  • i have a 2011 white macbook and it doesn't have the audio in port, what should i do?

  • @rorscachbestbud123 i have one too, go to System preferences, then sound, and then change the "Use audio port for" to sound input. Hope it helped :)

  • @danlb2k8 you are such a lifesaver!!! i owe you one dude, legit :DD

  • @rorscachbestbud123 no problem mate :D happy recoding!

  • @danlb2k8 and to you as well sir!! :D

  • The band garae i have doesnt have details..so i dont know how to cut that sound!!!!=(

  • I havent got a audio in cuz ive got the new macbook pro :x how can i setup my guitar with the macbook ? :x

  • get a soundcard... SO much better for your pc and MUCH better quality!

  • can you show me how to do this on logic ?

  • Is this...right?

  • do i need speakers hooked up or can i use my speakers on my mac?

so i followed each step exactly up to when you select "real instrument" than i click metal and i hear nothing out of my macbook, no sound at all like that annoying sound you hear once you click on metal. wth

  • yeah whats the point in getting pro tools if youve gotta buy a mixer. garageband is free on a mac. i've used both and garageband is more practical

  • i love grage band

  • Thanks Buddy!

  • I've heard this can destroy your soundcard? Is that true? Plz respond

  • @Guitarhero0904 Not true. Connect your gear properly (specially if you use an amp - head with high W/voltage).

  • what version of garageband are you using? i dont have those settings? (gate etc) mine is the newest version, where do i find these settings for mine?

  • What about if we don't even have a audio input? -.-

  • @andarsjukir theres some expensive USB ones but that`s all there is I think

  • I dont have an Audio in on my Macbook Pro :( I only have the headphone thing...

    What should I do?

  • @LeonscrazyWorld On macs with just a headphone jack, the headphone jack is also your line in port.

  • Does guitar have to be midi instrument?

  • @KICKSMART227 nope

  • @cpuboy15 do you want some help?

  • I use a 20p 1/4 - 1/8 adapter like you! See what it sounds like in my songs! I think it sounds just as good as my Line6 POD XT Live!

  • how do i do it in Logic exspress?

  • how do you use the guitar on a newer macbook without the audio in?

  • @potatoeskin I'm with you :(

  • Thank you sooooooo much!!! I have been trying to figure something like this out for years. This video made it very simple. :)

  • u need to get a mouse for ur lappy my friend hahaha but nice video thankz.

  • for the new macbook there is no input port..but i figure it out how to make it work..hit my inbox if u wanna know how..

  • thanks for the info!

this helped me with recording from a yamaha p70 digital piano to garageband.

  • this does nt work on new macbook..shit!!

  • @cityofrock yeah it does!

  • Man i saw slash lead in your amp simulation! is that slash's tone, can u get me the presets please! thnx!

  • Don't ever use the suggested adapter ... only in the worst dire situation would you ever want to do that.

Reason: Think of the weight the end of your guitar cable has and the weight of the adapter. You are putting so much weight on the line-in jack that eventually it will break on it's own or you will accidentally yank it sideways whilst rockin'.

You spent a lot of money on your mac, you can shell out 50-100 bucks for a usb interface or a cheap mixer with a stereo to 1/8" adapter.

  • I plug my guitar into Garageband. Nothing else, just my Gibby Les Paul. All the distortion sounds like total shit. Is there any way to improve it or no?

  • is there any free way to get rid of the delay when u hit a string and where u hear it in the speaker or w.e u are using to hear the output?

  • Hi, very important question!

Do you know if Imacs have the same connexions? Or is it just macbooks?? :S

( i mean the jack cable connexion )

    Thx

  • I don't have an audio in on my macbook. I'm trying to use a pro tools interface but I can't seem to be able to hear anything but clean sound. what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks...

  • @setmedic hit my inbox..i maybe able to help u.

  • muchas gracias

  • yes, mac only

  • Slash background :D

  • Nice Tutorial!!!

  • how come i dont get the guitars option i only have acoustic guitar and bass and drums i have all of them BUT electric guitar WTF. ok i had it but then when i clicked on metal it said that i needed an update. well i updated it. now it doesnt give me the guitars option. what do i do?! =/

  • Perfect vid.

  • Yo thx! I need help cause i dont receive the hissing sound so idk wat to do! please someone help

  • Good video mate, but to be honest, I would use any of the presets in Garageband for guitar. The sounds aren't good at all. Very digital sounding and not convincing at all.

For bass it is great though and I would recommend going straight in and using the built in pre-sets. Just not for overdriven or distored lead or Rythmn guitar. Your much better off with a decent multi-fx or series of pedal or even better, mic up your amp and go through that.

  • Very helpful.. thank you!!

  • I have the new macbook and it dosnt have an audio in, what should i do?

  • Is it the aluminum one? If it is I think the line out is also the line in port.

  • thanks dude this was good help.

  • this is only for recording.. or you can connect guitar - mac - and amplifier or speaker so you can like create a beat an then play with yourr guitar over it to use that effects?

  • obviously someone who knows nothing about guitar playing

  • I Love This !!

    Thanx A Lot ! <3

  • lol slash fails

  • its slash.

    page haves a red G-1275.

  • i dont have any of them settings everythink s blank. im not sure why? does any one know how i can get them?

  • When I use my guitar, and start recording what I play, when I play it back I can hear a bunch of fuzz in the background. How do I get rid of that?

  • Use the noise reducer

  • thanks bro this is very helpful

  • Is that Jimmy Page or Claudio in your background?

  • slash

  • Page

  • no its slash look at the hair and the top and the leather chaps and the cloth

  • Page has an afro ? leathers and a cloth in his back pocket ?

  • This is the godfather of Rock, Slash himself !!!

  • jimmy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Slash

  • is that a stereo or mono 1/8??

  • Can't wait to get my mac and use this. AWESOME!

  • any gargeband for windows

  • i use my rp 250 pedal with it. i choose no effects in garagband and just use the rp250 for the effects. works great.

  • haha i use the same :)

  • @vwbaker Dude... a pod sounds really good!!

  • @vwbaker wow, thats cool. So can you use a whole pedal board with this?

  • will this program notice a interface or a usb pedal like my digitech rp 150 becase iv been thanking about getting a mac and did now this program came with it cool now i know micrsoft sucks time to change lol

  • ∆∆∆∆∆

  • ive got a question ... how do you fade in and hade out stuff on garage band i cant figure it out

  • in the spot on the left where you see your instrument, there are buttons next to it. bress the button with the arrow pointing down. there you get a complete overview of the volume. click on the green line to add dots and control the volume. up is louder down is softer.

  • I can get it to work, but there's a pretty big delay between me actually playing a note and it coming out of my mac. Any tips on how to get rid of this delay?

  • The more effects and amp simulation you have on the greater the delay. Use less effects of turn off monitor while recording. To get rid of the delay completely you need to purchase an external audio interface such as the apogee duet (google it).

  • i plugged everything in , how come i can't hear my guitar?

  • this happend to me all the time, it turned out that i just didnt hav monitor turned on, hope this helps

  • turns out it was the cheap 1/4 to 1/8 jack that i bought

  • o lol

  • @lonewolf604 just to say try pulling your 'adapter' out of your line in socket ever so slightly, mine only works if its hanging out a bit! But you can hear what it sounds like on my songs.

  • @lonewolf604 You've got to select "on" in the "monitor" menu.

  • @lonewolf604 You must on the monitor :)

  • @lonewolf604 Your moniter is probobly off. Check the amp settings

  • is the cord directly to the guitar or through a amp and or effects pedal?

  • Get Amplitube or Revalver and you'll be much happier

  • i have both but how do i open them in garageband

  • so this is pretty much better than having any amp?

  • id think so you can do all this stuff but theres a catch you cant move around your desktop like you can your amp :P

  • i'm going to get a mac book for garage band

i was wondering. how do u hook up your guitar amp to garageband??

so you can get the same tone from your amp onto garageband?

  • Easiest way is just to use a microphone.

  • It sounds great using the microphone, but it works so much better plugging it in.

  • i havnt got guitar it just says acoustic guitars?

  • thanx alot man

  • Thanks man. I love you!!!

  • Thanks can you show us how to play along and solo with a backing track PLEASE! Great vid appreciate it!

  • hey man, awesome video thanks,

one question though, about the adaptor, is there anywhere else I could buy it?

    thanks

  • I've been trying to figure this out, thanks for the video. if I have questions, I hope you'll be available sometime to answer them. Thanks

  • (sorry my english please) Hey Thanks , but i have a problem, when I connect my guitar and i recorded, i send the song to iTunes and soon to my iPod. All the Real instruments (Track) is only listened to by a one headphones (left) and te soft ware instruments track is lestened by the two headphones. then i bought a stereo adapter because the one that it had previously was mono. but the problem continues. what i can do? Please Help Me!

  • Good Vid! thx! oh and Awesome Backround! Slash 4 life :P

  • thank you

    very useful info

  • Thanks so much! Unfortunately my string broke as i did this so I need a new one tomoz!

  • thank you. it was the small things i couldn't figure out ha.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

  • is your guitar directly connected to the computer or does it go through an amplifier as well?

  • Great instructions, thanks - I have mine working but i am not getting the guitar signal in "stereo" - only coming through left side and the track volume also shows only one level - "mono"...???

  • go to input under track menu and switch to channel 1 (mono)

i dont know why the volume would only show one level.

  • Use a USB interface or else you will get too much lag. The Amp modelling is awsome in garageband British gain is sweet.

  • there is no amp involved. you are using garageband as the amp.

  • Hey man. Do you connect it directly, or through an Amp?

  • nevermind i figured it out for those who are not getting any sound make sure your monitor is turned ON!!

    NEXT TO INPUT SOURCE!

THIS HELPS A LOT HOPE I HELP ;)

  • i did exactly what u said why am i not getting a hissing sound

why isnt this working help me plz

  • can you do this on a pc?

  • nope. it is slash from guns n roses and velvet revolver.

  • the adapter is exactly what he said there isn;t any specific name

  • Is that Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria on your wallpaper?

  • does the adapter need to be one specific to guitars?

i have one that is made for headphones and idk if thats the reason this will not work for me....

  • I dont know what the deal is, good or bad...but I set it up exactly as you explained yet i dont get a hissing sounds? Is it not connected properly or what...? Thanks for the post btw.

  • HOly son of a biscuit i have been trying to find this forever. Why is this so f-ing hard for somebody to explain. the help built into garage band has nothing on just how to hook up the damn guitar. thank you!!!!!!!

  • Short video ?

  • good information for biginers thanks

  • thanks

  • I get a delay of about 2 to 3 seconds of sound from my guitar to my computer. Does anybody get this? Is it my cord and is there something I can do from garageband that will correct this? PLEASE THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!

  • Its called "Latency"... Which all in all means your computer cannot process the incoming signal fast enough so there is a delay of 2-3 seconds from when you play a note, until you hear the note... Some solutions to this would be: Get a faster computer, Buy a Multi-track recorder (which records on a DEDICATED recording device and not a multiple task computer), OR install a firewire card and use that :P Hope this helps :D

  • you can have both the guitar and mic connected at the same time. however, i would lay down the guitar track first, and then lay down the vocals.

  • so can you hook your guitar up to the builtin input and then have a usb mic for vocals?

  • TY!! :D

  • this is a great post, everything i wanted to know!

    thanks!

  • Ah, man, thanks.

I was wondering what kind of input I'd need to get this working.

PS, where'd you get that wallpaper? It's awesome!

  • Yeahh.. thanks so muchhh... You should me everything i needed to knoww..

  • hey man thanks so much!! you are a great teacher!
