pretty damned well. so, if you want to senselessly, needlessly spend your money on useless, worthless engine mods, by all means get an after market intake. otherwise, same your money for something worthwhile l

So, in my case, I worry about fuel economy, but I also accept those costs when they are worth it. And for a RX-8, they are.

By the way, I have no Idea how it is in Britain, in Germany, diesel powered cars do pay a bunch taxes more, so they are profitable if you drive around 15'000 miles a year (vary from engine to engine).

I'd agree with that. Although in UK right now, you'll get a fairly good 330Ci from £8k to £10k. And an RX-8 from £6-9k. Similar ages and miles covered. So there is not a lot in it.

Diesels are not really subject to any additional taxes, however, they are generally more expensive to buy and thus similarly if you do the math sometimes you need to do a specific amount of miles for it to work out cheaper. On the day to day though, having a car you can throw around with all that torque but returning 45+mpg is good.

@Amypr1ncess all turbos do have bovs.. on petrols atleast anything made after about 1990. They are all recirculating blow off valves from stock which dont vent to atmosphere but put it back into the intake after the afm. You can't hear them normally but if you put a pod filter on you can. Mine is about 80% as loud as an atmo bov and is a recirc one

I have an 04 RX8 and the only bad thing about it is that it's a 1.3 litre and yet it uses as much fuel as a fucking V8. I get like 18 mpg on a good day and 16 when I feel like having fun :-D

Actually, that's the sales and marketing specification. In reality, the engine is classified as a 2.5-3.0l by engineers for testing and comparison.

There's no direct comparison between cylinder volume and the cubic capacity of a rotary's chambers.

If the car was not warmed to operating temp prior to the reving, the engine would run in open loop, causing a rich mixture and fuel that isn't completely burned in the engine to burn in the exhaust, and the popping is the gas igniting while in the exhaust. He also might have the car set up to run richer than a stock tuned RX8 (unless yours isn't stock). you'll notice that pop on a lot of tuned JDM cars.

I wouldn't waste money on the MS intake... it's just a AEM cold air with Mazda's logo on it, and you might get 2hp out of it... and your money is better spent on the cobb tuning port which can give you up to a 45hp increase, but won't work with an aftermarket intake because it severely distorts 02 sensor readings...

Im lookin at getting a 04 with 60k miles. it has a 6 spd. i notice it seems to hesitate about 2-3 secs when starting. Is this normal? Is the engine seals anything like the rx-7 where it has to be replaced around every 70-80 k miles?

Actually due to the risk to a rotary engine of starting the engine up and shutting down before it warms to operating temperatures, you should rev it to between 3000 and 4500 RPM for around 10 seconds, so it burns off the rich fuel mix that is used to start, otherwise it can flood the chamber and screw your compression next time you turn it over. He prolly touched over that limit, but it's printed 3 dozen places in the factory service manual, and they mention it when you take delivery from Mazda.

Mine was a group order from rx8onwersclub UK. I think company which one done a order, directly from Borla factory was 'U.S. Automotive'. With shipping £479. Have a look, there is quite many shops in US which one are selling this exhaust, but shipping might cost a little bit more;)

I would definately not recommend getting an '07. The value just dives on these things. I've tried selling my '04 a few times and there is NO demand for 8s. Get a moderately low mileage '05 for $16K.
