  • Its sad when this has 38,111 views and Rebecca Black has like 1,000,000......dumbing down of the world??

  • Don't worry. No-one will remember Rebecca Black a year from now. This song, however, has been around for 45 years, and will be around for a very long time to come. Ray Davies wins. @dopplerdoesnotlikeu

  • @mayasaunt O hell yeah Ray Davies always wins!! Im seeing him this November!!!

  • The greatest band of working class 70s.

  • Wyatt Gordon. Is sexy

  • Happy Birthday Ray Davies, England's National Treasure

  • foxtons thinking wish i could be like david cassidy with that hairstyle- great bassist bad haircut

  • At 60, I'm discovering The Jam. As a big Kinks fan hearing them cover David Watts I was pleasantly surprised. But...near the very end when the repeated "wish I could be like" goes higher with each repetition, The Jam craps out. Hear the Kinks' version or, better yet, get the album - "Something Else By The Kinks".

  • When I saw them a Reading Rock 1978 in the UK, this was my favourite song of theirs.

  • great song after this they were crap, the clash took over big time,,,but the ramones always rooled,,,haha weller

  • @calboy64 na they were still good after that....The jam beat all XD lol

  • @calboy64 not in england they didnt---- the jam were far bigger than the clash in the uk! and today are almost as beloved as the beatles

  • @salvadory the clash were a better band, hey but the jam are good aswell

  • @calboy64 thats debatable the jam ended with dignity- the clash ended under drug problems in fighting and shitty last album cut the crap- the jam singles go stride for stride with the clash- to me its a draw- in a 3 way tie with the damned

  • @salvadory the jam were better than the beatles,,,,

  • @calboy64 Agreed

  • my dad is called david watts and we had this played at his funeral, briught a lot of smiles lol

  • David Wants to be like me.....wish i could be what craigy wants

  • ba ba ba ba ba ba

  • I've just read this:

Jam Bassist Bruce Foxton rather than Paul Weller sang lead on this as it wasn't in the right key for the Jam frontman.

Can anyone explain to me what "it wasn't in the right key..." means? thanks.

  • @bonscott85 it means that the key the song was written in was not in Paul's range.

  • @modjoshie thanks mate

  • @bonscott85 google it, lol

  • @somonelse666 i asked here because i couldn't understand it even after googling.

@CrazedAfroninja - yeah, I think they're so gay and fancy free as well, LOL!

  • I only found out today that this was originaly by the Kinks Whilst reading a book about the 70s decade (it also talks about the 60s & other decades) so I came home & down loaded it, it's good but not nearly as good as this!

  • I really can't believe that The Jam covered this classic by the Kinks, but, as they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery, not a bad cover at all!
