I played the HECK out of this game, still have one of the stations memorized... amazing that to finish the game takes 6 minutes... I want all my quarters back.
i used to travel from Ireland to France on a boat called the St.Killian 2. And on that boat was this game. And I adored it, I totally adored it. It would have been around '87/'88/'89. It totally dominated my whole voyage!!
I have an original sit down cabinet version of this and the cockpit version of afterburner in my basement along with normal cabinets of space invaders and asteroids. Fun nights at my house:D
@jbraly under 25? haha, thanks for the compliment. I was in my teens when I used to play it in the arcade, along with streetfighter, gauntlet and double dragon :D
Look at the trees.. it looks like he's driving backwards. This was good in it's day.. also out at the same time was the Le Mans driving game, also with a driving car cabinet.. a nice round affair you climbed into. Good times.
I remember when we were in drivers ed and we were watching a video about drunk driving and throughout most of the video, this kid's playing Out Run on the arcade.
I clearly remember this game in the arcade for its great graphics and sound, and how fast it played. It really stood out at the time. It was also one of the first games I played that cost 50 cents instead of a quarter. For that reason, I didn't get to play it as much as I would have liked.
Even though this was all the easy stage. It was still a Flawless Victory. Well Done. Still like the way that SEGA just mirrored the car sprite when it turned right... Just watch the Prancing Horse.
if i ever win the lottery, i'm gonna get a red ferrari, a cd of outrun music and drive like a nutter along the california coast, might even get a fake clock counter for realism!
@markzilla6969 I just looked you can grab a 1989 red cabriolet (not a testarossa like this) for only about $35k on cars.com in socal and go. Honestly thats not much to save considering the odds of winning the lottery are relatively impossible :)
@goingwithzed, it is a lot in the uk, most of us are on crap wages and can barely afford to live with the amount of bills and taxes, i have got a cabriolet though and it's red...but it aint a ferrari!
wait a minute. i seem to remember a diferent ending where the girl gets out of the car and in to a porshe and you then have to follow them sort of like a round 2
I remember doing this on a school holiday to Austria. Someone who knew I liked driving games (Daniel bloody Farrow) announced that I was awesome at Outrun and so the gauntlet was laid down. Someone gave me the money and bugger me if I didn't finish it without hitting a thing. Only ever got about halfway before. Never touched it again - I know I'm not that good.
I remember this in the arcades when I was growing up. Went on a ski holiday (sorry) with my school to Austria and got challenged to a game. Someone knew I liked racing games and announced to the whole group that I was awesome at Outrun. I was OK, but do you know? Someone gave me the money and I'll be damned if I didn't finish it without hitting a thing. Never touched the game again. I know I'm not that good.

It's one thing to play this game on an emulator, but to play this game in an actual arcade with Splash Wave blaring all around you while driving one handed with the other hand on the stick is simply amazing.
And how much public property damage and bystanders did you run down? You're probably worse than a Crazy Taxi driver or even a Grand Theft Auto (God I hate that game) one hahaha. Just kidding.
Anyone know where you can buy the full machine? I remember not being able to play it cause it was 75 cents a try, that was too much cash when I was a kid. But now, oh yes now, I am a grownup and I can BUY it!
Generally, arcade machines can range from 900 up to 10,000 dollars.

i tought you had aranged tracks dunno for shure but best home version, still this game wasdoable for a sega cd it doesnt have lots of colours and the scaling is piece of cake for a sega cd same for a possible power drift on sega cd.
Out Run was one of my childhood's favourites game. I finished all 5 variations.(I prefer E - Lakeside). PLEAAAASEEEEE tell me how can I get Out Run on my PC? Can I download it from somewhere? Contact me... anybody...
Maybe because the difference with MAME is that you can build a real cabinet around it? You can be THAT hardcore sometimes. If only i could say the same for Daytona USA... no differences between arcade and home ports. Heh.
This version of Splash Wave is much different from others. I would assume that is coming from the actual arcade instead of other versions claiming to be the arcade, right? This sounds good.
when I was kid I got some imaginations about that blond chick... memories!! I played it on MSX-1 colors sucked at the time, but it was still the best.

I've heard about arcade emulators.
BPhoenixProductions 3 years ago
Heck, you can just download a genesis emulator and play the Genesis version, which I can't see a difference in.
BPhoenixProductions 3 years ago
Maybe because the difference with MAME is that you can build a real cabinet around it? You can be THAT hardcore sometimes. If only i could say the same for Daytona USA... no differences between arcade and home ports. Heh.

I believe a similar engine of this was used for the Space Harrier games. Hell, it even has the "get ready" bit in both games.

Fatality. Or Babebality.
There's going to be a bloody catfight later.

Is it just me or is this running at about 4fps???

This version of Splash Wave is much different from others. I would assume that is coming from the actual arcade instead of other versions claiming to be the arcade, right? This sounds good.
AMEwrestling 3 years ago
This video was recorded from MAME, so it's the arcade version being emulated. It's not recorded from an actual PCB.

@Annoyboy ya and we all know that emulators are for pussies
crimsonhalo545 1 year ago
@crimsonhalo545 but finding the actual arcade game itself is EXTREMLEY RARE!
