  • Meg, it's been years....

This is Ken in Cincinnati. I stumbled on this while looking at other videos. I hope I can reconnect with you.

  • I noticed the Ainu designs on the back of the clothing of one person in your ATM, but since the other scenes/people were drawn in a different style for the Kamui artist (I had never seen/heard of "Mermaid Saga"), I thought I must be wrong.

I am very happy to see you have pleased Meg Davis---that was all so long ago on the 'Off-Centaur' label, I thought I had the only one left---and there she is, herself.

    Good on ye both.

  • @Maetel

Rumiko Takahashi's Mermaid series: It's actually called "Mermaid Forest" - a series of OVAs, starting with "Mermaid Does Not Smile", "Village of the Fighting Fish", "Mermaid Forest", "The End of the Dream", "Bone Princess", "The Last Face", "Promised Tomorrow", and finally "Mermaid's Scar"

  • @RedwoodTheElf

Matsumoto did a movie(?) we saw only once (late 70s), untranslated, "The Legend of Marine Snow", about a mermaid (of sorts), involving racial intolerance. But, the 70s---understanding of nothing. We did learn---we HAD to. And ages later, re-watching "Captain Harlock, Uchu Kaizoku", one episode used the same term (when going through some, under an ocean), just once. Never did find a copy, in any language. Data-Bases? 3 lines in English? No, be like "Creation" in paint-by-#s.

  • @Maetel

I don't think either of these anime were done by Matsumoto.

Kamui No Ken was by Rintaro, based on Tetsu Yano's series of novels, and Mermaid Forest was by Rumiko Takahashi.

  • Dear RedwoodTheElf,

I have just now discovered your very fine and creative video of my original folk song. I wrote "Captain Jack and The Mermaid" in 1975 and it has been all around the world. I have never written any parodies of my own song, I did not write The End of The Tail as mentioned here. My song is a very personal one for me and I am very grateful to all who still enjoy it and introduce it to new listeners.

    I love your video.

Thank you so much for making it,

    Meg Davis

  • Does anyone know where i could watch this show? I tried looking for a website..but couldn't fine one. I kinda want to see what it's about......

  • @phonegirl2004

It's Rumiko Takahashi's "Mermaid Saga" (Search for it on Amazon, I'm sure you can get it on DVD)

  • @RedwoodTheElf : okay, Thank you! =D

  • @phonegirl2004 Oh, and there are also some scenes from Kamui No Ken, which is quite different and can also be found on Amazon.

  • (English name of Kamui No Ken is "Dagger of Kamui")

  • It's been a good long while since I have heard this tune from my childhood.

     Thank You for posting, Will

  • Great song.. good times.

Even better though was the parody someone did... Captain Jack was an asshole it's easy to see, all the young ladies tell him "piss off and die" cause he left all his gold and his best friend with me, oh tell him young ladies go and tell him for me, he can freeze off his balls in the cold Northern Sea

  • @SenoraBianca 'The End of the Tail' is that one. That's near the end. It starts with 'Captain Jack was a young man when he went to see - All the young ladies tell him piss off and die - in the blink of an eye he forgot about me...'

And the bridge... is about how the mermaid is only a woman from the waist UP. heh. I don't remember who wrote it.

I remember, though that The great Kanef wrote another one. About how he wanted to STAY with his all male crew, So they made up a story

  • @Wrenn00 As I understand it, 'The End of the Tail' is Meg Davis, too... Same tune, same meter, but actually listenable and funny :-)

  • Brings back great memories of seeing Meg Davis live back in the 80's at The Dubliner in D.C. with Joe Burke. It was such a fantastic friday night that I was sure to go back Saturday to see the second and final gig. Will never forget her beautiful voice and meeting her afterwards....such a sweet and talented person. Wish she could still tour, but my memories will stay with me the rest of my life! Thanks, Meg!
