New Orleans Jazz and ragtime are very close relatives. Buddy Bolden (often considered the first jazzman) called his music ragtime and that is going back to before 1900, when the word jazz did not even exist. What we call jazz evolved from ragtime, blues, church music, pop songs of the day and the march tunes of the parade bands.
Never the complaints , these are brilliant musicians .

Though it is called The "Snake Rag", this is actually a Dixieland piece and not an actual Scott Joplin type rag.

@Jazzbonick When people say "Should never" i do as a matter of reflex. If Joplin told me to, I'd listen. But I'd still do what feels good.
