  • Oh WOW! I just joined a swap that's doing junk journals & was hesitant on how da hell am I gonna come up with a creative idea.. and Whallaaaaa found your tutorial! YAY!!! but I got a quick question.. can this be used on cardboard? chipboard? cereal box? TFS!

  • beautiful work, the colors for the book is what depend you gonna wright green nature red is love

    or just what you like

  • I personally think it would look best using warm colours or cool colours separately if ur doing this, just my opinion but yours looks awesome too I love it :D

  • @36chocolas Well, art is part experimentation, part beauty, part whatever you want ;-)

  • Love this!! So many things you can do! Picture frames, ugly book covers, wow .. thanks for this idea!!

  • could i do this on a canvas?

  • joint compound...can I use gesso..is it something like gesso?I dont understand what is that joint compound...im from serbia...I dont know that we have that in our store

  • @SuperSvilar

Gesso and Joint compound are two different mediums (that is, if you want to call the compound as a medium). Joint compound is commonly found in construction/home improvement projects. Its purpose is to fill in the gaps of the wall when two pieces of sheet rock/drywall/plasterboard/etc. are put together. For example, drywall put together will create a gap in the corner that needs covered with the compound.

  • @starveil101 @starveil101 I found a site that names the product in different countries: " 'Drywall joint compound' in the United States, 'Drywall filler' in Canada, 'Joint filler' in the UK, 'Fugenmasse' in Germany, 'Joint finish' in Australia.

As for Gesso, it is to prepare and cover a canvas and smooth it out before painting (and probably for other surfaces that I have not tried). Hope that helps! :)

  • @starveil101 It would not let me post the website, but it was from ultimatepapermache. com /paper-mache-clay/ the-joint-compound-problem

Take out the spaces in the link above if you want to visit the link (I added them so I could paste it)

  • @starveil101 This is great, thanks for sharing!

  • Love it, thats is so creative!!

  • excellent ...I love this :)

  • Does the plaster fall off after a while??

  • beautiful before and after. i like watching the colors fuse

  • I can hardly wait to do this!

  • hello! What exactly is the white gel that you expand after yellow?

  • I love the music and the art ideas here!

  • i love your tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my art teacher loves my painting (i used many tips of yours

  • This was 2 min, not 1.

  • you only showed the finished product for one second! I know we can rewind, but jeez.

  • I did this last night, but the joint compound dried with cracks in it. Any ideas?

  • How well does that joint compound hold up? Does it stand up to a lot of handling of the book? I love the look!

  • @parsonsdaughter It holds up well! After all of the layers of medium there is a ton of protection. I would be careful with any delicate peaks of texture though they could be vulnerable to breaking. However, I personally don't mind a journal that looks like it's been handled a lot. Thanks for the question and comment, happy creating!

  • wow this is simply fabulous

    will surely try

thank you so much for sharing...

  • Just one word for it! AMAZING !!!!! Will copy! Thanks for sharing!

  • What a fun technique. Love the logo at the end as well. Thanks!

  • I LOVE the logo at the end. :)

  • Love the (new?) logo at the end.

  • beautiful!

  • Cool :)

  • Cool :)

  • love it...=)

  • That is really awesome! I can't wait to try it. I love all your videos, keep up the amazing work!

  • Thats awsome, but does it make your journal heavy?

  • @LusciousApril I don't think so. But if you're concerned about weight, you may be able to create different textures with paper mache, it is VERY light and could yield similar results. Thanks for the question and comment!!! Make it a creative day :)

  • @theoneminutemuse Paper mache... is that like the tissue paper used for gift bags? I'm in the middle of my first art journal ever. I vowed to use materials I already have at home for this first one... I've been wondering what to do with the cover of the artist sketchbook I got for this adventure and I liked your idea very much, but it means buying new materials... however, I do have tissue paper for gift bags. Would that be enough?

  • @Wallylex

You could also use just newspaper. I work with it all the time when doing paper mache. :)

  • Yep .. I like .. that's my kinda playing. TFS

  • Love this!

  • fun!! love your videos :-)

  • most awesome... and I just happen to have a container of it too! :D
