@Expelledable Well, technically thats not a threat in the same way that shooting someone in the head isn't a threat. A threat would be god coming down and saying "Im gonna burn you in hell forever, Muahahaha" which he doesnt do. Because he doesn't exist. Herp derp.
Please visit my channel for the unpopular truth about homosexuality.
A person does not need hatred or any kind of phobia in order to acknowledge important differences between heterosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption and homosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption. Even non-religious people know this.
Homosexual activists, with support from the media, have succeeded at framing themselves as noble victims; it's an effective way to push a social agenda.
that is funny! While I don't agree with Mr. Hitchens in his worldview, I certainly respect him a great deal. I hope he gets well and overcomes that cancer, I really do. We are praying for you Mr. Hitchens.
Actually, this is a perfect proof of Hitchens' point. He's just as spooked by voices in the sky as you and me, but he doesn't base his whole life around that fear.
And that's the scientific method. Hitchens doesn't believe in God because the evidence he sees says there isn't one. God could speak up at any time, go "here I am", and Hitchens would tally his evidence once more. Odds are, he'd find it was a hidden speaker, but still. He is open to the possibility.
I can only imagine being such a strong atheist and getting lost in your own words and the audience being the lecturer. then being interrupted by a very real voice when you forget you are in a debate and it spooking you into thinking holy shit maybe i was wrong!
From what I can see, Hitchens thought that it came from his opponent (while not sounding like him), and then he saw his lips weren't moving and got spooked out.
@WastedTourist lol it has nothing to do with being religious. i showed this to a lot of people and they laughed and are christian. i think there is something to be said about atheists who are always generalizing religious people for being bad. like you say religious have no sense of humour or irony,(obviously untrue), but you never say religious people tend to donate to good causes. now that i think about it, saying religous people have no sense of humour is very stupid lol.
Jesus freaks and right wing facist simpletons are already touting that god gave Hitchens throat cancer to stop his condemnation of the church and christianity. I despise all religious people. Fuck your god!
Religious people can be lively, funny, entertaining, talented, well-spoken and intelligent (which doesn't mean their arguments about their faith hold up).
Human nature is just this complex, and all you're doing here is trying to resolve your cognitive dissonance between having to disagree with a group of people while simultaneously appreciating their qualities - so you engage in crude generalization. You should do better than that.
Bye, Hitch. Damn, but you burned so brightly that the light remains.

You've gotta love this guy. What a great sense of humor. I hope he wins the cancer battle and rages on for another 50 years.

Very funny. If only the questioner had said in a deep, sonorous voice, "Christopher, this is God..."

"It just came from somewhere else." Yes it did! I'm as atheistic as can be, but I was spooked by that too, to be honest.

Nah, the voice sounded way too nerdy for that.

The religious have no sense of humour or irony, it's a part of what makes them so insufferable.

@Trouterr If people were to generalize, they would say that religious people don't donate to good causes.

The guy should not have said omniscient, that means that "knows everything". The correct term for the joke would have been omnipresent.
uncypaolo 2 years ago 8
both of which are impossible.
F1dgets 2 years ago
Not for Hitchens at that very moment ;)
uncypaolo 2 years ago 2
He said "came from somewhere else". That doesn't imply omnipresence, but elsewhere presence.
