Its hard to imagine that back when Metroid was first released backtracking was a new and novel concept and now it is almost universally loathed. How gaming has changed in the 20 plus years since.
We miss you Gunpei. You know, I wonder what he would say if he were still alive seeing as how Nintendo's newest "3D" system is being pegged as a failure not unlike his failure they shamed him and humiliated him over despite being the man that turned the company around when people stopped buying their playing cards and toys.
Think i played this when i was six. STILL, when watching this after more than 20 years, i still remember certain maps/monsters/shortcuts. Pretty sick!
@ swordo21 Nes/Famicom have probably the largest in quantity and quality game library ever. There are really masterpieces of gaming developed for Nes/Famicom. Like the legendary Nekketsu Kunio Kun series of games im a big fan of. Never seen games as good as those, in any other console, old or new.
Sitting here listening to the ESCAPE theme is the first tim i ever realized how closely it resembles Kid Icarus' overworld music.... wonder if thats in the list?
Hey does anyone have a fusion powered Delorean time machine that I can use so I can go back to 1985 and relive the next 10 years of my life in what was arguably the greatest period in video game history???
Hey garu, not to take anything away from what you do, because I, absolutely, LOVE, this stuff, but I didn't here the them music from Ridley's lair or did I miss it someplace?
Awesome 8 bit graphics, beastly main character, surprise ending, and an epic soundtrack to boot, Metroid is and will forever be the greatest scifi robot lazer sidescroll alien surprise end videogame.
I first played the game back in 1989. It was a stunning masterpiece in those days and compared to many modern games it surprises how great the game still is after all those years.
This was a pretty great adventure game as I remember it, back in the day and the whole fun of it was trying to figure out where to go and all the hidden areas/secrets because all of them gave you bonus missles/energy tanks/etc to defeat the various zones and various bosses (to complete the bridge to get to the metroid mother brain so you could die over and over again to floating cheerios with knockback (that would knock you off the tiny platform you need to stand on to kill mother brain)
TBH I think the only reason the music of this game is EVER talked about is because of Kraid's theme being SO good and the game overall being SO good and such an experience. That theme is so simple but creepy and it's a great example of a theme that really enhanced the atmosphere of that game.
I've never beaten Metroid, I didn't own it though, a neighbor did and he let me borrow it. I love it but 9 time out of 10 I have no clue where I am going or where to go...now that I got it on virtual console I'm dedicating myself to beating it finally.

For those who don't know Hip Tanaka's work, he created music for this game along with Kid Icarus, Dr. Mario, Super Mario Land, Wrecking Crew, Balloon Fight and Mother aka Earthbound Zero. He also created everything in the original DK arcade game, he wrote the sound effects, music and he even setup the amplifers in the DK arcade machines!
every song in this game is great. i really like that chord progression at 3:00-3:04. sounds great on a piano. of course kraid's layer is one of the most awesome things composed. lots of versions of that track on youtube but the best is the original. nothing tops the ambience of those cold frigid synths
when they started phasing out the nes the titles were just starting to get sophisticated. i mean, look at the difference between super mario bros. and kirby's adventure. huge!
@Snyper009 I'm with ya! I think it's AWESOME that you can buy these games again and download them to the Wii. It saved me from trying to find an NES Console.
Metroid = LEGENDARY! NES GREATEST video game console EVER!
@Snyper009 I like the idea of making new 8 and 16 bit games with current hardware. That means all the power and memory we have today can be used to make longer, more involving games. I don't care how pretty the damn thing is; just make it fun!
Kraid's Lair...yeah it's pretty much the best song in a game with amazing music. What I love about Metroid is that all of the musical tracks are based on atmosphere, but still have structure to them.
i like the metroid series and i got notice well i looked in the internet that in august 24# is going to be another game of metroid and the name is metroid prime trilogy only for wii that´s so cool.

Yes to Kraid's theme - awesome stuff. Not the hardest of bosses, but definitely one of the coolest
The Japanese version had better music, though, except for the escape theme. Half of it got cut out, maybe because it sounded too much like Kid Icarus music...
the music in this game is so groundbreaking in my opinion. each metroid game actually is really good at melding its tracks with the atmosphere of the level. btw metroid prime 1 end credits is my favorite post Y2K vg music track and right behind is Tallon IV overworld theme #1 also from metroid prime. (which is the main metroid theme).

Subjects that you want people to stay out of are usually subjects u don't post about on youtube.
SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES USE FOR WHAT /WE IN THE STATES/ CALL "BAKINI"
He is.
allrequiredfields, it isn't necessary to criticize someone harshly over a spelling mistake. And just because it's not slang where you're from, doesn't mean it is elsewhere.
miitube, the dictionary is your friend. (Not to criticize, but it's a useful resource.)
Phonetically, it is still "bikini". "Bakini" would be a distorted pronunciation.
To: BeefBoullionare. JUSTINBAILEY is not a person at all. "BAILEY" IS A TERM SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES USE FOR WHAT WE IN THE STATES CALL "BAKINI". So, the password is actually - Just In Bailey - as in, just in bakini. Make sense?
dumbass... he/she meant bikini you retard. everybody isn´t from america or england and in many countries english isn´t even teached so shut the FUCK up
And by the way garudoh, thanks for putting together such an awesome collection of history's greatest game tunes. Sorry for clogging the comment box with so much obsessive rambling. Thanks to anyone who actually read it all (not likely). What can I say? I love great games, great music, great YouTube projects, and writing comments! This concludes another episode of "BeefBoullionaire's Krappy YouTube Komments"!
It gets me to wondering... Who is Justin Bailey? I mean, I know that the JB code has been proven to be a naturally occurring password, and not deliberately programmed into the game like NARPASWORD. But still, the person who first discovered it must have had some reason for trying that particular name. Ether that person was Justin himself, or they knew someone by that name. Somebody should do a search.
The first step would be to find the earliest published mention of the pass in a magazine (Nintendo Power?). Then try to track down people who worked there during that time, and see if anyone remembers where they got the code from. Then see where that leads, etc. It would be cool if the searcher brought a camera along and made it into a documentary. Maybe if I ever get money, a car, and a camera, I'll do it myself someday, if Justin hasn't already been discovered by then.
when i found out she was a girl... i shit my pants. seriously, i wouldn't play the game for months. i was a little boy, so i took it hard. GOD I LOVED THIS GAME THOUGH. Jesus i just hate that these will never be around again.
There's lots of password that cause that. The password code has actually been cracked, and people can make passwords that do whatever they want, and try to make them say whatever they want. Somebody actually succeeded in making a password that spelled Gunpei Yokoi's name and gave you tons of stuff. At least that's what I remember reading. The password used on the top video on Speeddemosarchive is like a 2 at the end of each line, the rest blanks. Don't know if this is the same video, though.
Don't really feel like comparing them too closely. I think another code that does this (takes off the suit without giving you anything) is all blanks on the top and all zeros on the bottom, or something like that.
Its hard to imagine that back when Metroid was first released backtracking was a new and novel concept and now it is almost universally loathed. How gaming has changed in the 20 plus years since.

Subjects that you want people to stay out of are usually subjects u don't post about on youtube.

@dbzelda123 Everyone isn't from America.
Great music, awesome game.
Done.

Super Metroid had much better music I found. I'm going through your list, hopefully I'll see that. Great post.

I'm a grown ass man. How would know how to spell bikini without looking it up, and why make such a big deal if it? Huh, sissy boy!!

Make sense?
miitube 3 years ago
Dear mister random-all-caps-guy: WHAT the FUCK are you talking about?! "bakini" isn't even a word!
Few things are more annoying than a moron who always feels the need to interject, regardless of how little he may know on a subject.

dumbass... he/she meant bikini you retard. everybody isn´t from america or england and in many countries english isn´t even teached so shut the FUCK up
dbzelda123 3 years ago
I considered that but hey fucktard, can you please tell me which country uses 'Bailey' as a term for Bikini?
I just can't stand people that need to make up bullshit just to be heard. In your case, you're just fucking stupid, nothing can be done about that.

BeefBoullionaire 3 years ago
The first step would be to find the earliest published mention of the pass in a magazine (Nintendo Power?). Then try to track down people who worked there during that time, and see if anyone remembers where they got the code from. Then see where that leads, etc. It would be cool if the searcher brought a camera along and made it into a documentary. Maybe if I ever get money, a car, and a camera, I'll do it myself someday, if Justin hasn't already been discovered by then.

When the japanese found out Samus Aran was a girl they shat bricks. So you reacted decent in compare.
AquamentusZero 3 years ago
yep, Metroid was way more popular in the USA because the Japanese audience hated the fact that it was a girl... Shame on them.
Samus rules :D

Either replay the game after you beat it or enter a password like JUSTIN BAILEY
JDtheDrunk 3 years ago
There's lots of password that cause that. The password code has actually been cracked, and people can make passwords that do whatever they want, and try to make them say whatever they want. Somebody actually succeeded in making a password that spelled Gunpei Yokoi's name and gave you tons of stuff. At least that's what I remember reading. The password used on the top video on Speeddemosarchive is like a 2 at the end of each line, the rest blanks. Don't know if this is the same video, though.
BeefBoullionaire 3 years ago
Don't really feel like comparing them too closely. I think another code that does this (takes off the suit without giving you anything) is all blanks on the top and all zeros on the bottom, or something like that.
