Hi, where can I purchase these connectors? I'm putting together a solar electrical system and need these items for my wiring. Additionally, I will also need fuse holders and wire looms. Will my local AutoZone or Radio Shack have this? Thanks.
At 1:37 he talks about the hand crimper is not good to use as you don't get a good crimp but he still uses it then says see it is not good to use, and then says don't use the back to back connector when it was the fault of the tool? I used the back to back insulated connectors and with a proper crimping tool. What he should of done was use professional crimper that he used with the spring back handles at time 8:01? You can buy those for the Red/Blue bullet/spade, back2back terminal connectors!
I really like this video. I've now acquired some uninsulated crimp butt through connectors. Trouble is, the crimp tool you say is the best... well I've got 2 very similar looking crimping tools, but they just don't crimp like in your video (with a neat machine like finish). Can you recommend one? Perhaps you've got a brand and model number? I think my universal one is for bigger connectors, and my other, which has red blue and yellow dots, is for insulated terminals only. Thanks.
I'm not sure what the inside diameters are since I use them based on wire gauge. My guess would be that the 22-18 gauge would be around 1.5 mm, 16-14 around 2.0 mm and 12-10 around 2.5 mm. I think the dimensions you have are right in the ball park
What size are those "UNINSULATED CRIMP BUTT THROUGH CONNECTORS"? I want to do work on stuff in car and so mostly need car-wire size ones. On Ebay UK I've got choice between buying ones which are "inside diameter 1.8mm" or ones which are "inside diameter 2.4mm." ?? Great useful video btw. Thanks. (Rooting through my Dad's old gear I just found one of those Lever Action Type Crimpers - which until watching this video I didn't even know what it was for.)
Any heat source will melt the shrink tubing but an open flame may damage the tubing if you get it too close. Keep the flame far enough away from the tubing to keep it from bubbling and it will work fine.
I'm not crazy about taps (scotch loks) because they often damage the wire and usually come loose after a while. I would Tee with butt connectors or soldered joints, much stronger and less likely to come loose during use.
Watertight/ weatherproof shrink tube is available for automotive and marine applications. It has a glue substance in it that will melt and seal when heated.
I think at 4:18 you were using the blue insulated crimp, which u stated it was a non -insulated crimp.

do you connect the wires on the inside the thing you crimp? do the wires need to touch in the inside of the tube before you crimp them?

Thanks, uninsulated crimping looks much easier than the soldering I have been doing for years.
