Guys, this isn't bagua agree on this. Two: MMA isn't the be all and end all, but neither is Bagua. An MMA partitioner would say that a bagua practitioner isn't rounded enough, and a bagua practitioner would say that an MMA practitioner needs more self balance. A Krav Maga practitioner would say shut the fuck up, bagua is useless, and if you grappled with some1 you get your head stomped. I love Bagua, I love brazillian Jiu-Jitsu, guys, just get over yourselves.
I saw that, and honestly that guy didnt know the true potential of kung fu, kung fu has ground fighting. If that guy was a true kung fu practitioner he would have never allowed gracie to take him down.
WTF IS THIS??? Definatlly Not BaGua Even The Beginners dont move like that....mabey i suppose a real practicioner of bagua is so in tune with the art they just refrain from fightin lol thats why there is no real combat footage
wow the guy in yellow has great slams for being so thin...maybe his on roids and the muscles are hidden inside his close...I mean the way he just tosses the other guy around its unbeliaveable...I heard of shuai chiao before, but I thought the throws were more I dont know "gentle" this is like watching a mix of judo and wrstling but with strikes minus submissions of course...
poised, and mentally relaxed. While, the dude in the black is clearly concerned about performing and gets whooped because of it. Not to mentioned the dude in the yellow is clearly more skilled in whatever style he is using.
The bagua shown is not Chinese baguazhang. Rather, it is the Palgwe school of Taekwondo. Palgwe is how Koreans pronounce "bagua." So, really, this video is shuaijiao + judo vs. TKD.
Shuai Jiao is chinese wrestling. Though judo is also wrestling, this video is chinese, and it is likely that there is no judo involved. Especially considering the hosts don't mention judo once.
i agree, thought a few of his movements looked like tkd but the rest of it was so different i just figured it was a coincidence, i guees this explains it eh. In my experience tkd is limited,(ive been studying it since i was 8) and i wish my mom had put me into a different martial art, she just chose it cause dojo was close to our house. Still, i learned a lot from tkd and it was a great and worthwhile experience its just not as efficient as other martial arts that i have fought against.
Clearly, the bagua guy has never trained his bague for effective combat. He didn't use any bagua's coiling movements...He's a shame to all internal martial artist.
the gracies probably would not use their stuff in a bar fight because: unless it were to save their lives, why would they rise to the occasion?
as far as lethal chokeholds being derived from ninjitsu... WHEN DID THEY EVER GET AROUND TO SHOWING THEIR SECRETS?!!
AREN'T THEY SUPPOSED TO BE AN ELITE ASSASSIN CLASS? how does anyone know about chokes when the ninja invented them? maybe they would've wanted to keep that one a secret, hunh?
ah, they both look "little" given their weight category what the hell! I'm not surprised the guy in yellow made sport of him; Shuia Jiao is the king of grappling styles. There is no grappling training like it, anywhere, anyone wishing to be a good grappler can't go wrong with Shuia Jiao, best wrestling style there is. Very efficient, and its complete.
I did not see ANY Bagua there. Bagua does not emphasize kicks. Cheng Tinghua was a shuai jiao player as well.
Moreover this was just a poorly selected match. You say takedowns versus striking but the wrestler was obviously also a more solid striker than that nervous little guy.
This dude is definitely not using BaguaZhang techniques. And if some people we're stuck on their diluted, americanized grappling "art" they would know that BaguaZhang isn't all about striking. I hate motherfuckers that think MMA is the say all/be all. Uncultured pieces of shit. Go back to middle america and hump your wrestling partners' leg.
@mcliston Ok, as an American, let me say...MMA is CRAP!!!!!!!! I totally agree, this guy is not using BaguaZhang in any way (I just finished learning the basics in my Shaolin class, but I have a lifetime ahead of me before I might perfect it). MMA is just a poor excuse of a fighting system :
@mcliston Wow, what disrespect. I compete bjj, but why is it that people from below and your art don't come into the UFC or something and use it in a practical manner, you know why? Because it only works against itself. BJJ, Greco and Muay Thai are proven in practical situations. Your art has not been. Be the one to do it and stop crying about how it is better..
@getsome1516 Bagua zhang and most other internal arts were devised for the army, and for warfare. The main purpose is to defend yourself from multiple attackers, provide as much damage to them as possible, using the least amount of effort required, because the fighting could go on for days. It's not beating your partner to a pulp with brute force. They're self defence, and few practitioners care about how the world sees the art in terms of tournaments and contests.
@getsome1516 "get some"......COCK in between your ass cheeks in that half guard....or no wait...have a guy "mount" you ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! you're gay
@mcliston swai jiao is cool...it's kinda like judo...but I couldn't agree more with you....there are a lot of ignorant people who do not understand Martial Arts AT ALL....and they use MMA as a standard to compare to practicality and real life situation....when the reality of the matter is that in a street situation there won't be a ref...you will most likely face multiple attackers....you won't have gloves...and you won't feel very good after wrestling around with someone on concrete
@mcliston and oh yea that guy is definitely not using Bagua...I study Chen Style Tai Chi on top of which I have studied Shotokan Karate San Shouand a bit of Kung Fu so I have both sides of the spectrum...internal and external...all Martial Arts are unique and effective it's all about picking an art that you are comfortable with and that you can utilize well...and believe me when I say no matter what art you know if you have the warrior spirit and know how to fight and use your art you will win
@mcliston My hearts in iching xing yi bagua tai chi I believe no matter what we practice we must respect each other. some just wernt blessed to know better.
this is not ba gua ,the pose in the beginning is similar but the rest of the combat he moves in chinese box stile, simile to sandha or kickboxing , bagua ir 1000 times more technical
This guy looks like he's using a weak knowledge of Yin Fu bagua. The style i practice is Cheng style, and incorporates the same throws that the shuai jiao practitioner uses.
And a high level bagua practitioner uses techniques that sport fighting doesn't really allow. i.e. groin strikes, throat strikes, bone breaking etc.
If a skilled bagua guy takes on someone with a linear style like muay thai, the bagua guy has a clear advantage.
So, in your style. School yard tactics like kicking someone in the crotch, and poking your fingers in their eyes is consider "high level". That's pretty sad. And that's also the same pathetic excuse I hear every time there is a video of a grappler beating a strikers ass. "oh, well. It doesn't count cause the striker couldn't kick him in the balls or claw his eyes out like a girl." Don't forget that if those rules were allowed the grappler could do it do.. What a weak excuse. Your art sucks.
What do Muay thai, boxing , and grappling arts like judo and jujitsu have in common. They have hard contact sparring. Granted there may be a hardcore bagua guy out there, but in general you kung fu LARPERS suck at sparring. You all do this no contact to the face bs. And a seasoned Muay Thai practitioner would OWN you. It wasn't until the chinese started training like the thai's that they actually started to beat them. Kung fu sucks. End of story.
I'm happy with my training, and it works for me. Cung Le is happy with his training too and uses it successfully. It all depends on the person.
To practice an art that is gloriously complex like bagua, it takes more time to instill the principals for fighting, but the end result is improvised precision and unparalleled deceptive circular footwork.
Oh, and btw my gym does traditional bagua, tai chi, and Hsing yi alongside western boxing, kickboxing and grappling. Come by if you're in NYC
You are apparently young in your learning, or not learning at all. I am a very seasoned practitioner of Muay Thai as well as Togakure-Ryu Ninjutsu. I am looking into going into Baguazhang. Contrary to what you may believe or think you see, true Baguazhang is a highly deadly art, and no art should be taken lightly, given the practitioner.
Nice attempt at a diss on me, but no dice. I've been doing this long enough to call a spade a spade. I've seen a few hardcore traditional martial arts guys, but they were out kicking ass and taking beatings, not doing kata and fucking around. And you only go to prove my point. You train in hard contact arts, you spar on a regular (guessing with the Muay thai training you listed) and you've cross trained to fill in gaps. The Bagua guy doesn't know grappling hence why he is getting owned..
Who said I was trying to insult anybody? I did not say this practitioner in particular. I do practice hard styles yes, I spar on a regular basis, as well as teach on one. What I said was in regards to the art itself not the practitioner, the reason not much contact is allowed is because in full contact, many actions would cause serious trauma or death, especially with grapples. This was not an art employed by many temple guards for no reason at all.
What are you talking about? The closest we have to a street fight is the UFC, and in brazil they had Vale Tudo and that show allowed everything except fingers to the eyes. They even allowed for groin striking. And guess what? No deaths. It can happen, but you traditional martial arts guys play that shit up waay too much. Grappling is more dangerous in my opinion. Strangling someone or twisting limbs till they snap is more deadly than a punch, but then again I'm not as "seasoned" as you claim 2be
You need to recollect your thoughts. Watch the power behind some Muay Thai strikes and possibly study up on Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu. Muay Thai was the military combat form for Thailand. Military martial arts are meant to incapacitate and kill, the reason its not always happening in Muay Thai fights is that they have built up resistance to blows. Also, no knuckle concentrated shots to the temple. Ninjutusu is taught to Marine Force Recon, Rangers, and SEALS, need I say more?
Sorry for replying so late on this. But, ninjitsu! Are you fucking kidding me. I can't believe you even brought up that larping crap. Muay thai I can respect but not that shit. And Ninjitsu is not taught you marine force or seals. Seals has no specific program, its up to each individual team to seek instruction. And the myth of the death touch, are you smoking crack? A choke hold is more able to kill someone than a punch and that is a fact. You've been watching too many kungfu movies.
Honestly...I had a bit of respect for your knowledge until now. But discrediting an art that has been proven to be one of the most effective arts out there ever since feudal japan makes me think you're quite possibly retarded on this subject. There are punches that kill in one blow, a choke takes time. I see no advantage there. Apparently you know absolutely nothing of our special forces. My sensei IS ex-SEAL. Study up, you've proven your ignorance to everyone.
You sensei is ex seal, I'm sure he'll have no problem producing his DD214 and showing you his rank and rate when he left. Then I'll believe if, until then BULLSHIT. Seals aren't taught ninjitsu or any other martial art during training. The seal teams themselves go out and learn. It all stemmed from the Navy getting screwed over by the combato system and finding out that system was full of crap. Kinda like ninjitsu.
"An art that has been proven.." Proven by who? Any ninja that has stepped in a cage or ring has had their ass handed to them. Just because its old doesn't mean it works today. Does that mean our soldiers should use arrows cause they were proven to work 100's of years ago? The killer punch is a myth. Years ago someone got a concussion and died or was knocked unconscious and hit their head and died. And tada the myth was born. And idiots like you still believe it. Chokes work faster and easier.
You aren't even worth my time anymore. There's no sense in arguing with some 3rd grader who thinks they know everything about martial arts whilst bashing one of the greatest ever known. Read up on stuff, maybe get in a real fight or two yourself or something. It might do you well to get reality beat into your fantasy of a fighting world. UFC is not street fighting, and it doesn't really work as such.
Choke holds do not come from ninjitsu . You LARPING fuck! I'm not even getting into the argument of what style predates what. Choke holds have been in grappling since Pankration and that was WAAAAAAAAAY before your ninjitsu. The way you talk I doubt you've even been in a slap fight let alone a real one. Keep believing everything your sensei tells you. One day you'll get your ass beat and wake up to the truth.
Yeah, if it worked 500 years ago in empty handed duels or a knife fight, it works today. That's why Jigoro Kano removed so much from jujutsu when he created judo - the old shit was too dangerous, and jujutsu became an anachronism in a peaceful time. You diss old martial arts but then defend muay thai? I don't think you know what "traditional" martial arts are. Koryu jujutsu and ninjutsu were the MMA of their day - what worked, stayed. Everything else was left with the dead on the battlefield.
Oh, and a choke takes 6-10 seconds to render someone unconscious when slapped on. If you weren't a retard you'd know that from experience. You can't use "tHe dEaDly" punch on someone cause of something called deflection. Your opponents head moves to the side or their body moves and the force is reduced. Death strike=Myth. Only LARPING martial artists like yourself still believe in that crap. And blind faith is a sure sign of low intelligence. Do me a favor and don't breed more idiots like you.
You are an idiot. I just have to say it. You know absolutely NOTHING about what you harp on. 1. the death punch is delivered in the chest not he head. 2. A standard Muay Thai punch k0's in 1 second if delivered properly. 3. Almost all lethal chokeholds ARE DERIVED FROM NINJUTSU. 4. No SEAL can 'show you their credentials' its classified information. 5. The opponents head moving to one side so fast PRODUCES UNCONSCIOUSNESS.
ANYONE discharged from the military has a DD214 discharge paper that will show you his rank and rate. He has a rank, such as petty officer, officer or chief and it will tech you if his rate was medic or what not. If you were in the military you would know this. And if you've ever fought before you'd know "t3h d34dly" crap you speak of doesn't work. But, you're just a keyboard warrior that doesn't know shit.
Well I have never seen someone get hit to the back of the head with elbow or at the top of the head. I have not seen anyone try to rip someones testicles off or someone bite the jugulars off or dislocate a knee with a strike or bite a piece of the biceo to release a hold! Nop have not seen that in the sporty events such as UFC or Vale Tudo!
Obviously you've never watch Valet Tudo or the Early UFC's you fucking retard. Anything went in vale tudo except biting and eyes. Groin shots were allowed, back of the head, spine shots, and kicking a downed man were allowed. Wanderli Silva , and Gary Goodridge were some of the big names to fight in Vale Tudo. And its harder to "dislocate" a knee with a strike than you think buddy boy. Otherwise it would happen all the time in Muay thai or any other striking match. U suck and ur kung fu sucks.
I know about the first UFC's and Vale tudo. I currently train with fighters from that era. You think that is the way to fight? Than you ahve no idea what a real fight is! They don't last more than 5 seconds! It only takes 15 pounds to dislocate a knee! Obviously you don't know about the no rules matches in asia! Nope, not in Youtube. You know how many people a year die in those matches?
"The matches in Asia" are you retarded? You know what jackass, instead of living in you Jean Claude Van Damme encrusted dream land how about you come back to reality for a bit. Where's the proof of these "matches"? Is there any proof besides what your retarded sensei has said to you? I doubt it.
You remind me of these so call grandmaster who never trained shit and all he did was watch videos on youtube and read books but never bother actually trying a style or even challenging someone from that style. Rickson Gracie, Bas Rutten, Fedor Emelianenko are consider the best SPORTS fighters of all time and they have said they would never grapple anyone on the street or bar!! That would be the stupidest thing to do!Hahahaha! Sorry you could not find real fights on YouTube!Hahahahha!
Plenty of real fights on youtube, plenty of grappling going on. I've grappled in ALL of the fights I've been in. Sorry chief. Hate to burst your bubble, but life doesn't look like a kung fu movie.
HAHAHAHAHHA! Sorry that you think all this is real fights!!! Well, I have never seen a torn jugular vein on you tube or someones fingers ripping part of someone's liver out!! hahahahahaha! And this is before pulling a knife out!!
I would like to see you put someone on your guard in a real fight!! Hahahahaha!!Even Rickson said he would never do something stupid like that on the street or bar!! Yes he did it on the beach because he had his family around but he would never do it for real! That is why he said he has his elbows, fingers and fists!!!
Someones fingers ripping out a liver, doesn't work, sorry. Only in your dreams kungfu boy. If you only think a real fight is a fight to the death then I'm sorry, you should wake up to the real world. The most you'll ever get into is a drunken scrap. But considering who I'm talking to here I bet you've got to have 6 beers before you even get the courage to slap someone , let alone fight them. I hate keyboard warriors like you. Gutless worm, go back to your jackie chan films.
Well pretty boy for one is obvious you only talk about what you with your nintendo and what you see on Youtube.I don't drink and fighting is for kids! What is your real world?
Aye, Not only does he not know Grappling nor any holds, but it appears he hasn't trained quite enough in Bagua. Also, it seems like he didn't study the Opponent's Style enough, or learn about it in any way, hence why he failed.
Bagua isn't made to be a Close contact/Grapping Art, so going against someone who does grapple is a bit tough for Baguazhang.
actually, Bagua does have methods dealing with grappling and joint manipulation. The problem is people hear Baguazhang (Bagua Palm) and they recognize its striking and not the subtle nuances in its movements that can effectively floor the opponent without actually striking them.
he's not sloppy, he's horrendous... there might as well have been a bum in his place, his stances and attacks are wrong... he doesn't even try to defend except in the beginning, he's on the attack most of the time - which is why i think he gets taken down so easily.
Yet another example of a striker who can't grapple vs. a grappler who can strike. Is this debate even worth having anymore. Grappler wins. 9 times out of 10 the grappler wins. Why or why must we argue about it anymore. If you wanna fight a grappler then learn to defend the takedown!!! Its that simple.
I think no matter what art you use, whether its stand up or grappling, you will be beaten if you are outnumbered. Stand up fighting doesn't give you any advantage against multiple opponents.
That's the same ol' myth people use over and over again to cover up for the fact that they suck on the ground. I'm sorry, but where do you live? Is it covered in glass, razor blades and barbed wire everywhere? Seriously, grow up. One of these days you'll go for a throw, you'll screw up and get smashed to the ground with the guy on top of you, then you'll wish you knew ground fighting. Oh and the multiple attacker thing, yeah that applies to striking too. I hate morons like you. Jeez
Firstly, I'm not going to say groundfighting is worthless. Just every fight starts standing up. Also, it's easier to use striking against multiple attackers than groundfighting. As soon as you're on the ground, you have everyone but the one guy you have kicking you and you're more or less defenseless; not so when you're striking. Besides, something like bagua is made for bodyguards and is supposed to be useful against up to eight opponents.
Obviously you don't watch a lot of fights, and or you've never fought before. Yes, every fight starts standing but at some point it goes to a clinch. Now that could mean standing grappling, throws, knees or like most fights a topple onto the ground. Your an idiot. And I don't give a shit what your art is "suppose" to do. Show some proof or shut up and go home. Look up ANY fight on youtube and when you see 3 on 1 you still see the guy who's alone getting his ass kicked. Striking aint all that.
I have fought, actually, and that's why I know groundfighting is useful. I'm simply saying it's not the end-all be-all you say it is. You don't have to be a jackass about it. Also, I'm saying that the art is designed for fighting up to eight at once, not that anyone who trains it can do that. That said, there are less than 100 practitioners of some styles of bagua, so it's not surprising that you won't find someone on YouTube using it in a fight.
This is an excellent demonstration. If you would like to know more you can visit my web site, which is located on my page. While your there please feel free to suscribe me. I would be glad to help you with anything bagua related you are having trouble with.
I found wushu & tai chi (instructional video) instant downloads for 5.00 that usualy cost 13 to 99 bucks as mail order vcd`s. Taught by the best modern chinese masters.
there is no bagua in the whole video. the grappling guy looks more like a bagua fighter then his opponent. it looks like hes doing some jeet kun do with all that hopping. to all the people tht said it was bagua because of the circle walking youre wrong watch any fight . youll never see 2 people fight in a straight line. Theres no trace of any hand work of bagua. who ever herd of style with grey belt. it must be a low rank if youve only been traing for years

yes, yes, sure) gray, purple, aqua whatever colour it is the video is not bagua. again, compare it to some vids over youtube, of cource u can remain a gray belt and continue jumping for ur joy. Good luck.
Bagua and Pakua is the same. Chinese people do not make difference between p and b as well as between k and g (something like with the danes). Bagua means having low center of gravity and knowing some principles common for many internal styles like fullness and emptiness also specific steps and many more things but not jumping or wrestling ) I don't know what you imagine by saying bagua/paqua but you may search over youtube for real bagua clips.
Thanks for the usless info. Im a grey belt in Pa Kua, and we cover the essentials of Sky earth and man. Ground fighting, stand up, and leaping strikes. The man in Yellow is setting a perfect example of Circular fighting, which Pa Kua also represents. Im not a master, but I've been a student for 2 years. And for what I've learned through Pa Kau, I know ther's a lot of other ways to spell it. But that once you've thought you have mastered a subject, you barley scratch the surface.
this is not either art mentioned, its a modern sanshou or sanda type maybe. Those throws are used in shuai jiao, but what he is doing is not traditional shuai jiao and there is no bagua to be seem, which also uses throws, btw.
Your point is? My own teachers name appears on the tomb of the founder; It is indeed traditional, but what you see in this video does NOT represent Bagua by any means, except perhaps, poorly. Also, Chinese Bagua has its traditional practitioners as well as the modern wushu dance practitioners.
Shuau jiao is good stuff... but that other guy is definitely NOT doing Bagau, or Xingyi, or anything really other than bouncing around and attacking wildly.
it just proves that a mix of grappling and taunting strikes is the more superoir fighting technique, Thai/kick boxing is a perfect example of this in modern day.
i think we all need to bare in mind this was in 1983, only a few years after combat kung fu was legalized. the fighters were still learning to apply their art
Shuaijiao guy is ruling this match, but it's not saying much. Bagua is also a lot about takedowns, and takedown defence is a necessary skill, especially in CMA competitions. Shuaijiao is awesome, as all wrestling styles are, and I look forward to training in it soon, in Taibei.
The kicks and the punches are crap, and that bouncing around is purely for sport. Any real art is meant to end the fight very quickly. This is sparring. Better yet, this is bad dancing.
That supposedly bagua guy really seems to be doing kick boxing rather than BaguaZhang! It's sad to even think someone dared calle what he did BaguaZhang!
how do some people not believe the fighter in black is practicing ba gua? maybe his fighting principles do not completely follow ba gua technique, but doesn't the text say ba gua rai before they fight?
What BaGua fighter? ... he looks like a Jeet Kune Do guy who doesnt know any JKD principles. He soley attacked with his posterior. No art does that as the primary attack. He appears to be a good student who has practicing for a total of 3 months.
I know a guy that is a Bagua fighter that walks the circle in combat and is very effective. This is a classice example of a practicioner not practicing his art.
It should look like something! My God that was..that was...*sigh* Let's just say that was a catalouge of Shuai Jiao techniqes, becuase every time he dropped the fake ass bagua dude, it was something new and impressive! Kudos to him!
exaclty, practice looks all pretty, but cant be done like that in fight. they all look the same when it comes to any real hitting with another opponent
well the guy in black does basic stances. but doesnt walk the circle or any such thing. i suspect that he learned a modified style that is greaty mixed with hsing-i and just has other random techniques randomly thrown in there. but he doesnt seem very skilled
this is like a public attempt to discredit the internal arts. maybe these guys NOT knowing is better.....

Real kung fu practitioners do not attend pointless pissing contests... And they most definitely don't bounce around like some jackass karate guy.

hmm, perhaps if he tried to concentrate on bagua's ability to flank the opponent more, perhaps it would have been a better fight

Especially considering the hosts don't mention judo once.

as far as lethal chokeholds being derived from ninjitsu...

You say takedowns versus striking but the wrestler was obviously also a more solid striker than that nervous little guy.
jansondaybreak 3 years ago
This dude is definitely not using BaguaZhang techniques. And if some people we're stuck on their diluted, americanized grappling "art" they would know that BaguaZhang isn't all about striking. I hate motherfuckers that think MMA is the say all/be all. Uncultured pieces of shit. Go back to middle america and hump your wrestling partners' leg.
mcliston 3 years ago 17
@mcliston Ok, as an American, let me say...MMA is CRAP!!!!!!!! I totally agree, this guy is not using BaguaZhang in any way (I just finished learning the basics in my Shaolin class, but I have a lifetime ahead of me before I might perfect it). MMA is just a poor excuse of a fighting system :
Hope you have a great day!
cybervore 1 year ago
@mcliston Wow, what disrespect. I compete bjj, but why is it that people from below and your art don't come into the UFC or something and use it in a practical manner, you know why? Because it only works against itself. BJJ, Greco and Muay Thai are proven in practical situations. Your art has not been. Be the one to do it and stop crying about how it is better..
getsome1516 1 year ago
@getsome1516 Bagua zhang and most other internal arts were devised for the army, and for warfare. The main purpose is to defend yourself from multiple attackers, provide as much damage to them as possible, using the least amount of effort required, because the fighting could go on for days. It's not beating your partner to a pulp with brute force. They're self defence, and few practitioners care about how the world sees the art in terms of tournaments and contests.

@mcliston swai jiao is cool...it's kinda like judo...but I couldn't agree more with you....there are a lot of ignorant people who do not understand Martial Arts AT ALL....and they use MMA as a standard to compare to practicality and real life situation....when the reality of the matter is that in a street situation there won't be a ref...you will most likely face multiple attackers....you won't have gloves...and you won't feel very good after wrestling around with someone on concrete
sasat1986 1 year ago
@mcliston and oh yea that guy is definitely not using Bagua...I study Chen Style Tai Chi on top of which I have studied Shotokan Karate San Shouand a bit of Kung Fu so I have both sides of the spectrum...internal and external...all Martial Arts are unique and effective it's all about picking an art that you are comfortable with and that you can utilize well...and believe me when I say no matter what art you know if you have the warrior spirit and know how to fight and use your art you will win

kosovo83 3 years ago
Yes, that is bagua. A wonderfully useless martial art. Time would've been better spent at a muay thai gym for this poor bastard.
macaddict1980 3 years ago
wonderfully useless... strong words.
If a skilled bagua guy takes on someone with a linear style like muay thai, the bagua guy has a clear advantage.
kosovo83 3 years ago
So, in your style. School yard tactics like kicking someone in the crotch, and poking your fingers in their eyes is consider "high level". That's pretty sad. And that's also the same pathetic excuse I hear every time there is a video of a grappler beating a strikers ass. "oh, well. It doesn't count cause the striker couldn't kick him in the balls or claw his eyes out like a girl." Don't forget that if those rules were allowed the grappler could do it do.. What a weak excuse. Your art sucks.
macaddict1980 3 years ago
What do Muay thai, boxing , and grappling arts like judo and jujitsu have in common. They have hard contact sparring. Granted there may be a hardcore bagua guy out there, but in general you kung fu LARPERS suck at sparring. You all do this no contact to the face bs. And a seasoned Muay Thai practitioner would OWN you. It wasn't until the chinese started training like the thai's that they actually started to beat them. Kung fu sucks. End of story.
macaddict1980 3 years ago
I'm happy with my training, and it works for me. Cung Le is happy with his training too and uses it successfully. It all depends on the person.
To practice an art that is gloriously complex like bagua, it takes more time to instill the principals for fighting, but the end result is improvised precision and unparalleled deceptive circular footwork.
Oh, and btw my gym does traditional bagua, tai chi, and Hsing yi alongside western boxing, kickboxing and grappling. Come by if you're in NYC
kosovo83 3 years ago
You are apparently young in your learning, or not learning at all. I am a very seasoned practitioner of Muay Thai as well as Togakure-Ryu Ninjutsu. I am looking into going into Baguazhang. Contrary to what you may believe or think you see, true Baguazhang is a highly deadly art, and no art should be taken lightly, given the practitioner.
ramarrevan 2 years ago 2
Nice attempt at a diss on me, but no dice. I've been doing this long enough to call a spade a spade. I've seen a few hardcore traditional martial arts guys, but they were out kicking ass and taking beatings, not doing kata and fucking around. And you only go to prove my point. You train in hard contact arts, you spar on a regular (guessing with the Muay thai training you listed) and you've cross trained to fill in gaps. The Bagua guy doesn't know grappling hence why he is getting owned..
macaddict1980 2 years ago
Who said I was trying to insult anybody? I did not say this practitioner in particular. I do practice hard styles yes, I spar on a regular basis, as well as teach on one. What I said was in regards to the art itself not the practitioner, the reason not much contact is allowed is because in full contact, many actions would cause serious trauma or death, especially with grapples. This was not an art employed by many temple guards for no reason at all.
ramarrevan 2 years ago
What are you talking about? The closest we have to a street fight is the UFC, and in brazil they had Vale Tudo and that show allowed everything except fingers to the eyes. They even allowed for groin striking. And guess what? No deaths. It can happen, but you traditional martial arts guys play that shit up waay too much. Grappling is more dangerous in my opinion. Strangling someone or twisting limbs till they snap is more deadly than a punch, but then again I'm not as "seasoned" as you claim 2be
macaddict1980 2 years ago
You need to recollect your thoughts. Watch the power behind some Muay Thai strikes and possibly study up on Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu. Muay Thai was the military combat form for Thailand. Military martial arts are meant to incapacitate and kill, the reason its not always happening in Muay Thai fights is that they have built up resistance to blows. Also, no knuckle concentrated shots to the temple. Ninjutusu is taught to Marine Force Recon, Rangers, and SEALS, need I say more?
ramarrevan 2 years ago
Sorry for replying so late on this. But, ninjitsu! Are you fucking kidding me. I can't believe you even brought up that larping crap. Muay thai I can respect but not that shit. And Ninjitsu is not taught you marine force or seals. Seals has no specific program, its up to each individual team to seek instruction. And the myth of the death touch, are you smoking crack? A choke hold is more able to kill someone than a punch and that is a fact. You've been watching too many kungfu movies.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
Honestly...I had a bit of respect for your knowledge until now. But discrediting an art that has been proven to be one of the most effective arts out there ever since feudal japan makes me think you're quite possibly retarded on this subject. There are punches that kill in one blow, a choke takes time. I see no advantage there. Apparently you know absolutely nothing of our special forces. My sensei IS ex-SEAL. Study up, you've proven your ignorance to everyone.
ramarrevan 2 years ago
You sensei is ex seal, I'm sure he'll have no problem producing his DD214 and showing you his rank and rate when he left. Then I'll believe if, until then BULLSHIT. Seals aren't taught ninjitsu or any other martial art during training. The seal teams themselves go out and learn. It all stemmed from the Navy getting screwed over by the combato system and finding out that system was full of crap. Kinda like ninjitsu.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
"An art that has been proven.." Proven by who? Any ninja that has stepped in a cage or ring has had their ass handed to them. Just because its old doesn't mean it works today. Does that mean our soldiers should use arrows cause they were proven to work 100's of years ago? The killer punch is a myth. Years ago someone got a concussion and died or was knocked unconscious and hit their head and died. And tada the myth was born. And idiots like you still believe it. Chokes work faster and easier.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
You aren't even worth my time anymore. There's no sense in arguing with some 3rd grader who thinks they know everything about martial arts whilst bashing one of the greatest ever known. Read up on stuff, maybe get in a real fight or two yourself or something. It might do you well to get reality beat into your fantasy of a fighting world. UFC is not street fighting, and it doesn't really work as such.
ramarrevan 2 years ago
Choke holds do not come from ninjitsu . You LARPING fuck! I'm not even getting into the argument of what style predates what. Choke holds have been in grappling since Pankration and that was WAAAAAAAAAY before your ninjitsu. The way you talk I doubt you've even been in a slap fight let alone a real one. Keep believing everything your sensei tells you. One day you'll get your ass beat and wake up to the truth.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
Yeah, if it worked 500 years ago in empty handed duels or a knife fight, it works today. That's why Jigoro Kano removed so much from jujutsu when he created judo - the old shit was too dangerous, and jujutsu became an anachronism in a peaceful time. You diss old martial arts but then defend muay thai? I don't think you know what "traditional" martial arts are. Koryu jujutsu and ninjutsu were the MMA of their day - what worked, stayed. Everything else was left with the dead on the battlefield.
pacificimporters 2 years ago
Oh, and a choke takes 6-10 seconds to render someone unconscious when slapped on. If you weren't a retard you'd know that from experience. You can't use "tHe dEaDly" punch on someone cause of something called deflection. Your opponents head moves to the side or their body moves and the force is reduced. Death strike=Myth. Only LARPING martial artists like yourself still believe in that crap. And blind faith is a sure sign of low intelligence. Do me a favor and don't breed more idiots like you.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
You are an idiot. I just have to say it. You know absolutely NOTHING about what you harp on. 1. the death punch is delivered in the chest not he head. 2. A standard Muay Thai punch k0's in 1 second if delivered properly. 3. Almost all lethal chokeholds ARE DERIVED FROM NINJUTSU. 4. No SEAL can 'show you their credentials' its classified information. 5. The opponents head moving to one side so fast PRODUCES UNCONSCIOUSNESS.
ramarrevan 2 years ago
ANYONE discharged from the military has a DD214 discharge paper that will show you his rank and rate. He has a rank, such as petty officer, officer or chief and it will tech you if his rate was medic or what not. If you were in the military you would know this. And if you've ever fought before you'd know "t3h d34dly" crap you speak of doesn't work. But, you're just a keyboard warrior that doesn't know shit.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
Well I have never seen someone get hit to the back of the head with elbow or at the top of the head. I have not seen anyone try to rip someones testicles off or someone bite the jugulars off or dislocate a knee with a strike or bite a piece of the biceo to release a hold! Nop have not seen that in the sporty events such as UFC or Vale Tudo!
silatk 2 years ago
Bagua is a nice and powerful style if taught in an adequate manner. Very few teachers can do that now days!
silatk 2 years ago
Obviously you've never watch Valet Tudo or the Early UFC's you fucking retard. Anything went in vale tudo except biting and eyes. Groin shots were allowed, back of the head, spine shots, and kicking a downed man were allowed. Wanderli Silva , and Gary Goodridge were some of the big names to fight in Vale Tudo. And its harder to "dislocate" a knee with a strike than you think buddy boy. Otherwise it would happen all the time in Muay thai or any other striking match. U suck and ur kung fu sucks.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
I know about the first UFC's and Vale tudo. I currently train with fighters from that era. You think that is the way to fight? Than you ahve no idea what a real fight is! They don't last more than 5 seconds! It only takes 15 pounds to dislocate a knee! Obviously you don't know about the no rules matches in asia! Nope, not in Youtube. You know how many people a year die in those matches?
silatk 2 years ago
"The matches in Asia" are you retarded? You know what jackass, instead of living in you Jean Claude Van Damme encrusted dream land how about you come back to reality for a bit. Where's the proof of these "matches"? Is there any proof besides what your retarded sensei has said to you? I doubt it.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
You remind me of these so call grandmaster who never trained shit and all he did was watch videos on youtube and read books but never bother actually trying a style or even challenging someone from that style. Rickson Gracie, Bas Rutten, Fedor Emelianenko are consider the best SPORTS fighters of all time and they have said they would never grapple anyone on the street or bar!! That would be the stupidest thing to do!Hahahaha! Sorry you could not find real fights on YouTube!Hahahahha!
silatk 2 years ago

silatk 2 years ago
I would like to see you put someone on your guard in a real fight!! Hahahahaha!!Even Rickson said he would never do something stupid like that on the street or bar!! Yes he did it on the beach because he had his family around but he would never do it for real! That is why he said he has his elbows, fingers and fists!!!
silatk 2 years ago
Someones fingers ripping out a liver, doesn't work, sorry. Only in your dreams kungfu boy. If you only think a real fight is a fight to the death then I'm sorry, you should wake up to the real world. The most you'll ever get into is a drunken scrap. But considering who I'm talking to here I bet you've got to have 6 beers before you even get the courage to slap someone , let alone fight them. I hate keyboard warriors like you. Gutless worm, go back to your jackie chan films.
macaddict1980 2 years ago
Well pretty boy for one is obvious you only talk about what you with your nintendo and what you see on Youtube.I don't drink and fighting is for kids! What is your real world?
silatk 2 years ago 2
Aye, Not only does he not know Grappling nor any holds, but it appears he hasn't trained quite enough in Bagua. Also, it seems like he didn't study the Opponent's Style enough, or learn about it in any way, hence why he failed.
Bagua isn't made to be a Close contact/Grapping Art, so going against someone who does grapple is a bit tough for Baguazhang.
But your right.
Energy558 2 years ago
actually, Bagua does have methods dealing with grappling and joint manipulation. The problem is people hear Baguazhang (Bagua Palm) and they recognize its striking and not the subtle nuances in its movements that can effectively floor the opponent without actually striking them.

Its that simple.
macaddict1980 3 years ago
Grappling is great in a regulated one-on-one contest on a padded floor, but that's a pretty narrow application.
biffodio 3 years ago
I think no matter what art you use, whether its stand up or grappling, you will be beaten if you are outnumbered. Stand up fighting doesn't give you any advantage against multiple opponents.
Dmasterman 3 years ago
Grappling does not apply when the ground is hard or sharp and you are facing multiple opponents.
DonniiV 3 years ago
That's the same ol' myth people use over and over again to cover up for the fact that they suck on the ground. I'm sorry, but where do you live? Is it covered in glass, razor blades and barbed wire everywhere? Seriously, grow up. One of these days you'll go for a throw, you'll screw up and get smashed to the ground with the guy on top of you, then you'll wish you knew ground fighting. Oh and the multiple attacker thing, yeah that applies to striking too. I hate morons like you. Jeez
macaddict1980 3 years ago
Firstly, I'm not going to say groundfighting is worthless. Just every fight starts standing up. Also, it's easier to use striking against multiple attackers than groundfighting. As soon as you're on the ground, you have everyone but the one guy you have kicking you and you're more or less defenseless; not so when you're striking. Besides, something like bagua is made for bodyguards and is supposed to be useful against up to eight opponents.
goshou 3 years ago
Obviously you don't watch a lot of fights, and or you've never fought before. Yes, every fight starts standing but at some point it goes to a clinch. Now that could mean standing grappling, throws, knees or like most fights a topple onto the ground. Your an idiot. And I don't give a shit what your art is "suppose" to do. Show some proof or shut up and go home. Look up ANY fight on youtube and when you see 3 on 1 you still see the guy who's alone getting his ass kicked. Striking aint all that.
macaddict1980 3 years ago
I have fought, actually, and that's why I know groundfighting is useful. I'm simply saying it's not the end-all be-all you say it is. You don't have to be a jackass about it. Also, I'm saying that the art is designed for fighting up to eight at once, not that anyone who trains it can do that. That said, there are less than 100 practitioners of some styles of bagua, so it's not surprising that you won't find someone on YouTube using it in a fight.
I recommend stepping back and chilling out, mate

Bagua and Pakua is the same. Chinese people do not make difference between p and b as well as between k and g (something like with the danes). Bagua means having low center of gravity and knowing some principles common for many internal styles like fullness and emptiness also specific steps and many more things but not jumping or wrestling ) I don't know what you imagine by saying bagua/paqua but you may search over youtube for real bagua clips.
JipVanDerBeren 3 years ago
Thanks for the usless info. Im a grey belt in Pa Kua, and we cover the essentials of Sky earth and man. Ground fighting, stand up, and leaping strikes. The man in Yellow is setting a perfect example of Circular fighting, which Pa Kua also represents. Im not a master, but I've been a student for 2 years. And for what I've learned through Pa Kau, I know ther's a lot of other ways to spell it. But that once you've thought you have mastered a subject, you barley scratch the surface.

I know a guy that is a Bagua fighter that walks the circle in combat and is very effective. This is a classice example of a practicioner not practicing his art.

Fighting doesn't look pretty like forms.

exaclty, practice looks all pretty, but cant be done like that in fight. they all look the same when it comes to any real hitting with another opponent

well the guy in black does basic stances. but doesnt walk the circle or any such thing. i suspect that he learned a modified style that is greaty mixed with hsing-i and just has other random techniques randomly thrown in there. but he doesnt seem very skilled

that does not look like any Baguazhang I've ever studied.....what the heck is he doing? I see no principles of even basic Baguazhang.

the bagua fighter doesnt follow traditional bagua. but does use the same basic principles and got some really good throws in.
