My son had a russian dwarf hamster that also developed a huge tumor. We used to feed her occasional fruit and veg but she developed a craving for broccoli after the tumor appeared. The tumor had gotten so big that we thought that she wouldn't last long but incredibly the tumor just disappeared overnight and she survived for a further 6 or 7 months. I have since read about the anti cancer benefits of broccoli and its like the hamster instinctively knew. Amazing!
my hamster was fine about a week ago. and suddenly shes gone downhill. shes got a black/purple on her bum but shes still able to poo (lol). and shes started coming up in lumps mostly in a few places. there was one lump near her pouch and it was not lettting her eye open. and one day it burst and puss came out? can someone tell me if i should get her put down or go to the vet. its pretty urgent. her life depends on it. and i love her very much. and she means alot to me.
i was at my grandmas, and when my mom came, she told me my hamster had a big lump on her side. She thought it was a tomer. It looked like that. But bigger. It started on last thrusday. So today we brought it to the vet, to put it down. i cried every 5 mins. but when we got there, they said its too healthy to put down. so they took out some fluid, that was thick and brown. Little Cookie, i hope she will do okay..... : .......(
My hamster had the same thing, but on his belly. I had him for 3 1/2 years, which is pretty long for a hamster to live. I took him to the vet and they said that he had a tumor. I had to put him to sleep to reduce his suffering. During the last part of his life he was no longer active--he just sat there like he was in a trance. I miss him. :-(
All I can suggest is to take him to the vet and spend as much time with him as possible before he goes... good luck.
i thought my hamster was fat at first but then i held him and he has like this huge blubbery fatness covering his arm and his neck and he cant eat his food with his hands anymore and he cant walk that well :( his name is Cheese
Hey I have the exact same type of hamster as you and he has the same kinda lump on his butt.... they kinda have odd shaped behinds anyway but now I see the thing is getting HUGE.... it's clearly some kinda tumor .... not sure what to do because I know there lifespan is only several years and he's about 2 years old.... did you take your hamster to the vet ? if so how is he ?
Indeed these hamsters eventualy get huge buts.. That's not a problem I think, but mine, when I went to the vet, they said that it's a tumor, so the only solution was to get it "eunatazied" So now he's in R.I.P... When your hamster get's about 2 years old and get's balls around himself, it's time to let him go.. :(
Hey thanks for the reply .... sorry about your little buddy .... I'll end up getting this things checked out eventually ... I HATE THE FACT that vets charge so dam much though... ridiculous... it's tough because we care about the little guys but these vets seem to take advantage of that.....
Don't bring it for a chek-in, if it's 2years old and more+ and it has a "ball" anywhere in it's body, (exept the ass it's normal the ass) You should bring it for, getting the last breath..
Hey one of my roborovski hamster has a tumor in its chest, and i'm afraid that it might get bigger... i brought it to the vet and they said that they can remove the tumor, for $600. But i don't want to because it's risky, and there is a small chance that they might survive the operation, so i just want my hamster to enjoy her last few weeks or months with us and especially with her sister:(
I just want my hamster to know that we love her so much
my hamster has a bump too. the vet said shes in no pain but its getting bigger, i'm 12 and shes my first pet and the bump is getting bigger! :( any advise?
Okay, don't panic. Tumors do get bigger and will kill if not removed. You could take her to the vet and get it removed for a high price. But theres 50% chance she will die from the operation because of the medicine that will make her go to sleep or shock. But theres 50% she'll survive but maybe shortly after the tumor is gone, she'll die. The only thing that MIGHT save her is to get it removed. But it's your choice. I know it's a $10 hamster but you love it enough to save it right?
my hamster is 3 now, and he has a tumor on his side, he can't walk and it makes me cry, I just found out like 5 minutes ago and I looked it up. It makes me cry, because my first one died from a heart attack when he was 4, he was old and couldn't walk, and now Im losing my second one, it's so sad
It's ok, you don't need to cry, to tell you the truth, 1 year of a hamster is equivalent to 20+ human years, so your hamster is probable over 60 years old... so they lived a pretty good life...
thats a tumor:( sorry. my hamster had a tumor im real sad. i sent her to the vet and after that i dont know what happend iv hvent seen her since then.i dont know if she is even alive :( and yes there can be a chance your hamster will die if u dont send him to the vet. im a pro ive been liven wit hamsters all my life
To be honest with you... it was VERY hard... specialy after i've left it to the vet so it gets eutanized... but if yours has one aswell you should bring him to the vet so he gets eutanized or else he's going to die suffering from that tumor... Best regards ;)
well just because it has a tumor u shouldnt put it down immediately, they can go without it botherthing for up to a year. you'll definately be able to tell when its time and until then, then just give it the best life u can and make it happy until then. if u can afford it, u can even get it surgically removed for about $400, but theres only about a 30% chance of survival so its best to let it live out life and say ur goodbyes when its time
