The really rare thing about Mario is that he was one of the very few that could really,
really "reach" people. I personally cannot fathom anyone not being affected or at least impressed with his voice. Maybe he wasn't technically perfect by professional standards of serious singing. Yet, it's almost impossible not to ignore that possibility
and simply revel in his gift from God. How many singers can really "touch" us?
Golden Days from The Student Prince is Mario at his best - yes he could reach the high notes effortlessly but his mastery of soft romantic singing is magnificent.
He fills every note with emotion and the beauty of his voice brings tears to the eyes - how could Mario have had such a voice and stunning, handsome looks! I know because I saw him in concert and actually met him.
Thanks for these two songs - I feel great after listening to them!
Poor vocal technique is not a factor that destroyed Mario Lanza, this is not even close to the truth. Lanza was gifted with the most natual tenor voice out of all the great operatic tenors of his time. Never a weakness.
I truly believe that poor vocal technique and a wild self-destructive temperament were the two factors that actually destroyed Mario Lanza. Being subjected to general manipulation, booze, over-eating, many things. Yet some aspects of his life seem obscure to me. Maybe one day we´ll know what really happened! Sometimes he looks vulnerable, pretending something! At the very end he appears bloated and unhappy! Although his glorious natural voice will remain enchanting everyone forever!
Were you there in the room when Mario lanza died??? Honestly, who the heck cares what you think. Didn't your mother ever tell you, if you can't say anything nice, then zip your lips!!!! I dare anyone to deny such a great talent ever again.
@listeningtoit Which world do you live in???? You obviously know nothing about Mario except the rubbish you have read about him. He never pretended anything - he was just insecure and found his success bewildering. You cannot say he had poor vocal technique then add that his voice will remain enchanting forever! Make up your mind .... I made mine up ages ago! I have been a devoted fan, in awe of Mario Lanza for 58 years and will never change my opinion. He was just the greatest!
This is a truly beautiful video... thanks a million for posting it. Mario had such a magnificent voice. He gave so much pleasure to so many in his short life.
johnvanbuyten. Ty so very much for this wonderful post. Ty for reminding us that if God could sing this is how He would sound. Mario always said it was God's Voice and that he was just the humble care-taker of it.All he wanted to do was share this God-Given gift with every-one, that's what really made him happy. To bad the Press and Hollywood Crucified him. He could have had so many more years of glorious singing. I hope Dore Schary is burning in Hell for ruining Mario's Movie Career.
When I was a 14 yr old taking violin lessons ...I was a better singer and taleted voice ....I remember listening to Mario's ..Student Prince....I love Pavarotti and Buerling and the greats like Caruso and Carreras and Domingo...but given the chance ...Lanza would have been the best of the best...the greatest natural talent and voice I ever heard ...I am 65 yrs old
are you loocking for all the filmography and discography of Mario Lanza. I also own rare and hard to find concerts audio and video, documentaries and biographies,if interested, contact me for a full list, located in lima peru
Thank you posting this wonderful clip. Paul Potts winning Britain's Got Talent reminded me what great opera singing is - appealing to all. I'm a hippie chick/rocker, and I love Paul and Mario!
