@sekisseishi I get the feeling that the black rabbit is their version of god. (yes I know that frith is the sun god) but, in the book it says that he is seen as someone who makes good things, and bad things happen, as he sees fit.
Okay. Well now I can't stop crying... Its something about the innocence being robbed I see. The danger of the world changing their lives. This was one of my favorite movies when I was little and it makes me realize how the world has changed my innocent view on things. But when Bright Eyes started playing.. I lost it.
@LordManda2 u have to read the book to fully understand it. Like what the other person said, he is the grim reaper. But the story is that the prince of a thousand enemy's (forgot his name) went to the black rabbit of inle' tryin to save his people from starving (or some kind of disease) and the black rabbit tore the princes' ears and whiskers off before he believed that he wanted to save his people, and he saved them. WTF was with that black rabbit sequence? Seriously, what was that supposed to contribute to the movie? Some techicolor shadow puppets are bouncing around? What does that mean? Its completly weird, comes right the hell out of nowhere, and no one ever speaks of it again...
@LordManda2 The black rabbit is actually the rabbit's version of the grim reaper. That's why they say when he calls for you, you have to go because there is no choice. That's what I get from it, at least. And remember, this movie was made in the seventies, late seventies as may be the case, but I think the technicolor parts are more for stoners than anything. It's equivalent to the twenty minutes of lights in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Lol.
I think the reason most great novels are depressing is because stories work best with change, and there's hardly a better, more powerful change than what occurs in tragic events.
@TheIntruders Biblical, yes, but that doesn't mean it has anything to do with right wing ideology. While I imagine he's religious (at least when he wrote this) and not a fan of state socialism, the author is a liberal environmentalist. He was a civil servant responsible for saving the Thames river ecosystem and building the Thames barrage (the sort of thing Louisiana officials refuse to build because they think saving the bayou is socialist).
I understand the symbolism in the sequence where Hazel becomes leaves and they start dividing into many more leaves. It means he is destined to live and give rise to many more decedents after he has passed, just like at the end of the film when the black rabbit tells hazel that his children will be fine as will thousands like them. Which he did and I think each man should work towards leaving a long and successful legacy for future generations.
@SwaggaBoyzKeepFlying really? i like bigwig in the show although the big showdown with the genral was dissappointing compared to the movie. still that bigbig was one tough rabbit in the series
I agree with everyone--this is very dark and mature for a kid's film. But for some reason I just don't think it's that depressing...it has some very sad moments, but happy moments, too. Maybe it's just because it doesn't seem depressing when compared to The Plague Dogs...LOL!
i watched this after i watched felidea these r both exetremely sad, depressing and groosem stories but the storyline is so beutifully written and the music as well :D and thats y i ove thsese movies :D
