Frusciante's playing on Blood Sugar Sex Magik was genius, but when he re-joined the band after One Hot Minute he really fizzled in my opinion... Not that he's bad by any means but I don't hear the kind of creativity coming out of him that could be heard in the earlier days of RHCP.
It always drives me crazy how many B-sides the Peppers have that could have taken the place of worse songs on their albums. I feel like they could have been a whole different band by now if they had this song on the record.
Agree with Bayview05, John is my god, I prefer him than Navarro, but I think Dave did a really good and beatiful job in the One Hot Minute album and ture. People that burn Dave Navarro should listen to some stuff of 1994-1997. Of course, John Anthony Frusciante is perfect.

Anybody can just randomly jam, but for some reason when Frusciante does it, you fanboys just lap it up. Anything off of One Hot Minute can DESTROY anything off of Stadium Arcadium, and thats a fact. Oh, and another note: the reason that anything from OHM is never played in concert is because the oh-so-mighty Frusciante has admitted in past interviews that some of the songs are "too complicated." Oh, but I thought Fru was capable of anything, right? He's a master of guitar, right? Oh please.
Well, I just hate when people go on ranting "Oh John is so great" and go off insulting Navarro. THey are both just about equal to each other, I dont know why people prefer to support John and burn Dave.
People prefer John to Dave because John fits in with the band more than Dave did I do like OHM but with John the band seems to have better chemistry together. As for OHM songs being "too complicated" for John thats not the case its not that he cant play them he doesnt want to because it was while he wasnt there when he was going through a bad time in his life he also removed his solo albums from store shelves because he didnt like the reasons that he had for making them
I WISH every guitar player could Jam like John! Shit! Can you imagine how great that would be! I'm not too sure why everyone else loves John, But I get off on Passion. I just don't see as much of that from Navarro. Also man, I'm not trying to stir up old arguments but John has never said that. He still says to this day that he has never heard anything from OHM and that he's not interested in ever hearing it. He would have no way of knowing the "Difficulty" of the music. Navarro's great too.
OHM was a superb album, and for me the Chili Pepper's last. They only went down after the turn of the century.
As for Dave, yeah he was far better for Jane's Addiction. He was more suited to the way they played. But he helped the Peppers come out with the masterpiece that is OHM, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Though Dave Navarro might have some character flaws(we all do),(I did read Scar Tissue), he was trained to play the guitar by Joe Satriani, aka he is one of the undisputed elite players.
in all honesty this sounds like Flea wrote it if you read Scar Tissue you find that Kiedis was too into drugs that he barely had any input in writing songs and lyrics. lyrically and chord wise this sounds like something flea would have written I woudln't be surprised if he did.
yeah, anthony was stoned one day he left, tried to get clean, came back some time later and found that Flea had written a lot. I remember that he said Flea wrote the Deep Kick intro and most of the song, the only part of the song anthony wrote was the "I remember, ten years ago" part and after that, which sounds like a different song.
omg reeading back on these comments your like a broken record with your "in scar tissue, anthony Even addmits little imvolvement why does everyone have to quote that dambook!

ive read scar tissue man... sure, ak was deep in his drug phase but that was were most of his lyrics came from..thelyrics sound like ak's style of writing
I have to honestly disagree Kiedis even wrote that he had very little input lyrically in that album and Flea himself admits he had written lyrics and chords to songs such as Walk about, Aeroplane, Falling Into Grace, and had to do back up vocals to cover for the leaving of John, and come up with vocal melodies to Anthony's lyrics.
to be honest i cant see flea writing these lyrics...fleas drug experiences, compared to kiedis, werent as dark and i just cant see it...especially that spoken verse at the end. But, on the contrary, i did read that kiedis had very little input in ohm, so you do have validity in saying that
Flea is such a spiritual person, I have heard three tracks from his unreleased solo album he can write stuff like this if not even more spiritual. they're floatin around youtube look hard, its sad he talks about the divorce of his first wife and missing his childhood and how lonely he felt. It bummed me out.
Keidis quoted by rolling stone on OHM in 1995:"Kiedis directs any and all detractors to the album itself: "If someone says, 'This isn't what I expected,' I would say, 'Hallelujah!' And if someone says, 'This isn't what they used to sound like,' I would say, 'Damn straight.' ........The songs we've written and the way we've played them are as exciting and hard-ass as anything we've ever played. good song- but who am I to judge? Our opinions/feelings/dreams/thoughts/lives are just the microscopic cells to the bacteria that we actually are. Its music like this that makes keeps this bacteria from not unraveling.
One Hot Minute was very underrated. The first few times I listened to the CD (after adjusting to the stylistic differences) I was very pleased with Navarro's ability to mesh musically (if not so well) with the band. Any song or riff that he uses the wah pedal, or uses feedback are high quality on OHM. Also tracks with minimalist guitar by him are at the very least not bad. i.e. walkabout, etc.
this song could pass as john frusciante playing... same with a whole bunch of other navarro songs, one hot minute is under rated seriously people suck
Whoa, what? Seriously, fretwalker? Navarro is an AMAZING guitarist, for lack of a better word. Shit, RHCP wouldn't have asked him to join if he wasn't. And I won't even respond to, "gimme one song that has a good guitar part on OHM." Ha! That was just a ridiculous thing to say man...
It's one thing to not care much for his style, but to say the things you've said about Navarro's playing and ability is ignorant and just...well...stupid.
daddydenko - I feel exactly the same. One Hot Minute remains my favorite and most influential album of any band.
You can tell there was so much work put into it, especially by Dave. As you mentioned, every tone, chord, transition - every nuance - just sounds so well-thought out.
I'd love to hear the four of them together again, but sadly, I know I won't see that happen.
@DottyLomax think what you want.. but i mean that album was fantastic.. but im gonna have to say your wrong... listen to blood sugar and then listen to mothers milk. they totally changed from like hardcore punk/metal/funk to alternative/punk/moderate rock awesomeness.. RHCP for life
@Bayview05 my head is SO far up frusciante's ass. but inside of it i see that dave joining was the best thing for the band at the time and they made a decent album (aside from what the critics say). He held the band together during the rough drug filled time and he is a great guitarist, just with a different style. HOWEVER, I would have to say frusciante is a bit more skilled than Navarro
You've certainly said some dumb shit thus far, fretwalker.
"Shredding goes against everything that music is."
Dude, music is what you make of it. Get your head out of your (and Frusciante's) ass and realize that.
And as for Frusciante - I couldn't care less for the guy's playing (at least nowadays, anyway). But I wouldn't dare say he "SUCKS", because he doesn't. He just doesn't play to my liking is all. If you had said that about Navarro, you wouldn't be catching shit like you are now.
I kinda agree with ByTheWayBecca, Dave Navarro was a good guitarist; but his style just didn't go with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante is an Amazing guitarist, his style suits them best.
i don't think navarro was as bad as people say. he has just a different style of playing, that's it, though i like john better (and of course hillel, too)
There's no way you can compare Navarro to Frusciante. As for Hillel I'm not sure, I bet only a few people would be willing to study his guitar playing.

and i listened to those songs. their not that great. listen to ANY of johns stuff.

john shreds as well lol
joeyjoejoejnrjohnson 3 years ago
not much. he doesn't rely on it to make him seem good like every other guitarist that shreds.

Get your head out of Frusciante's ass. Navarro is just as skilled as John, if not more.
Bayview05 3 years ago 2
that is a lie. john is one of the best to do it. dave can write stuff but when put on the spot to improvise, he fails.

god dammit
every single guitar part in one hot minute is a beautiful chord progression, or maniac guitar solo...with all differing colours and sounds...
awesome album with densely layered guitar parts lines
i love all 17 songs that came of out the one hot minute era...cant get enuff

daddydenko - I feel exactly the same.

RHCP for life

get your head out of dave's. :P

I kinda agree with ByTheWayBecca, Dave Navarro was a good guitarist; but his style just didn't go with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante is an Amazing guitarist, his style suits them best.
flea127 4 years ago
actually they both are.

I love this song! the only thing is that Navarro
and the Chili Peppers just didn't click. i think it's
just because Dave has a different playing style
than what goes with the Red Hots.

iew. no hes not. john frusicainte is.

i don't think navarro was as bad as people say. he has just a different style of playing, that's it, though i like john better (and of course hillel, too)
chgirlmadeofchilis 4 years ago
There's no way you can compare Navarro to Frusciante. As for Hillel I'm not sure, I bet only a few people would be willing to study his guitar playing.

this is song is pretty ridiculous, and by that I mean... OHM keeps on giving--OHM forever!
