  • I played the HECK out of this game, still have one of the stations memorized... amazing that to finish the game takes 6 minutes... I want all my quarters back.

  • great vid Thanks for sharing! How can I play this game, too? Is there an emulator and if yes how's it called and where can I get it? :-)

  • @fredhandl No emulator could recreate this game and the ambiance of being in a real arcade room... something that is almost extinct now.

  • epic epicness

  • Surprisingly these were considered some of the most advanced graphics of it's day, even more so than home systems.

  • It also sounds like Turrican :)

  • It's funny how my memories of childhood tried to remember the graphics being better than they actually are. One of those things i guess.

  • the music made this game!

  • 6:01 Auugh!!

    OOF!!!

    Arghh...

  • check out that 8 bit tire screech!

  • i used to travel from Ireland to France on a boat called the St.Killian 2. And on that boat was this game. And I adored it, I totally adored it. It would have been around '87/'88/'89. It totally dominated my whole voyage!!

  • I have an original sit down cabinet version of this and the cockpit version of afterburner in my basement along with normal cabinets of space invaders and asteroids. Fun nights at my house:D

  • @aodgabelogan sweet dude, very cool

  • @aodgabelogan where the hell do you get stuff like that and how much does it cost?

  • @seancoppinger you are obviously under 25 and it costs 50 cents per play.

  • @jbraly under 25? haha, thanks for the compliment. I was in my teens when I used to play it in the arcade, along with streetfighter, gauntlet and double dragon :D

  • WE KILLED HIM! HOORAY!!

  • All to the LEFT ending of the game is the most difficult.

  • @alex24nis Thats actually the easy route...hard is all to the right

  • Nice Run

  • Badass.

  • This one of those games from back in the day as a kid I thought was the greatest thing ever! I still like this game alot.

  • good job!!!!!

  • Look at the trees.. it looks like he's driving backwards. This was good in it's day.. also out at the same time was the Le Mans driving game, also with a driving car cabinet.. a nice round affair you climbed into. Good times.

  • Super Hang On was much better.

  • Comment removed

  • Don't you just love, how despite driving nearly perfectly, he still gets quite close to the time limit.

Oh that coin-sucker design of Sega arcade games.. :D

  • i loved this game so much

  • I remember losing tons of quarters there, and the best part that the arcade looked like a ferrari, which was awesome

  • I remember when we were in drivers ed and we were watching a video about drunk driving and throughout most of the video, this kid's playing Out Run on the arcade.

  • @Doommaster1994 I remember that! It was on MTV and after crashing out, the voiceover said "On the street - you don't get another quarter." Classic!

  • @M1st3rB3nn Oh, wow, it was on MTV? I didn't know that.

  • I'm glad I got OutRun 2 for my XBOX, cause this game is hidden in it!

  • I find it funny that the tires are not moving

  • Splash Wave? Magical Sounds Shower FTW.

  • first game that gave me the feel of speed! years before the first need for speed!

  • I have this on Sega Saturn, it's just like the arcade. love it

  • @PhoenixRisen7 The port for the Mega Drive isn't that nice

  • @JtK27 yes dont get that one! lol

  • @PhoenixRisen7 Already have it. Haha...

  • he best 6 minutes of my life ! ty!

  • I clearly remember this game in the arcade for its great graphics and sound, and how fast it played. It really stood out at the time. It was also one of the first games I played that cost 50 cents instead of a quarter. For that reason, I didn't get to play it as much as I would have liked.

  • where can i found just only the music plz?

  • My fav outrun track splash wave.

  • Yu Suzuki!!

  • pretty short for a game that cost .50 and sometime a buck (back in 85 when a buck still bought something)! 6:13? Damn too short.

  • Even though this was all the easy stage. It was still a Flawless Victory. Well Done. Still like the way that SEGA just mirrored the car sprite when it turned right... Just watch the Prancing Horse.

  • Hey I had Out run - The Sinclair ZX Spectrum + Version - very cool

  • ouch that drop looks like it hurt

  • Yeah, and Turbo Out Run was also very good!

  • I always hit one of those stone pillers.

  • Sorrty i was born in the 90's and this shit is annoying

  • @fog340 don't watch it then, us oldies love this shit :)

  • if i ever win the lottery, i'm gonna get a red ferrari, a cd of outrun music and drive like a nutter along the california coast, might even get a fake clock counter for realism!

  • @markzilla6969 Don't forget the blonde girl ;)

  • @markzilla6969 A red Testarossa convertible in a Miami beach highway, better :)

  • @markzilla6969 A red Testarossa convertible in a Miami beach highway, better :)

  • @markzilla6969 I just looked you can grab a 1989 red cabriolet (not a testarossa like this) for only about $35k on cars.com in socal and go. Honestly thats not much to save considering the odds of winning the lottery are relatively impossible :)

  • @goingwithzed, it is a lot in the uk, most of us are on crap wages and can barely afford to live with the amount of bills and taxes, i have got a cabriolet though and it's red...but it aint a ferrari!

  • @markzilla6969 don;t forget the broad and the ausome 80s hair

  • wait a minute. i seem to remember a diferent ending where the girl gets out of the car and in to a porshe and you then have to follow them sort of like a round 2

  • i thought this game was as realistic as it would ever get when it came out

  • Wait a minute! At the end did they throw him in the air and drop him?

I haven't seen it to its completion but the full soundtrack was a welcome addition to my MP3 library.

  • simply wonderful, it`s all I can say. Thanks

  • gets pretty slow in the tunnels

  • @esathegreat It's the video codec for FLV (youtube's fault) .

The game does not slow down on the real thing (arcade machine) while on tunnels.

  • I remember doing this on a school holiday to Austria. Someone who knew I liked driving games (Daniel bloody Farrow) announced that I was awesome at Outrun and so the gauntlet was laid down. Someone gave me the money and bugger me if I didn't finish it without hitting a thing. Only ever got about halfway before. Never touched it again - I know I'm not that good.

  • Classic!!

  • When arcade were just fun and simple

    Pure nolstagia

  • when arcade games were at their money gobbling best

  • Congratulations!

  • not bad..i like it (Y)

  • THIS IS SO 80'S! PLAYED IT NON STOP AT ARCADES 1987-1988

  • wow. It's like sitting on time machine flying back when I was 7 years olds or sth. Good game. Good song. Good player.

  • the blue of the sky is perfect

  • one of the greatest games of the 80's

  • what 293 km/h

  • check point

  • haha the graphics are so much worse than i remember.

  • check point

  • music @ 1.50+ awesome

  • mate that was awesome. one of the hardest arcade games ever and you smashed it.

  • Oh man, I really, really loved the music part starting at 1:44 to 2:06 - I used to sing out loud, not hum, along to that melody in my arcade, lol. It's so awesome! I was in 80s jazz-fusion heaven; just me, my girl and my sports car!

  • oh man i loved this one....Kung Fu Master, 1942, Outrun and Enduro Racer...yeah!

  • Lol, typical 1980's-1990's racing game: White guy with a blond woman in a red Ferrari convertible. I remember playing this on the arcade when I was 8. The rain scared the shit out of me and I ended up losing. XD

  • The golden age of the arcades i was 13 when i played this in the arcade i have been in a few recently and have no urge to play any of the new machines

  • I always thought that the E route was the easiest.

At least for me, I can beat that route every single time.

  • I credit this game, along with several others for preparing me for Driver's Ed years in advance. :)

  • So you just floored it and hope you made it to the end within the time limit?

  • Hey philipriding, Butlins, I hope Bucks Fizz were playing!!

  • no bucks fizz, only wake me b4 you go go,lets hear it 4 the boy, holiday maddona.

  • IF they don't release it, it's always available on the PS2 Sega Arcade Collection..this is a classic arcade driving game...and even tho i've beaten it multi-times..i still give it a run thru every coupla weeks...just for fun

  • I hope Sega decides to release this classic as a VIrtual Console Arcade title for the Wii!

  • Maravilloso!! que juegazo para esa epoca, la unica contra es que era muy dificil para un jugador de poca edad...yo en esa epoca jeje.

  • well that brings back some arcade memories :-)

  • i remember a version at the arcades where it was first person view. and a cop used to bust you and walk up to the car and slam his fist onto the hood. and at the end a babe in a bikini would walk up to the car. which version was that? it was made by sega and it was an arcade. does anyone know?

  • @chibangin007 Hm, sounds like Chase HQ. Or Outrun Europe maybe?

  • nope, the graphics were much better then all these versions. and it was in fpv. i also think it was a black car. maybe a lambo, i used to play at chuck e cheeses when i was a kid.

  • i just download outrun coast to coast for pc. that game is HARD!

  • hey im at butlins holiday camp 1987.

  • I forgot, anyone here watch the Vacation films with Chevy Chase.

If you know all 4 films, the blond babe Christie Brinkley is seen driving beside Clark in the red hot sports car.!!

Could the babe in th passenegr seat of the car here be Christie, and could Clark be driving!

    Fun to imagine....

  • Ha!!

If this was real life, that crusing hot-rodding joyrider would be out of gas after the 1st level!!

  • The first game with a depth effect so convincing that I moved my head trying to look over the hills :)

  • yeah outrun! played it hundreds of hours!

  • great game, but you picked the ugliest courses to show off (pick a different path next time!). Dust bowls and twigs? ick.

  • If I had the opportunity to buy a single classic arcade machine, OutRun would be number 1 on my list.

  • I love this music but this also makes me think of speed racer lol

  • is it going in 1 million mph?

  • It's a Ferrari What do you expect

  • ohhh . i miss

  • Well done! I must have played this game 100 times back in the days - Never made it past level two - I guess I just didn't have what it takes :-)

  • My best time is 4:57 with left, right, left, left.

    Good performance :)

  • lmao then you have little to no taste for any good games.

  • It's one thing to play this game on an emulator, but to play this game in an actual arcade with Splash Wave blaring all around you while driving one handed with the other hand on the stick is simply amazing.

  • @Deokishisu

    Splash Wave? Good taste.

  • this game made me believe i REALLY could drive! now i flunked my license test

  • @cyberyanmar

And how much public property damage and bystanders did you run down? You're probably worse than a Crazy Taxi driver or even a Grand Theft Auto (God I hate that game) one hahaha. Just kidding.

  • This game always make me want to drive a ferrari in miami beach at full speed, watching the sun and breathing the breeze of the sea.

  • @Username7260

    With Passing Breeze ~

  • @SeventhSun Magical sound shower :DD

  • i can get the sitdown machine. if somebody is interested let me know. object location is the netherlands.

  • Anyone know where you can buy the full machine? I remember not being able to play it cause it was 75 cents a try, that was too much cash when I was a kid. But now, oh yes now, I am a grownup and I can BUY it!

  • Generally, arcade machines can range from 900 up to 10,000 dollars.

The upright OutRun machines are the cheaper ones, and the moving cockpit machines are hard to come by. They'll both leave a giant hole in your pocket.

If you want my advice, Download MAME to your computer and the OutRun ROM and just have fun for free.

  • cheers i was wondering which emulator would run outrun

  • depends what format you want.. Just be simple and download Mame32, then get the rom from one of the hundred websites out there offering roms.

  • thanks, i'll give it a go, meanwhile i've just been playing outrun 2006 on ps2! pretty good game too.

  • you should get the new outrun machine,,,,,,,,,its like the old game but it has more features and amazing graphics,,,,,,,it felt like i was playing a ps3

  • you can drift in the new one too.

  • hahahah STICK IT TO THE MAN!

  • My first memory as a kid was dropping quarters into this game at Chuck E. Cheese and playing it the entire time. Screw the pizza, screw the skeeball.

Of course I was just a little kid, I never beat the thing...but that didn't stop me from spending at least a hundred bucks trying to.

No concept of money, either...damn I miss that.

  • Try ebay.

  • awesome game play i must add ....i just downloaded it for MAME i still cant get to 2nd checkpoint ...i suck

  • Out Run is my life

  • Only the wonderful decade that was the 80s could produce a great game where the objective is to simply drive your Ferrari along the sun-soaked California coast, without a care in the world, with your girl by your side and accompanied by a smooth jazz-fusion soundtrack pumping out from your tape deck!

I'm glad I grew up in the 80s, I played this game a lot in my local arcade, and loved every minute of it. Happy times.

  • @noblebeech well put! :)

  • @noblebeech Reminds me of my trips to Cromer pier in Norfolk as a youngster!

  • @noblebeech thats true man

  • back in the days this game had the illest graphhics

  • Keep your Rad Racer.

OutRun has WAY better music, graphics, and gameplay.

  • I remember when this came out in the arcade in 1986 I think, give or take a year or two. At South Parade Pier in Southsea, in the eighties, it was such a big hit dozens of people waited just to have a go on it at a mere 30p, when the other machines were about 10p and 20p a go.

  • Look! I see a face in the clouds.

  • i think this was so possible on sega cd.

  • Did you read the title of the video. it says (Arcade). The sega sattern version has music that sounds the same though!

  • i tought you had aranged tracks dunno for shure but best home version, still this game wasdoable for a sega cd it doesnt have lots of colours and the scaling is piece of cake for a sega cd same for a possible power drift on sega cd.

  • mine to i bought the coin op arcade :D have both outrun and outrunt urbo sitting in my garage getting criminal investiagtions next

  • One of the best old school videogames ever made!!!

  • @TheFonz75 thats Y I made the car on Modnation Racers, look for it published

  • @TheFonz75 now all i wanna see outrun the movie

  • OMG I LOVED THIS GAME SO MUCH!!!!!!

  • My prefered game and arcade when i was a child!! i was go every day to the mall only for play that!!

  • Out Run was one of my childhood's favourites game. I finished all 5 variations.(I prefer E - Lakeside). PLEAAAASEEEEE tell me how can I get Out Run on my PC? Can I download it from somewhere? Contact me... anybody...

    Thank you!

  • I've heard about arcade emulators.

  • Heck, you can just download a genesis emulator and play the Genesis version, which I can't see a difference in.

  • Maybe because the difference with MAME is that you can build a real cabinet around it? You can be THAT hardcore sometimes. If only i could say the same for Daytona USA... no differences between arcade and home ports. Heh.

  • Well Played! This rooute (A finish) is probably the hardest.

  • Brings back memories...

  • That music is legendary!

  • even more it makes you feel summer in the winter,it,s really warm very cool idd.

  • I believe a similar engine of this was used for the Space Harrier games. Hell, it even has the "get ready" bit in both games.

  • SHIT!! Dozens of people could have been killed when they reach the goal line!!

  • Including the driver. Did they just drop the guy?!?

  • @BPhoenixProductions

    Fatality. Or Babebality.

There's going to be a bloody catfight later.

  • I would pay any amount of money to own this arcade game with the movement function!!

  • Try doing course E. Now that would be impressive if you do it :)

  • lol,many a coin dropped in this baby!winner of a game!

  • I came

  • Il mio miglior tempo è 4:57 con la strada più breve, ovviamente senza errori o cheat.

  • Is it just me or is this running at about 4fps???

  • This version of Splash Wave is much different from others. I would assume that is coming from the actual arcade instead of other versions claiming to be the arcade, right? This sounds good.

  • This video was recorded from MAME, so it's the arcade version being emulated. It's not recorded from an actual PCB.

  • @Annoyboy ya and we all know that emulators are for pussies

  • @crimsonhalo545 but finding the actual arcade game itself is EXTREMLEY RARE!

  • when I was kid I got some imaginations about that blond chick... memories!! I played it on MSX-1 colors sucked at the time, but it was still the best.
