Oh, I'm just realizing this child abuse storyline is taken from the Joel Steinberg/Hedda Nussbaum story from nyc. Wealthy guy and wife adopt a little girl and, for years, the husband beats and abuses both wife and daughter, eventually killing the daughter w/a blow to her head. Nussbaum was found to be beaten and turned on him in court. Totally disgusting all around.
