Hi JNagarya, Religiobigots, ha, that's an interesting wordcreation. I don't like most of the evangelical Christians in the US. They are Religiobigots, thinking the US and especially Israel are the promised land. By the way, do you know, if Chapman is free already? Maybe they let him out secretly with a new identity. Anyway, I think his main motives were not religious, but envy and as they say, "if you can't be famous, kill somebody who is famous."
Thank you TCfoxs. This had to be said, because it's the truth. I love the Beatles more than any other Band and I cried when the 2 of them died. But the real Jesus is greater than them. After more than 2000 years, Jesus is still loved and respected by innumerable people. He offered eternal life to the ones who believed in Him and He died for this statement that He was the son of God. Long live the Beatles and their dedicated wholehearted followers. But to live forever we need Jesus.
John Lennon was right at this time when he said that, "the Beatles meant more to the kids than Jesus Christ". One of the reasons was, that most of us only knew the churchy version of Jesus. We only knew about him from the churches in a conservative, konformist way, but that's not what Jesus was and is at all. He lived quite a revolutionary drop out live and caused just as big a stir as the Beatles and still does by changing peoples life completely if they receive His spirit into their hearts.
@skykiss12 None of the comments on Lennon's comment on Jeses and religion have a clue. The fact is that he made that comment, in Britain, during and interview ABOUT KIDS IN ENGLAND. It had nothing to do with the US. And he was correct.
The problem was created by a media that took the comment out of context, and religiobigots who ignore Christ's preaching TOLERANCE. Mark David Chapman was one of those ignorant religiobigots.
No need to get hysterical, let me break this down to an even more basic level. I state the population of the earth is about 200 people, give or take a half dozen, am I stating a fact?
This is what you desperately need to understand, so write it down. There are no facts for me, there are no facts for you, there are just facts, that are true no matter who you are, when you learn them, how you feel about them. A false understanding of facts is opinion, or something less, but it is NOT fact
I think geniunly they were bigger than jesus and god!! The only bad thing was that they had said it in front of an American crowd (supposedly)!! Which tbvh was the best thing they ever said because everybody knows and dont like to admit they were bigger and better without a doubt!! Sorry to say if i had a choice between jesus and the beatles i know what i would choose!!! Wait for the enslaught!! (if that's how you spell it haha)!!!
@onlyoneoasis what Lennon meant, as he later said, was more people went to Beatle concerts than church, showing how unstrustworthy the church had become and how times were changing and the old traditions had to change if churches wanted more people
@QueenBeatlesWings - I love the Beatles as much as anyone else, but if that is what Lennon meant, he is of course wrong. With the possible exception of church attendance in the uk, church attendance in the early sixties in the US and Western Europe was much larger than today - in the US tens of millions attended church weekly, the Beatles were popular, but never drew anywhere near those numbers over there entire career
@mollkatles Actually John Lennon clearly stated in an interview later that amongst kids and teens the Beatles were "more popular than Jesus" in the U.K. His statement wasn’t exactly news worthy as in fact church membership was falling off amongst the British public since the end of WWII. He wasn't the only on talking about this at the time in the U.K.
""Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue about that; I'm right and I'll be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first—rock 'n' roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me""
Lennon didn't state that he felt this was a good thing, he simply stated it as his observation of the facts!
@mrekbass - you are wrong on all counts, make notes as I lack the patience to repeat.
The number of Christians is growing (Africa, Asia - most notably Korea). Are you saying all disciples are thick and ordinary, including Paul, how does your intellect match up against his do you think? what might everyone else, Christian or other think of this comparison? John Lennon did not state an observation of the facts, he stated an opinion, maybe a joke, but not facks - understand now?
@mollkatles ""you are wrong on all counts, make notes as I lack the patience to repeat.""
Fuck you! I did not state my opinion whatsoever. Nor did I alter Lennon’s words in anyway!
Merely answering a question with all quotes from Jon Lennon doesn’t earn me a scolding from an unnecessarily riled up ideologue! If you can’t accept the fact that these were facts to John Lennon, send a letter to one of his family members! If you are ignorant of British history than go crack a book, asshole!
