When I was litte, my mum would flip through the channels trying to find something for me. One time, she found a child beauty pageant, and said " look, little girls like you" I was wondering why these little girls were on tv, and I wasn't. I wanted to be like them. It turned out my mum read my mind and searched the topic. A pageant offer came in the mail later that week. My mum said no. Years later, I looked the topic up, and I understood what she meant.
We don't have these in the uk and if we do they are not publicists beause we frown on these things I think it should be made child abuse. They make their kids thing beauty is everything. Let worry Bout it when they are teenagers.

My little girl is a beauty queen and she loves doing pagents. Pagents do take a lot of time and money to pre-pare for them but they are all worth it when your little one wins. There is no better feeling that hearing your childs name being called as a national or overall winner it is an amazing feeling and the best part is seeing the other children and their mothers faces when they do not win. It is lovely to have a reputation as winning all pagents, people are threatened by you and your daughter

Some of the kids seem to have a good time, but most of them always seem so sad. And their parents and coaches are always yelling at them.

Doesn't mean they hate doing pageants. They need to show all these girls on stage. They would all have a smile on there face. Most love when they are on stage not before going on stage. But if I had kids in pageants in the future, I would stop the pageants if they never win. That might be hard on them to lose a lot.

My mother used to make me compete in modeling... I started before I was a year old. I absolutely hated it and I remember the other parents were shady as hell. She finally let me quit doing it when I was about 6. I feel bad for these girls because I know first hand what they have to go through :(

im doing a research paper on child beauty pageants and many of these girls are forced to do them by their parents... If they want to do it, that's fine, I guess, just don't force them to do it. And don't make them look like mini strippers when they are in pageants. Also, the difference between sports and pageants, for those who are saying they are the same, sports judge you on what you can PHYSICALLY do, while pageants judge you mostly on beauty, thus the term BEAUTY pageants. Yeah I know, there's also talent, pro-am, and things like that, but lets face it, beauty is mostly what matters in those things.
Instead of spending time in such shallow activities, why not do things with your little girl like teaching them how to swim, showing them nature, taking them on walks, learning about the world, geography, foreign countries, enrolling them in classes to learn another language, playing with clay, teaching them make so that they become proficient, reading to them, playing board games, teach them about other religions and cultures, teach culinary art skills, researching science, etc.
Pageants don't take up all time. Yes, those things are beneficial but pageants can be too. Also, when you get older pageants can be based on academic acheivements and can provide scholarships!
LOL , I homeschool . What you describe is my life. My daughter also does pageants, she is extremely proud of her glitz pics. My daughter also knows that she does not look like that in real life and for her its fun. My daughter also keeps her hair blonde to be like Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I will say that it has not hurt her at pageants though. She is also active at church and with many other activities. Don't make judgments on a few still photos.

i am a pageant mom and i dont "live" through my daughter we do practice a few hours a week does your child practice say football i thought so anyways pageants most days are natural not all the make up and hair anymore my daughter loves pageants and when she doesnt want to them anymore that fine! im tired of everyone putting us moms down and if you watched this documentry you would see these are toughed up photos!

When I was litte, my mum would flip through the channels trying to find something for me. One time, she found a child beauty pageant, and said " look, little girls like you" I was wondering why these little girls were on tv, and I wasn't. I wanted to be like them. It turned out my mum read my mind and searched the topic. A pageant offer came in the mail later that week. My mum said no. Years later, I looked the topic up, and I understood what she meant.

My little girl is a beauty queen and she loves doing pagents. Pagents do take a lot of time and money to pre-pare for them but they are all worth it when your little one wins. There is no better feeling that hearing your childs name being called as a national or overall winner it is an amazing feeling and the best part is seeing the other children and their mothers faces when they do not win. It is lovely to have a reputation as winning all pagents, people are threatened by you and your daughter

I have not competed in pageants, but I've worked them as a tech.
Some of the kids seem to have a good time, but most of them always seem so sad. And their parents and coaches are always yelling at them.
Also, I notice the way the girls treat each other. Both parents and kids calling the other competitors ugly behind each other's backs. Won't they get enough of this crap in high school?

Doesn't mean they hate doing pageants. They need to show all these girls on stage. They would all have a smile on there face. Most love when they are on stage not before going on stage. But if I had kids in pageants in the future, I would stop the pageants if they never win. That might be hard on them to lose a lot.

This video is well done by the way and the song is perfect. I'm sure all these parents have their reasons and excuses. The fact that there are so many photo montoges of pageant children on the internet for any sicko to look at is beyond stupid.I would never do that to my child. The fact that they have so many photos where the eyes have been totally replaced with fake eyes is very telling because I can't imagine anyone looking at their child with totally fake eyes and thinking that's pretty.

Im the mom of two stunningly beautiful girls and I would never put them in this position. Whether the child wants to do this or not is beside the point. It's the parent's job to protect their well being and from the eyes of strangers.A parent should err on the side of caution from objectification,judging,psychological damage.A parent should not "market" their child. I find the "touchups" where freekish baby doll eyes are put over the child's real eyes so disturbing!

no one is "marketing' their child chick. so bascially you are saying if your kad came to you begging to do something they really really wanted to do. you would say no if you didnt like it? thats just not fair to ur child. a parents job is to be supportive

Dear jayjay girl, a parent's job is not to be supportive. A parent's job is to be a parent. That should mean sometimes saying "no" when a parent knows something is a bad idea. Pimping your child out to pedophiles and teaching them empty values like these pageants do, certainly would fall into that category for me. I happily support my daughter in activities that she enjoys and that promote the values our family holds dear. Besides, what child spontaneously, requests to be in a pageant?

um, me. a couple years ago i asked my mom if i could do a pageant and she always liked miss america as a child and all that and said yes. so dont say no one asks to do them also on toddlers and tiarras rylan and jessie asked.
pageants aren't teaching 'empty values'.

You dumb people, kids that do pageants WANT to do them. Ever try to make a kid do anything they didn't want to do? This includes T-Ball, soccer, girl scouts... My kid loved doing pageants and begged to compete. We couldn't go as often as she wanted due to family finances. Get over the pageant bashing... it's so 1999.

im doing a research paper on child beauty pageants and many of these girls are forced to do them by their parents... Also they wear fake teeth , fake hair(to makeit look 'big') fake eyelashes and spray on tans. i was even more suprised to find that there are pageants for a 1 and under catagory!! :( it so sad that they feel there never good enough

my sis does pageants and is age 2. she absoltouly adores them. she also takes gymnastics and loves that two. it is just a hobby like dance or soccer. she likes it she like dressing up and make-up. so just leave them alone unnnless U have done a pageant and actully no wat u r talkin bout.

Your sister is 2, to young to make decisions for herself. She doesn't have the ability yet to actually realize what she wants and doesn't want. It is wrong to doll her up and pressure her at an age wear she is still learning how to do walk and talk!

If they want to do it, that's fine, I guess, just don't force them to do it. And don't make them look like mini strippers when they are in pageants. Also, the difference between sports and pageants, for those who are saying they are the same, sports judge you on what you can PHYSICALLY do, while pageants judge you mostly on beauty, thus the term BEAUTY pageants. Yeah I know, there's also talent, pro-am, and things like that, but lets face it, beauty is mostly what matters in those things.

Instead of spending time in such shallow activities, why not do things with your little girl like teaching them how to swim, showing them nature, taking them on walks, learning about the world, geography, foreign countries, enrolling them in classes to learn another language, playing with clay, teaching them make so that they become proficient, reading to them, playing board games, teach them about other religions and cultures, teach culinary art skills, researching science, etc.

Pageants don't take up all time. Yes, those things are beneficial but pageants can be too. Also, when you get older pageants can be based on academic acheivements and can provide scholarships!

LOL , I homeschool . What you describe is my life. My daughter also does pageants, she is extremely proud of her glitz pics. My daughter also knows that she does not look like that in real life and for her its fun. My daughter also keeps her hair blonde to be like Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I will say that it has not hurt her at pageants though. She is also active at church and with many other activities. Don't make judgments on a few still photos.

i am a pageant mom and i dont "live" through my daughter we do practice a few hours a week does your child practice say football i thought so anyways pageants most days are natural not all the make up and hair anymore my daughter loves pageants and when she doesnt want to them anymore that fine! im tired of everyone putting us moms down and if you watched this documentry you would see these are toughed up photos!

Instead of turning little girls into porcelain dolls these moms coudl take up a hobby of collecting porcelain dolls or making them. Im sure the girls would want there moms to buy porcelain dolls insted of being made to look like one

I did try to post a link to said photo but they obviously don't allow that on here.
In the picture JoBenet is wearing an outfit that has a body shaped like a swimsuit, has a huge style head dree/neck dress as the vegas girls wear and it's covered in feathers. She is not wearing angel wings or anything shaped like angel wings. if you were to see the photo this would be most obvious.
She is wearing high heeled flamenco style shoes and also a feathered train that comes out from her outfit.

These children are exploited. They are made up, and wear revealing clothes, and their parents are teaching them, that they will be rewarded because of how they look.
They learn that to hide their actual looks and not be seen as they look naturally is the only way to to be adored, to be seen as special.
JonbBenet looked more like a show girl than an angel in the picture that has been mentioned on here.

I think your live in a fantasy INDIA....it s not rare but in fact the norm to place contacts in these children's fragile eyes, dye their hair, add extensions, give them fake tans and have them don skimpy swimwear. Go to a pageant tomorrow and tell me what you see. These children are exploited and if you dont see it then maybe your hair was overdyed or teased to the point of retardation. Someone needs to stand up for these children who otherwise have no voice. Feel free to bring it.

Yes they are. They just stilled the photos where they were bored to make it look like they were unhappy. Just watch Living Dolls or Little Beauties or Painted Babies and they are ALL extremely happy little girls.
