Horrible stuff to afflict on a developing sentient mind - but this is no doubt very very important research. I have a hard time seeing how one could ever make any real progress without some ethical flexibility in this kind of research.
It is amazing just how much of behavior problems trace back to the formative years. It is unfathomable to me personally that education is mandatory to operate a moped, but NOT for something as critical as raising a child. how much suffering could be alleviated...
Without sounding anthropomorphic, it has been proven that animals do have emotions. Many species mourn, form family structures and show empathy and compassion.
Monkeys do not have emotions, they have instinct. Monkeys are not capable of higher level thought. Thier thoughts are "Can I eat that? Can I outrun that? can I have sex with that? " You know kinda like the French people.
@junkintrunk55 Thank you. As you have said before, it is not ok to attribute human emotions onto animals. It amazes me how people do that. I have heard words such as, "disqusted, hatred, hurt feelings" etc to describe how animals feel...isn't there a name for that in psychology? Transferrence...yeah that's it.
are you fucked in your brain, bitch? harlow didn't change shit they way we raise kids, its been done for thousands of years before he showed up. I'm sure these experiments were a guise for his sick desires to manifest himself. you are one sick bitch if you think this has any scientific merit.
@crackawise You have no respect for anyone or anything. A POS comes to mind. FO! You should apologize to the woman for your coarse language but I doubt you have the ability. Don't send me a stupid, foul mouthed reply as it will just prove my point.
@crackawise You obviously don't have any idea how the children were raised a few centuries ago. This stuff wasn't know for "thousands" of years, go read a book, and educate yourself.
can sombody help me please? is this "classical" or "operant" conditioning? thanks.

@arle0127 This is not conditioning at all. This is innate behavior.

This research is definately relevent and well used, but surely he could have found a different way to do it. Definately unethical!

@xXpaige567Xx It was done in the 1950's, it wasn't unethical then.
Look at the "unnecessary fuss" video's done in the 1970's This was perfectly legal back then.
As they brain injure baboons, they are all laughing and joking about it. This would never be tolerated today.

Good job! It's interesting that the cloth made such a difference and the monkeys without the cloth mother ended up with mental issues.
