Sounds terrific. I see from your other vids you also have an AES 1500 in your collection as well. I am thinking of getting that or the SA2200 (although eventually I may get both!). I haven't been able to try one out as I can't find a music shop that sells either.
Which do you prefer to play and which is the more versatile instrument?
As per your question I prefer SA2200 and that is why AES1500 is for sale now.
Please do not get me wrong, both guitars are great. The best bet is to try them both, which is difficult in your case, I understand, and then decide which one you like the best. Just to compare, SA2200 feels like Gibson ES 335 and AES1500 is kind of like one of those Gretch guitars.
@Rotte02 Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you... I am really flattered and pleased. You know what, you do not have to wait 10 years since you are already playing well enough for people who listen to you to have fun and some of them dance listening to your music. That's the biggest achievement. No matter how good your technique is the vibe is what gets to people and you have the vibe.
@WhatWasItYouWanted Thank you very much for your support and kind words! The feel is what I am after. This is the best to realize that the vibe clicks in with people!!!
@Zuhzuhzombie I think your words describe it really well, petite and fat indeed. As per my taste the neck is a bit fatter than I would normally want. However, I like this guitar very much and learned to appreciate its neck profile.
Thanks for uploading this video, it sounds great! I play a Gibson ES-335 copy, as I love blues music. In the new year I'll be getting an AER Amp, but I'm yet to decide whether or not to get the Compact 60 or the Acousticube 3. I've heard a lot of good reviews about both, but was wondering if it's worth paying the extra £1,400 for the Acousticube. What do you recommend? Is the Compact 60 loud enough for outside gigs?
@Gjameshill Thank you for your comment! As per your question: AER Compact 60 is the only amp I use since 2003 for small to medium size gigs. It is loud enough, though at higher volumes can be a bit harsh. I also tried AcuostoCube2 and to my taste other than 100 preset processor and 100 Watts versus 60, it is the same. They both great amps for acoustic instruments. As far as an electric guitar amplification is concerned did you try AER's new Cheeky D. amp?
@AlexSeverinetsJazz I haven't tried the Cheeky D, no - but I'll be sure to check it out! Thankyou very much for the advice (and for the prompt reply). Sorry I forgot to mention my name last time. It's Grant. Thanks again.
@Gjameshill Thanks again for your reply Grant. Please let me know after you try Cheeky D. since I am very much interested in this amp and there are almost no reviews available on the net. Considering the quality of Compact 60 I would assume that it should be excellent.
Great tone! Are you using the neck pick-up in split coil mode?
I love my SA950 - the predecessor of SA2200, all the same features but w/ chrome hardware and tobacco sunburst finish. Best guitar I've ever touched, period!
The quality of all japanese made SA-s is unbelievable, especially when you consider what Gibson puts on the market nowadays at a much higher price :/
@mrphyt0n thanks for your comment. As per your question, on this video I do not use coil splits at all. However, all of the pick-ups are utilized in one way or another, since I am switching them constantly. As per Japanese made Yamaha guitars, I totally support you in that hence to this day I did not see better quality in the same price range or even in the higher range.
As soon as I am able I am going to get that guitar!!!! But, for the time being can you tell the chords you are playing? Thanks a bunch and great playing!!!!!
@Robowx thank you very much for your compliment. As per your question: this piece is based on the basic blues in key of C. So the Basic chords are C7, F7 and G7. However, I tend to embellish those harmonies with passing chords. For instance on C7 I can play start with C7 than C\F than C\B flat. trying to stay in C Mixolydian mode, so to say. The same concept is applied to all of those three basic chords.
@Hectrucci2 thanks for your compliment. As far as SA2200 is concerned, it is true, those Yams really rock. I guess they are the best on the market in ES 335 type of a guitar.
Thank you for the complement. As per your question, you are right Yamahas neck is really wide and chunky. Godin Maltiac Jazz has also quite thick neck too. However, since it has flatter radius 16 versus Yamaha 13 ¾, plus longer scale, it is a bit easier to play. Nevertheless, I like heavy necks since my fingers are rather beefy too. :)
You really find Yamaha's neck is "wide&chunky"? Interesting- I have small hands and initially wanted to buy a gutar for classic rock&blues. However, gibson les paul 60s necks etc. felt way too big for my hands... The Yamaha's neck feels lot more delicate (in a good way) compared to majority of other guitars I've tried.. A matter of taste, I suppose.. But still, funny thing..
You are absolutely right, it is indeed the matter of taste. You know which you`ll probably like better than SA2200, I think AES1500. If you never tried it, I highly recommend. I just recently got one and since cannot put it back, what an easy guitar to play. Thanks for the comments about my playing.
Thank you for the good comment and congratulations on your new purchase! I tied different semis out there, could not test this one before making the order, I just trusted my instincts and they never laid me down. What a beautiful and resonant guitar it is! Once you get it, youll never want to stop playing. Enjoy!
The same hear, they are truly the best in quality/price range. By the way, did you have a change to lay your hands down on Ibanez John Scofield model? If you did, what do you think about those ones?
Concerning the Ibanez JSM....I have an Ibanez AS as well and I think the Yamaha is fundamentally better all round. It has a clearer tone, better dynamics and more attention to detail. The JSM however feels more solid, like a rock, as most Ibanez are built very well. Sometimes I feel the Yamaha is a little delicate after playing my AS. What do you think?
Thanks for the detailed and very informative reply. It really helps since I have never had a chance to try either JSM or the original Scos AS200, but always wanted to do that and have great interest to see whats out there. However, I like my Yamaha SA2200 very much. By the way, go you use heavy strings on your Ibanez AS?
Be very happy with the SA2200. It is the greatest axe on the market and becoming more and more rare, Yamaha is cutting down production and maybe cutting the line all together one day! I think it is fundamentally better than the AS series. PS I use 0.10 set with an 0.11 on the high E and a 0.48 on low E , otherwise a regular 0.10 set. And you ?
Thanks again for the valuable information. As per the strings I use, they are dAddario regular 10th. By the way, I tried to put 11th on top, but for some reason I got settled on just regular set. And I like straight neck and a very low action. This baby on the video is set up like that. Its a petty to get to know that Yamaha can stop the production one day. Well, maybe I need to get another one? Sh! Please do not tell that to my significant other :) .
Sounds terrific. I see from your other vids you also have an AES 1500 in your collection as well. I am thinking of getting that or the SA2200 (although eventually I may get both!). I haven't been able to try one out as I can't find a music shop that sells either.
