  • His style of playing is remarkable, and moving...wishing him the success I'm sure he will gain..

  • So I hate to be this person... but has anyone mentioned how deliciously hot this man is? And a fantastic musician to boot?? Queue up people!

  • Merveilleuse interprétation.Dommage pour la coupure ,ce qui arrive assez souvent avec youtube.

  • David is so expressive, so exceptional. He is breathtakingly beautiful!

  • He looks different here.

  • @weirdyist Just a little younger that's all ;)

  • I have just been introduced to David Garrett's music. I am a classically trained pianist. Music is my life. I have yet to hear as skilled a technician as Garrett, and one that exudes such passion for his music, its contagious..a gifted virtuoso

  • i DID NOT KWED DAVID GARRETT, BUT HE IS FANTASTIC

    LN

  • True talent

  • Beautiful and breathtaking!

  • Beautiful.......couldn't say anything more!

  • I just love WATCHING him play...you don't even need to hear the music to HEAR the music.........

  • I LOVE David Garrett.

  • David is the only one that doesn't need to dress formally...

  • @MrAgentCooki Who cares, he'll always be handsome. Even without clothes >:D

    Hugs,

    Bob & Robby

  • He is very famous in my home...such a talent... this music is great... i love it... not only i danced so often to Tchaikovsky when i was in classical ballet... many popular songs have his as its source...*****

  • I love that David seems to really enjoy playing. He frequently has a little smile going on. He seems to approach music more on the playful side, even though he's serious at times. I like his choice of clothes. It's who he is. Most of all, I love the way his playing makes me feel!

  • I feel like when David Garrett plays fast, exciting piece, he's more interesting to listen to...

  • @cathechung

I'm sure when you write fast you are more interesting too....

  • His attire is likely his way of showing that this is his style. Deal with it. =P

  • Isn't he the greatest violinist all over the world...

He is born in Aachen (Germany). I think his play is so emotional and wonderful.

  • What about Nigel Kenedy ?

  • It's Kennedy with 2 "n"s. What about him? He's technically good, but I don't feel the passion in his playing that I feel with David Garrett's. Also, this is a place to comment on David's performance, if you wish to comment on someone else's performance, go to their page.

  • i never heard the name nigel kennedy before but i've watched the video where he plays the winter. it seemes like he is in his own world and around him are no people.

he is rapt in his music. what violin is he using? Stradivari (ithink he plays a violin from scott cao)

PS: My english isn't very good i'm from germany hope you understand everything !)

  • Beautiful.

  • love it

  • Now I will you share with how I view David Garrett... I look at him and I see him completely connected to his art for the violin is an extension of his soul, his passion for the music it creates ..for the feeling it releases... His cloths.. He is as beautiful in dressed up as dress down demeanor... Listen to the music... feel the music... And please stop cutting down and disrespecting him and each other... He is beautiful expression of life and love of all that is...

  • Hello everyone... I come to Youtube to research and get more familiar with many artists and their arts.... For the most part I am busy viewing the videos.. But for some reason I looked down and found some disturbing comment to each other. For one we should all respect each other and our unique views... Agree to disagree... And do so as honorable beings...

  • @777katarzyna thanks for the holier-than-thou attitude ... everyone always like a big dose of that with their music!

  • @777katarzyna thanks for your speaking...

  • What comes from the violin is important and in this case is quite magnificent - he also relates to those of us closer to the earth.

  • :O wayne his locking please? Mozart or beethoven dont looked good but played very well and this is all was matters

  • Samuel. youre an idiot, not only is he brilliant an more sucessful than anyone posting on here, he is also German, so get your fact straight, idiot.

  • Actually, his father is German and his mother is American.

  • Concerning his clothes... were is written that a violine player has towhere a tux or smoking... he s an artist he can do what ever he want..

  • Idiot Briton? The guys a German

  • i thinks thats one of the best videos online here concerning his looks and expression while playing... gorgeous!

  • ach wie toll !!!

    how beautiful !!!!

  • @JWallWill Puritanical and dour killjoy are not words heretofore ascribed to me. I'm usually considered quick and sharp witted with a broad, sometimes bizarre, sense of humor. By your spelling of 'humour' I have concluded that we are on opposite sides of "the pond" and am aware there is a difference in what is considered humorous. Here, your humor is more popular with boys than girls. Re: Ditty, I have exceptional elocution. G & S Savoyard. (I pity those downwind when you celebrate)

  • david, der fiedelnde geile hengst der... ;)

  • I hate that he's wearing jeans and a t-shirt. it's distracting, and unprofessional. good performance, besides that.

  • dude, he is just HIMSELF!! And this a real good positive rolemodel for all of us, I think he couldn't play so well if he would feel uncomfortable

  • cellolove7: If you find his attire distracting then look at his face. If that is too distracting, close your eyes and become one with the music.

  • Being comfortable with the skin you're in..that is what it's all about.

MUSIC IS GOOD! You can feel his sheer passion of playing beautiful music!!

Wish I had long fingers as does David..so I can reach chords better on my guitar!

Friends say get a custom made fingerboard to fit the hands so you don't get frustrated with the instrument you love so well!

  • as a classical musician myself--understanding its internal and evolution in social history regarding "attire" and appearance - i certainly don't care HOW a musician appears onstage - if it is in rags or tuxedo - so long as he plays the music with LOVE for it and to share it with others - that is all that matters in the end. the ultimate respect for the music is in its performance and how sincerely a musician plays it so that others can join in the experience of the world of sound as expression

  • why does he refuse to dress well? he looks unfitting in front of the orchestra, gorgeous as he is.

  • OM NOM NOM NOM!!

  • this man is great beautifull!!

  • Wow. He is gorgeous. I went on youtube to hear this song, expecting a crappy slideshow of tchaikovsky images, but this is much more pleasing to the eye. :):)

  • Yes, I think it is human nature to want to be unique and bring one's own "voice" or style to established forms of art/music. Though I must say - I understand where the formality of the white tie and black tails became a tradition to begin with. It is a lovely and classic look. Actually jeans/t-shirt are jmore of a formality these days:) Personally I find the tie and tails as beautiful to see as is the music is to hear.

  • i just LOVE him!!!!

  • i love how he's not afraid to wear jeans and a tshirt and show off his amazing talent(:

  • All those offended by his apparel, close your eyes and listen to the genius of his playing.

  • What this guy is doing here is uniquque. Classical music even being so beautiful is restricted by invisible lines to a certain audience. He here is trying to BREAK that line, he is taking the formalities that make people stay away off.

  • 5 Sterne nach wie vor dafür von ganzen herzen :)

  • i agree tht a gud classical musician isn't defined by looks. but i think he shud wear some formal clothing, its like a respect to the music, the audience, players at the back, and to the composer.

    btw, david, im melted

  • wow look at that stud

  • Comment removed

  • try Joshua Bell for a less PBS-ish performance of this

  • what a stupid think talking about dress....

he is so unique ...if Bach was an homeless would have been ever Bach, isnt he ?

  • You guys are right, but here we have one of the best violin players in the world. Who cares how he dresses.

  • ya 1 he looks no different than someone on doing time. it is not classical music mode. i agree with pieldeloliva81 of course they dress informal when rehearsing but with this guy he looks like he has no good aura or choices.

  • Sorry, but the playing is good and the piece is beautiful as usual, but this guy is no classical musician. He looks like he has done some time. I'm young, but I like my classical music and culture to be how it should be. Musical, decent and with class. Too many things in society are common nowadays with no sense of self-value or esteem.

  • you dont have to dress like them or talk like them. as long as you find yourown style... thats what matters. and yes he is amazing... he just doesnt like to follow the classical trends

  • Yes i feel i agree my friend. it is nice for classical to remain its self. that's what is making classical music so why change it? it won't be itself anymore and won't be special anymore. it sets classical music apart from today's plain ugly things. i belief you can do your own style or trademark but still remain in the mode. it's balance. like that stylish ofra harnoy or the famos chinese pianist LANG-LANG, he's a very good one, so chic and cool but still classical music/ culture and class.

  • A classical musician isn't defined by looks. You admit the playing is good -- actually it's excellent. That's what defines a musician. Anyway, lots of classical musicians look iike this when they're not in concert. They don't walk around all day in tails! So do they only become classical musicians when they put on their monkey suits? What if you heard a recording, you wouldn't know how he looks. It's a legitimate question about dressing for a concert, but don't say he's no classical musician.

  • beautiful! and what a gorgeous guy...

  • Such a wonderful piece of Music... and what a beautiful man. I agree - it doesn't matter what he's wearing!

  • I have to agree, it'a all about the music! And whatever he wears, he looks fab!! And he is just amazing........love to listen to him, can't wait to hear him live!

  • ...he should dress as he chooses. It is all about the music. He is beautiful tho' in the dress that he chose.

  • never limit yourself by saying never

  • david garret is my idol i play the violin and try every day to live up to his standards even though i will never be better than him i still try hard every day go david

  • i dont understand how you can get a personality free feeling from david, he is full of personality!!!

  • The first time I heard this I was driving late at night and had to pull over. It still makes me shiver. Such emotion.

  • Lovely tone, expressive playing, what more is there??? I remember hearing this played 50 years ago ...

  • David look very Germany, nothing involved American. He is gorgous and a great violist. I love the way he dresses. so sexy

  • I love his violin although I don't like the way he dress. I think that his technique and musicality are superb!

  • He needs no formal clothes. Only by his music and his physical appearance he is beautiful!

  • I think the way he dresses in his performances is just trying to get more young people interested in classical music. I don't think it supposed to annoy people or anything. The style is working too, a lot of young people see this guy and think better of classical music. I think it was a great message.

Thats to all the people saying he should have dressed more formally. Well, I like how he's being a bit different then them. he sure stands out. More people know him.

  • WoW!!!

he is verrry talented at make a music line

    great! lolllllllllll

  • David Garrett is an outstanding violinist.

    Close your eyes and HEAR!!

  • Why do you guys care about his clothes ?

just hear the way he plays and basta !!

And for the people who do not know , he is german, born in 1980 in Aachen and lived in Germany 20 of his 26 years of life , just 6 years ago he moved to New York.

    Prost !

  • lol, so wouldn't we xmaiix, so wouldn't we. :)

  • Did you take your pills this morning? What the hell are you talking about. And no, we wouldn't sell our children for our president. We hate the bastard too. How the hell did this kind of comment spawn from this video? Just listen to the music.

  • David Garrett is not only a "typical American",he is not American at all.Your ugly comment about Americans only disgraces you not us.I would assume you are a middle class man living in a poor country trying to seem a bit intelligent to wash away your own being. This video is all about great music performed by a genius violinist. And I don't think that this is for you,get life!

  • No, certain things there cannot be an exception for. He is presenting himself as an interpreter of genial music, in front of an audience, he should wear formal clothes, its about presentation. Think about it, you wouldn't want to see your MPs and presidents wearing shorts, would you? He is very talented, although talent can only go so far. Shortly saying, I do not think it is proper for him to play in those clothes. Call me more traditional or whatever, but its a certain higher quality.

  • two little challenge´s. My english isn´t perfect. This is my first headword on YouTube.

    I´ll do my best. ;-)

I think you are allright describing him as an talented interpreter of genial music is certainly not meeting the standard of formal clothes. I agree with you that this is not the way of presentation in the past or even basically today. Even to my mind (and i´m 26 and never play´d a violin, never listen to a classical music) this is not the way of presenting classical music.

  • But for all that, shouldn't be the skill of either human/content of his art being the whole purpose of art/life.

  • Don´t get me wrong... Me human too ;-) I also think an feel in the way I got shown. And there are so many times were I´m not able to overlook someones clothes/look etc. Nevertheless I think the challenge for us must be to get the content of every human skill/life.

We are living in a world were we´re used to so many standard´s(old ones/new ones), sadly this/our standard´s is the point why millions of us never´ll have the chance to be rated for their content.

  • I think not until we get used to see the content in each situation of life/art/human we´ll recognise how many talented we have in this world and how to use it.

  • And now I see... haven´t the rigt post order. Sorry its my first headword ever. Not just on you tube.

    thanks

  • crazypianistik: "talent can only go so far" !!?? So are you saying he is less talented when he wears jeans than he is when he wears formal attire? He is Exceptionally, Superbly Talented, his attire doesn't change that, except in your mind.

  • What an amazing and incredibly talented young man! I LOVE his look as it's NOT about clothes it's about music. . .what an influence and hero power to entice the young into looking at classical music from a new perspective. . .I can look like that and still embrace classical music! GO DAVID! You are a GIFT to the world of music!

    Angel Heart

  • This is how to get younger people into classical music. Take the focus off of the stilted clothing and put it on the music. This is nice!

  • What happened to playing for the love of music? Or even for the love of playing? Geez! Exceptions can be made for some who's talent is as brilliant as his.

  • Wow absolutely beautiful, a gorgeous guy with an incredible talent i love the fact that he always looks so casual and natural.

  • Good GAWD! So much more than yummy. He plays like an Angel.

  • Oh my! Beautiful music, beautiful man.

  • nah just go turn on your ultra talented rap music and you will be fine sparky.

  • oh my...I'm in love with David. He's gorgeous. Listening to him play brings tears of joy. *sigh*

  • gorgeous AND talented

  • Oh, he plays sooo beautiful! What a wonderful tone! Poor guy that his violin is broken now:(

  • Yeah, what a nasty thing to have happen in such a way!!

  • me encanta esta violinista lo amo y toca excelente julu de oberhausen alemania

  • I'm going to the Barbican as well and I'm looking forward he's very talented and who cares about his look wich I like too.

  • The David Beckham of the violin?!

  • i would really like to see him performing in france.

  • I am going to see this man play at the Barbican in Feb and so I thought I would have a preview of his style. I am no expert but he plays beautiful to me and is introducing people like myself to the classics and this can only be a good thing. SUIT or no SUIT

  • I didn't go to this video to critique his fashion, I didn't come to this video to listen to people poppycock and bicker about his appearance, I came to hear an astonishing talent play an astonishing piece. Now to my point, if you don't respect the musician, don't listen to their music, otherwise get the hell out, you only disgrace yourself and those around you.

    -Xander

  • he is o.k...but no match for sarah chang as an 8 year old...

  • i agree with jas01flower.... i'm still a teen n i appreciate ppl like david garrett n the music they play... i like the way he dresses 2 show that we can enjoy classical music too!!

  • Awesome.

    Love the outfit as well

  • wonderful seen at the albert hall Myrtle

  • Very sensitive man ;-)

  • Music isn't about how someone dresses. It's about feelings. So what if he didn't wore a suit ? Atleast he played the piece with great tone & put feelings in it. :)

  • Celestial Blessings!

    Parece até um Sonho Real!

  • Very tender and beautiful

  • WOW! LOVE Garrett and his talents as a musician! Lovely job!

  • lol....david wore such clothing so that youngster can appreciate the classical music.....classical music are not just meant for the metrosexual and highclass socialites

  • totally agree!! ^^

  • Innapropriate.

  • @tomhayward99, what? If you're talking about your comment, I can only agree: Inappropriate

  • I am totally captivated!!!

  • wow! even gays fall for that man.

  • Ti Ammiro Garrett

  • Clothes doesnt say NOTHING!!!!!

  • nope i was wrong, he really performed in that clothing. maybe hes trying to say something.

  • tell me this is a rehersal and not a performance.

  • adidas I will be shocked if you've ever given a musical performance if you say its all acting, and if thats all it is to you then I say you are one pretencious bastard

  • Beautifully played. Nice tone.

  • ok he acts too much

  • what is music performance but acting? music performance is all about bringing out feelings and how else do you do that than acting the part?

  • PLease guuuyyys...I really need to see more movies with this guy.I saw him live with sibelius and it was great.Anybody can put more videos with him?I will owe you :)

  • OMG! HE LOOKS JUST LIKE KURT COBAIN!

What an interesting combo, Cobain and Tchaikovsky.

Hmmm.. that's so beautifull. I normally can't stand this "kind" of Tchaikovsky, too emotional.

  • ye he didnt suit to the orchestra in those clothes

  • Nice. Like the piano as lead better.

  • Moving piece and good performance Mr. Garret! I hope see you again in my hometown: Peru.

But please... put on a suit!!!
