  • Reminds me of the Merrie Melodies short "Pigs is Pigs," where this little pig gets hooked up to a feeding machine, and is forced fed.

  • Anyone else think he has some kind of resemblance to Mike Myers? xp

  • I want to own a cinema and play nothing but Chaplin!

  • I saw this movie maybe 35 years ago. It was old then, and yet it's relevant even now. I've forgotten most of it and laughed so much at this clip! Time to see the movie again...

This was one of my dad's favorite movies... this and The Gold Rush.

  • you could make a nice saw movie out of this

  • the saddest movie ever...

I hope I'll never have children in my life. Life is pain, suffering. I feel a shit to put them in this world.

I really can't laugh watching this

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt No it's not. :)

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt I think you must be watching upside down

  • @philiphoward123 while I think people are never intelligent (never doubted it).

I would personally be "quite" sad to work there all my life. I know it would be funny for you; not for me, I'm sorry.

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt I agree, let's try to avoid sad things~

  • greece welcomes fresh 2012 business ideas to increase productivity.....thx!

  • hahahahahahaha at 1:34

  • Man, I watched this like 100 times and i still laugh every time! HAHA thumbs up if you agree

  • and still in 2014

i read the other day that hitler loved chaplin and emulated his moustache? if that's true it's the most horrifically ironic thing ever!

  • and still in 2013

  • @christophermatar Great clip. You got the point of it all wrong, though. It is not about lack of self reliance, etc. The whole movie was a political satire. Chaplin was strongly against de-humanizing conditions in factories (in this episode, factory management attempts to eliminate lunch hour by using feeding machine) and shark capitalism of that time. In a shameful development, Chaplin's US citizenship was revoked since he was assumed to be Communist for satire like that. Freedom of Speed, eh?

  • nice one

  • Funny shit. Old school.

  • 5 people don't have a Charlie Chaplin Eating Machine!!!

  • Genial!!!!!

  • and still will rule in 2013 XD

  • hahahaahaha POOR CHARLIE!! love him so much <3 :)

  • We had to watch this in my film literature class. Makes me feel warm inside knowing things were this lightly humored at one point.

  • We watched this movie in my J-term economics class!

  • 5 peoples justin bieber fans

  • @bawabah3 I'm a Justin Bieber fan..........and I like this :)

  • lol its in 1080

  • the end when he said "your mr. white" whats the name of that movie?

  • @tigerlep9 reservoir dogs

  • @webbie30000 i thought so but when i tried searching for it on this movie site called 1channel.ch it didn't find it

  • and still in 2012

  • I read somewhere that he developed and operated this contraption himself. Hilarious. There's also a great scene where some guy allegedly hides cocaine or some such highly illegal drug in a salt shaker and Charlie pours it onto his food...Goes loopy. Too funny...and that blindfolded skating bit....Amazing. Have a look at it sometime, somehow, whoever hasn't. Fantastic.

  • This film was pure genius. Chaplin was so far ahead of his time. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Charlie STILL rules in 2012!!!

  • 5 people don't know true comedy

  • Not sure it's so much about a lack of self reliance - isn't this more a comment on the brutal drive towards higher productivity and automation in industry? Even workers lunch time has to be controlled and made more 'efficient'.

  • charlie is the best guy

  • yes he do i think

  • bitch slap

  • glichy

  • AHAHHAHHAHAHA, i dont know if I should laugh or cry, after learning all about industralisation, hilton, taylor, marx.... what the f_ did we reach after all these machines?????? More stress, more comptetion towards one another??

  • If you love Chaplin, check out my tribute video!

  • Stop it eating maching you''ll ruin his beautiful stache

  • ou hey look. its adolf hitler beeing funny.

  • It was that guy! He jinxed it! The moment he went "look, it's not so bad." The corn started malfunctioning. Ahahahaha

  • சிரிப்பை சிரிகவைத்தவன்....only being to make laughter to laugh....

  • This is true humor and comedy(if I do say so myself)

  • The older Mr. Bean!!! hahaha love him

  • @kilzitxd45 Who's that Mr. Bean compared to Chaplin? Bean is more annoying than really funny. Chaplin rules.

  • @ 1:55 you can see that Chaplin is controlling it, bit of a blooper :p

  • @Saxappealed Not exactly. He's supposed to be working. Worker can screw the bolts and the machine automaticly feeds the worker.

  • Blooper??!! Be fair - it's not bad for 1936. None of this contrived CGI you get nowadays- at least this actually happened!

  • when I was a kid...i used to saw him scary....but now...am 21....I see him a "Legend"....here in Egypt...they immetate him till now....but they suck....Long Life Chaplin, even you're DEAD! :D

  • I dun know y I am sad after watching this video.

  • Charlie was a legend only now do I know why.

  • Dear YouTube Administrators, next time please install a "genius" button for videos like this. Thank you. Sincerely, Houdini774.

  • I could watch this every day, and still LOL. :D Something about the timing of that cream puff (baked potato?) being dumped on him towards the end gets me every time. hehe

  • Ha! Ha! He's amazing...

    :D

  • 2000 x's better than any comedy of today. I nearly pissed myself X'D

  • My favorite Chaplin movie, also my favorite silent movie ever. Don't get me wrong, The Kid is good and Buster Keaton made a lot of good ones but this one is hilarious to me.

  • Dislikers dont understand comedy

  • Class apart, even if we apply new techniques we will not produce replica of this legend in generations to come.

  • been nearly 100 yrs and still funny

  • I watched this as a kid and I still love it.

In the end, even the ever faithful mouth wiper betrayed poor Charlie...

  • The napkin really makes this bit.

  • I need to look this stuff up!

  • ROFL!!!!!! Way tooo funny!!

  • hahahahahahahahahaha havent laugh so hard in a while:)

  • they are more concerned with the machine than with Charlie (corn on the cob) lol

  • I saw this movie in History class, this is one of the best slapstick movies ever made!!!

  • @collectivelight me too... I LOVE IT..

  • jajaja que mate de risa

  • Charlie STILL rules in 2011!!!

  • @thenudo 2012 *

  • I think this is incredibly dated humour, and to watch a Charlie Chaplin film is the epitome of tedium :D

  • aohhhhhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyyy this is killing me hahaha too much laughing, I'm gonna have a heart attack

  • completely lost it at the corn on the cob hahahahahaha

  • I didn't expect to actually laugh out loud, but I think I pissed myself at the corn on the cob part

  • Grande maçaroca de milho!

  • Great Machine

  • His was master of masters tanks mr chaplin§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§

  • ومن الدره ....صنفره ......والمكن لما يسخن ....يجيب لأهله داهيه

  • Old comedy beats new

  • that was actually really funny

  • watch this: watch?v=QcvjoWOwnn4# and then see if you can spot the recurring theme in the comedies. it's about not letting machines take control. and i'm not talking about robots taking over the world, i'm talking about the changes which are happening all around us - everything becoming easier and more automated for efficiency, and our attitudes changing as a result, becoming lazier and more self-centred. he saw it all coming. nobody pays attention to him because there are no men these days.

  • HAHA!!

  • EAT THE CORN EAT IT!

  • WALTER DISNEY WITH CHARLIE CHAPLIN +10

  • Loooooooooooooooooooooool

  • at least the napkin worked each time

  • this technology is really innovative

  • Funniest SCENE in a film I have ever SEEN!

  • Aww poor man

  • Probably one of the most hilarious scenes ever made in a silent picture !

The biggest and surely most risible laughter of my life roared out before this scene.

  • At first I thought the title meant that the machine ate Charlie Chaplains! :)

  • charlie<3

  • This is really random, but I bet that Charlie Chaplin either smelled like squid or fish. I have absolutely no idea why I think this.

  • LMFAO!

  • Hau

  • ههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههههه

  • It's been a while since I last lolled so much!! I almost fell from my chair hahahaha! Thank you Charlie!! You're still far greater than now-a-days humorists, that makes you immortal :)

  • I love his expression at 2:04.

  • omg im crying laughing xD

  • Is this Hitler?

  • @6b616e Ironically, you know why Hitler got that moustache? Because of Charlie Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin was a funny, lovable character and Hitler wanted to be like him, that's why he copied his moustache.

  • let´s start with the soup again . haha

  • and stuff like this is the funniest thing, they got in the first half of the 20th century ^^

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahaahhahha fuckkkkkkkkkkkkk man

  • JAJAJAAJAJAJAJAJJAJAJAJAJ this is so funny

  • They make a machine to feed the worker, instead of building a machine to do the work. What this really says is - the human (Chaplin) is a PART of the MACHINE - does it not? Modern Times.

They don't make films with complex commentary like they used to.

  • @twinqletwinqle This is in fact a Marxist commentary on the status of the worker in Modern industrialized society; the more advanced the commodity, the more deformed the worker becomes. The worker also becomes alienated and a slave to the commodity.
