I was watching the commentary and Stallone said it was more interesting if Paulie suddenly went from being angry to "hey" in no time. Just to show how erratic their friendship is.
love that scene, so should of kept it in the film! what shame. Like most of us i guess we all push someone away atleast once in our lives that love us.
I love Rocky Balboa (the film) as much as any of them. It is easily for me the equal of the original Rocky movie. Why in the world didn't they keep this scene in. It has so much emotional impact and resonance. It should have remained in the final cut of the movie. It's so much more meaningful than just having the encouragment from Paulie that you do see at the end of this.
Damn, that really chokes you up. It makes me think of the hard times I have gone through in my life. I think everyone can relate to this scene in one form or another.
the truth about paulie....he realized he has done nothing in his life and now hes sister is dead and he misses her very much,he loved her and he loves rocky because he took care of him
and in the series he rarely prove he has feelings so...it's like the last confesion
You try pondering over so many tragedies in your life. Then you'll realize that breaking down in sheer sadness and regret isn't that different from how Paulie shows it. Crying doesn't always involve tears (figuratively and literally), and it doesn't take an emo to be that sad.
It's a real shame that this scene got cut. It easily would've been the most touching scene in the film. I think they deleted it since there's a reference to Paulie's girlfriend which they edited out of the film altogether and rightfully so since the girlfriend really didn't fit into the story. I still think they should've redone the scene.
This gives me an idea... when I get the DVD, I'll "color correct" the scene to match the rest of the film, trim some of Paulie's crying (it sounds realistic, but many people agree it doesn't quite "work" in some parts), and add "Mickey" from Rocky III as the BG music... expect it in a few days!
They should of had that in the film. It was great and moving as well. It would of made the film a lot more emotional. Can't wait till dvd comes out, there will be loads of deleted scenes to see.
rocky balboa dvd on sale 3/20, with a bunch of deleted scenes, an alternate ending, blooper reel, audio commentary with sly, and more, great scene by the way!

My god, this is a really sad scene. Paulie always loved his sister, but never really proved it too much.
