The Mustang has heads, cam, intake & full bolt-ons, and has run a best of 12.8 so that will tell you that an LT1 motor is clearly stronger & has better potential versus the conventional 302. I'm a HUGE fan of LT1 and certainly LS1 engines as well as other GM motors... I'm a huge fan of Ford's motors too. Both Ford & GM make American Iron Icons!

@goodride2004 You should take a look at an LT1 or ls1 dyno graph and look at the torqe curve. Let alone the peak numbers. My old 95 lt1 6 speed trans am made 310 ft lbs @2200 rpm, but the thing is, I had over 280 at 1k rpm, basically right off idle, and over 300 by 1.5k, and it stayed table top flat over 300 ft lbs all the way to 5k rpm. and was still over 260 at redline. This was bone stock mind you.

An LT1 has high compression, great flowing aluminum heads, decent cam and intake straight from the factory... a good driver can break into the high 13 second range, and an average driver can run low 14.2 second times all day. Still a full second slower than the LS1 engines though... the LS1's are just incredible runners that can hit high 12's from the factory.
@NedacFilms Me and my brother in law both own 2002 WS6s. With stick LS1s (but mine has Magnaflow exhaust and he has SLP) we can get 12.2s. I want to completely build that motor so bad. The LS1 is a miracle motor. I put a 5.0 in my 98 mustang cobra. I haven't ran it yet. The car is too pretty to beat up like that (did a lot of body work to it). I estimate I can hit high 12s or low 13s with it. 1-on-1 I would take the LS1 any day, though. And I am not a GM fan.

@FloridaSnookHunter LT1's respond so well to bolt-on mods. They have great heads and intake from the factory. Just a few mods and a stiff set of gears and you have a straight up Mustang Killer... I remember when they were introduced in the 1993 F-bodies. There was such a huge buzz about these cars. Back then almost 300hp and 6-speed tranny was a very very big deal.
@ztwntyn8 LT1 powered F-bodies dyno less than 240 @ the wheels and 275 @ the flywheel. You do understand that power is lost through the drivetrain? Automatic cars lose even more than manual cars.

I would agree that it's probaly less than 260 but it's not the typical %15 that alot of cars experience and yeah an auto would have more rotating mass. I was being sarcastic aobut 13.0. I have a M6 that went 13.8 @ 100 with a hypertech tune only. And yes, I see alot of 14 sec LT1 cars even with the M6 and autos about .3 slower. So, I'm not sure as to what I was responding to as it's been a long time. I'll watch the vid again.
@ztwntyn8 13.0? No stock LT! will do 13.0 most are low 14 stock, good driver and tire pressure can get them into the high 13 range. Add some decent bolt-on mods and they will run with an LS1 though.
@NedacFilms LT1 owner here. I confirm the above statements. Stock LT1 dynos at about 230-240rwhp, and runs the quarter mile in 14 seconds flat at about 100mph. Some have gotten into high 13s and some struggle to get into 14s, all depends on the driver and the car's condition as well as the options.
@wildbloodydragon You are 100% so right... and a good point you bring up, is the "cars options"... A low optioned (no power accessories, hard top, etc...) LT1 F-body with 6-speed and 3.42 gears should have no problem clicking off consistent 13 second 1/4 mile times.

Otherwise, those AOD foxbodys LOVE 4.10 gears. :) Had a '91 LX for a while that was mostly stock, just headers, exh, CAI, a heavy shift kit, & 4.10s. That car would SLAM you back in the seat!

@Feenyxxx95 well theres alot of messed up 5.0's out there cuz i took down quite a few... at the top end around 100 they'd usually pull past but lookin at the specs there around the same hp and the v6 being lighter than the v8 f bodies the weights were similar too... and it was on drag radials which may of helped too

my bro had a LT1 6sp camaro with a big cam, ignition, rollor rockers headers flowmaster muffler 3 inch pipe. I had a LX 5.0 5sp with the same mods. both cars with stock gears he whopped ass in that camaro I couldnt catch him. they were just cheap mods at the time cause we didnt have shit for cash. it all went in the gas tank stupid fucking gas prices

@FloridaSnookHunter LT1's respond so well to bolt-on mods. They have great heads and intake from the factory. Just a few mods and a stiff set of gears and you have a straight up Mustang Killer... I remember when they were introduced in the 1993 F-bodies. There was such a huge buzz about these cars. Back then almost 300hp and 6-speed tranny was a very very big deal.

@ztwntyn8 LT1 powered F-bodies dyno less than 240 @ the wheels and 275 @ the flywheel. You do understand that power is lost through the drivetrain? Automatic cars lose even more than manual cars.

@NedacFilms yes I have firm grasp on paracitic drag. I would agree that it's probaly less than 260 but it's not the typical %15 that alot of cars experience and yeah an auto would have more rotating mass. I was being sarcastic aobut 13.0. I have a M6 that went 13.8 @ 100 with a hypertech tune only. And yes, I see alot of 14 sec LT1 cars even with the M6 and autos about .3 slower. So, I'm not sure as to what I was responding to as it's been a long time. I'll watch the vid again.

@ztwntyn8 13.0? No stock LT! will do 13.0 most are low 14 stock, good driver and tire pressure can get them into the high 13 range. Add some decent bolt-on mods and they will run with an LS1 though.

@NedacFilms LT1 owner here. I confirm the above statements. Stock LT1 dynos at about 230-240rwhp, and runs the quarter mile in 14 seconds flat at about 100mph. Some have gotten into high 13s and some struggle to get into 14s, all depends on the driver and the car's condition as well as the options.

@wildbloodydragon You are 100% so right... and a good point you bring up, is the "cars options"... A low optioned (no power accessories, hard top, etc...) LT1 F-body with 6-speed and 3.42 gears should have no problem clicking off consistent 13 second 1/4 mile times.

@intangibledc Well, if it's a daily driver that's sees a good amount of highway time, you may want to consider going with 3.73s. Otherwise, those AOD foxbodys LOVE 4.10 gears. :) Had a '91 LX for a while that was mostly stock, just headers, exh, CAI, a heavy shift kit, & 4.10s. That car would SLAM you back in the seat!

It has Edelbrock Heads, FMS E-303 Cam, Trick-Flow Intake, Pulleys, Tune & other typical bolt-ons... its a consistent 12 second street car.

And aside from that, the average 12sec street Fox can also take their owner back & forth to work every day in air conditioned comfort. All that, for less than $10K start to finish.

Man I talk to him at a cruise in one night . That thing had a huge cam sounded like it was gonna beat the fenders off of it. I think it would have loved some spray, but for some reason Nate NEVER sprays any of his cars.
