These H-Bodies (Monza, Sunbird, Starfire, Skyhawk) were very pretty cars, especially the hatchbacks like this one. The fool who says they were POS is probably not considering the fact that they were entry level subcompacts. I had one from 1979 to 1989 and it was a great car. I just bought another one----with the 305 V8. It's running well, so I don't know how soon I'll have to change the plugs. Not looking forward to that if it's true you have to raise the engine. Was that the 262 or 305?
i had this exact car with the 305 V8...the car was pig...ill never forget..if u had to change the back spark plugs..the engine had to be jacked up...what a pos
will someone please explain to me how the door hinges SHOULD have been fixed on the H body? mine went to the junkyard (78 spyder - no accidents) because the car repair shops couldn't get the doors to shut right.
Yeah never understood that perception since a my dad had a 305 with old 327 fuelie heads and a 5.7 inch forged crank and rods with old "smoke ram" intake with a Weiand blower, thing had just shy of 700 hp at the crank, forget what else he did to it but it was one mean car.
I had a 1979 Monza COUPE optioned with the 305 V8, sport suspension, etc. and NO AIR!
It was black with a white interior and I paid $5,100 for it as a new, factory order car. Had a lot of fun with it. They say that the 305 was one of the worst versions of the small block Chevy engine. But it was a great looking, and driving car!
I will be uploading the first vid sometime this week. My vega was a heavy restoration project and is not yet finished. The video will be of the first fire up of the new engine which i made a few weeks ago. I lack doing the bodywork and painting, some interior work ect. The drivetrain is about 95% finished.
I like your monza. I've got a 72' vega gt, I love h-bodies. I have a 355ci with a weiand 142 blower pushing 9psi it doesnt take much power to make these car fly!!!
you can fix the tach by pulling the gauge cluster. there is a jumper or switch on the back of the tach that sets for v6 or v8. The car must have been a v6 originally.
Nice Car.
