  • Pro Guitar Shop are not the best just because of their brilliant videos, which in my humble opinion are way better than any others out there, but also because of their interaction with their audience. It's fantastic that i can visit a video from 2008 and find a comment that they have responded to no more than a month ago. You're my go-to channel for everything pedal related, keep it up guys!

  • @farbrorpuh Thanks for your support!

  • This vid is popular on Grenada

  • Hunger strike by temple of the dog! I really love that song 3:50

  • Back in the fast lane The Eagles

  • @EHXGUY Its actually Life in the Fast Lane by the Eagles. Lol

  • Back in the fast lane

  • What song is it at the very beginning? like.. 0:00?

  • Great song choises! Dock of a Bay and Hunger Strike. Thank you Andy!

  • Dude the battery life in these pedals without an adapter and an led is like 300-400 hours of battery life.

  • Why is there no DC power input????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!

It's obviously a reissue, not like people wanna pass it off as the original. So what's the point of sacrificing modern upgrades on a re-pro copy circuit?? Dammit! I really hate batteries in my stomps....ugh

    I still love MXR though....;)

  • Anyone else really not notice much of a difference between this and a regular dyna comp? hell, without an AC adapter you're kinda losing out for extra money

  • Can someone tell me why this is $100 more expensive than the standard?

  • Hunger Strike \m/

  • Nice pedal... but no AC adapter = deal breaker

  • if only this had a 9v input it'd be perfect, I've got a keeley comp and think this one sounds a lot nicer

  • So many of the MXR pedals overlap and are the same pedals internally..

Is the Custom Comp really the same circuit?

  • "I'm sitting on the dock of the bay...watching PGS videos"

  • "I don't mind stealing bread from the mouths of decadence..." Nice:)

Anyway, I was just wondering what the noise floor of this thing is like, particularly w/ single coils. Better or same as the standard block logo, for example?

    Thanks!

  • DIre straits!

  • Has anyone compared the Dynacomp m-102 to the csp-028 reissue? The m-102 goes for $70, the reissue goes for twice that.

    Is the reissue worth it?

  • @utube9000 Absolutely. I had a Dyna Comp for 2 years and it was my only compressor. I recently upgraded and the difference is huge. Either this is a really nice pedal or the Dyna Comp was a huge piece of shit, which I really doubt because MXR makes pretty damn good pedals.

  • bread is on the table and the slaves are out workinnnnn

    I'm goin hungryyyy

  • How does the MXR Custom Comp compare to this pedal? Do they sound pretty close to each other?

  • Which one does Eric Johnson use? I really like his clean tone

  • @FiatLux8888 i think he uses this one, because in one of his demos the pedal doesnt have LED

  • They should have taken something good and made it better by adding the LED and power.

  • Do you notice any high end loss with this pedal?

  • Dire Straits - Sultans of SUSTAIN!!

  • Whirlwind makes a great copy of this pedal, handwired with an led and 9v jack.

  • What was the drive pedal at the end? Sounded great!

  • I think he just push the guitar volume back to max. No drive pedal at all, just overdriving the amp I think.

  • Thank you! You just helped me decide which one to get. I knew I wouldn't be able to tell the difference by just listening; I might be able to tell the difference between the re-issue and the new one by playing them, but I'll bet it would be hard to tell the difference. I've tried to find out as much as I could, but until your video had never heard that the new one has a true bypass and the "old" one doesn't. To me, that makes the difference.

  • Just got this pedal a few days ago with a green LED, true-bypass, and ac power adapter jack. It really does amazing things to your tone!

  • *ordered*

  • nice, how u like it?

  • Lack of LED annoys me.

  • tried one of these at PMT music shop... i own a dynacomp reissue and it sounds the same to me.

At the end of the day... the circuits are identical and the only real difference is the component choices.

For a distortion or fuzz a small change in parts choices might make a big difference to sound but for a compressor that is designed to not be noticed it is impossible to tell the difference.

  • buy it moded then from analog man

  • @fluffyblonddoink Yea analog man buys a whole bunch of them and mods them. What about the other folks who don't want them modded and can't get them because analog man is buying most of them. These pedals are in limited supply due to the rare chips they put in them.

  • @wesselbindt

Ohh... I dig it. I hate ultra bright blue leds burning my retina :)

I know that sometimes in the thickest mix it might be hard to hear if the effect is on or off... but if you can't hear it, are you sure the audience can. And if they can, do they really care? :)

  • @wesselbindt LED's suck tone.

  • hOLY gRAIL tONE!

  • Sultans of swing!

  • the reissue doesnt have a status light, power input and isnt true bypas....!?@ wtf... why not just by the on that has - ccccccraaaaap heehee

  • If you can't hear when your compressor is on god bless you...

  • @musiccalgary so you are born on stage of the wembley stadion and never left for playing in clubs with horrible acoustics...?

  • im gonna sound really stupid but what does a compresser pedal do

  • gives you an even output signal so like it takes away some of the dynamics from picking

    also adds alot of sustain

  • @queenforlife96 makes quiet notes n loud notes the same volume

  • it limits the amplitude range of an input signal by introducing a higher threshhold. The threshold squashes the top of the wave to a lower amplitude.

On the dyna comp the threshold is pretty much fixed - the sensitivity just controls the level at which the threshold kicks in. Up to 12 it controls the intensity of the knee and after that it introduces a volume swell.

  • the intro is life in the fast lane

  • what is the intro song?

  • The Eagles - Life in the Fast Lane

  • what song is that in the background at 0:50?

  • An instrumental version of "All Wells Dry, Even The River" by Plaid is Murder

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos - what is the intro song title?

  • @jamiquim "Life in the Fast Lane" by The Eagles

  • what song is that in the background at 0:50?

  • Dock of the Bay right? Finally one i know!

  • Hi!! andy...

After all I return to basics..\m/

    This pedal is really wonderful...\m/

  • 5 stars for temple of the dog

  • Between the Keeley and the Dyna comp 76 RI, which is the better pedal? Any words from the guys at PGS?

  • Both excellent pedals, just different. Can't really go wrong either way. Listen to some videos and let your ears be the judge.

  • Its hard for me to tell the difference through my crappy computer speakers, can you elaborate a little on how they are different please?

  • Check their site. They have a new video section with cd quality audio.

  • @lando885 headphones my friend

  • I got a nickle and a nail

  • It's a shame how poor the intonation on these brand new strats is :/

  • Through hole or is this surface mount like most newer pedals?

  • SAM & DAVE!

  • I have mine since 1978 ... still works fine

  • sittin on teh dock of the bay! 2:50

  • I have mine since 1978 ... still works fine

  • took a while for this video; i've had mine since the spring! definitely a great comp :)

  • Sounds good

  • Temple Of The Dog - Hungry

    sounds good.

  • ... Life in the fast lane?

  • Yeah

  • Eagles

  • sultans of swing :)

  • It was a nice pedal then, and it is the same today....

  • Sultans of Swing!

  • I don't mind stealing bread...

  • seems to add a lot of treble

  • hunger strike-temple of the dog!!

  • I could find a use for it probably, but I'm honestly just not a compressor guy...

  • that was a awsome chord you played after you played life in the fast lane!!!

  • thanks for playing Dire straits andy your the man!

  • you're the man (you are) .....not 'your' - possessive pronoun

  • Yeah, thank you good sir, Mind you I'm not an English Major.

  • I thought the comments had to do with music, not grammar. By the way, 'your' is a possessive adjective, the pronoun is 'yours'

  • Comment removed

  • You could just leave it on and put it in a true bypass loop or something.

And if you had something like a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power, you could use a battery clip.

  • Or you could do what I had to do 30 yrs ago... unscrew the pedal from the board (long bolts running up through the threaded cover holes... un-ground the copper strips that kept the noise to a dull roar.... replace the 9-volt... and then reverse the process. All while on break between the first and second sets.

  • It's a re-issue... so who wants it? There's a market for those of us who had the originals and would like to replace our rigs exactly like they were.

    That's about it.

Younger players - no way, you're right on the money. There is a lot better stuff out there today. I had a full compliment of MXR stuff in the '70s... so when the nostalgia bug bites, I think about locating a new (old) phase 90 or Distortion+

  • dire straits!

  • Gorgeous... the only drag I see is that you have to crank the Output to achieve unity gain, which may increase noise? I might be wrong on that.

  • NoiseGate?

  • Nice rendition of the Otis Redding. Got tabs?

  • tabs are bad for you brains..

  • Life In The Fast Lane - Eagles yeah!...The reason people use Compressors is best explained in this video. Uncolored tone w/sustain, even dynamics and volume. Fuzzs, distortions, overdrives etc... All color the natural input tone to a certain degree.

  • this vid changed my mind about buying another compressor, never been happy with any of them.

  • yeah i don't really see the point in a compressor cause if i wanted to give it more sustain then i would probably want to add more gain too so i would use an overdrive or fuzz pedal instead

  • well thats sold me on this pedal!!!

    thanks so much Andy!!!

  • i feel honored to be your internet frand andy :D

  • All i need is this and my pedalboard is complete. And a tube screamer. And an EQ pedal. And a new distortion. And modulation effects.

  • lol that's like saying "i have everything in the world..except a wife, money, house, car, and health insurance."

  • lol

  • lol

  • Andy you know all the classics man.

  • Oh what's that song around 3:00 ? Pearl Jam?!

  • Temple of the Dog.

  • Sittin on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding. The guitar was by Steve Cropper :)

  • Temple of the Dog - "Hunger Strike"

  • Yes!!! i'm his internet friend

  • yesssssssss dire straits :)

  • EAGLES, OTIS REDDING, DIRE STRAIGHTS, PEARL JAM NICE!!!!! I love the sound, but I might mod it if I ever got it to have true bypass.

  • sittin on the dock of the bay

  • I'm usually not so big on comps but this thing sounds fantastic

  • whoa your tone on Hunger strike definitely sounds better than the original!

the original Sultans of Swing tone is untouchable though - I always felt it's the best sound in guitar history, I could only dream of getting that tone

  • IMO your version of Life in the fast lane sounds better than the original! Andy you the man!

  • What song is that at 1:42 to 2:25 ??? & the band that it originates from?

  • Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits

  • otis redding....

  • can someone please tell me wat the first song he played was im goin crazy trying to figure it out

  • @dirtyolbum96

Life in the fast lane by The Eagles

  • the hunger strike riff was beast

  • I think this is the MXR which I like the most.

And Andy... Hunger Strike... you are great...

  • Sultans of Swing!

  • joe walsh!

  • Sultans of Swing!!

  • This compressor pedal is supposed to be permanently on while we play with our other pedals or just for studio work and some clean passages? How do you use yours? Thanks :D

  • Most comps are used in a variety of ways. Some players use it all the time, some just use it for solos, some use it for clean passages, some have it all the time, some don't use it at all.

  • @CrimsonEdge38 and some use it for funk ;)

  • wish i could afford these guys you demo...i hate not having a good job[s]

  • 5th! Story of my life.

  • 4th!

  • Mark All the Way maybe.. you should have played Shine On YOur Crazy Diamond..
