  • It makes sense. If you're in a gunfight, chances are you day hasn't gone too well and more things are going to go wrong.

  • Ayoob is a syrian con artist. He capitalizes on the mall ninja's in America, the people that wanted to be a cop but couldnt cut it. And he does so very well.

  • Hey Massab nice to here you

  • carrying a 2nd hangun is good policy if you are serious about defending your life... you have more OPTIONS.

  • Very wise man...

  • I never thought about carrying a 2nd gun, but after Mr. Ayoobs advice I am really considering it.

  • being a cop I always carried a backup. but Massad's explanation here is so simple and so easy to defend that it crystallizes the entire rationale into a very thoughtful and acceptable reason for carrying a secondary handgun!

  • @mrmezmureyz 'being a cop I always carried a backup.'

always love input from LEOs. what was your backup? did u use an ankle holster? what are your thoughts about the 'caliber' discussion?

    thx

  • A recent story I heard Mas Ayoob tell on one of the TV shows recently. A well known pistolero had the EDC habit of three pistols. When asked why

he replied "Because to carry 4 guns, would be ostentatious"

  • God love ya, Mas:) --

  • A man I would not want angry at me.

  • @nemtastic I wouldn't worry about Mas getting angry at me, because he is a law-abiding citizen. He knows very well that anger, under the law, is not sufficient justification for physical violence:) --

  • It takes a Serian family background like him to teach us about how special our guns rights are in America.

That guy is more American than most Americans.

Rock on Massad! He is really a special guy.

Very intelligent guy. Good for the gun rights people of America.

I feel safe around guys like this. Level headed, smart, know their stuff. They write books on topics.

  • @stevenapoleon Agreed:) --

  • You're paranoid. Just in case you haven't noticed yet.

  • Ayoob is the master of the "quart of blood" technique. He can just look at you and a "quart of blood" will drop out of your body.

  • One is none, two is one.

    Nice video man.

  • @perspicacity89 I have both his books and im a big follower of him (unrelated i know) but I remember reading that he is syrian, like either his grandparents or great grand parents came over back in the early 20th century

  • @guid06a1

He has written many more than two books

  • When pretending to be a civilian, I carry only one. While on duty, I carry 2.

The difference? The potential of a gunfight is greater when on duty. I want to be ready for that malfunction. While off duty ( and not a walking bullseye), I will have the element of surprise and trust my one pocket hammerless revolver.

What if it fails? Life is full of what ifs. Carrying one concealed firearm gives me comfort. It's personal preference.

  • @skynug hope you carry plenty of ammo since you're runnin a j frame man. me personally u run a glock 27 iwb and 2 mags. because 80% of malfunctions in semi's are magazine related.

  • hehe... "10 guns gets heavy." I like the way you think. :-)

  • What descent is Mas Ayoob of?

  • @perspicacity89

I never thought to ask since I could care less

  • @GunWebsites You mean since you couldn't care less?

I care because I'm fascinated by shit like that, not because I'm looking to discriminate.

  • @GunWebsites judging by his accent,i think he,s one of them dad gummed new englanders. if i had to pinpoint id say eiter vermont or new hampshire somewhere along the connecticut river valley. im pretty sure he,s american to. me, my moms from italy,my dads from england. know what that makes me?AMERICAN!!!!

  • @perspicacity89 I believe his family was lebanese, Mas himself is a third generation New Hampshirean

  • @MrMZaccone Cool. Thanks guy, for the information.

  • @perspicacity89 .. middle east

  • @perspicacity89 He has written, "I’m of Syrian descent on my paternal side, and Scotch-Irish on the maternal."

  • @perspicacity89 Ayoob is typically an Arabic name. He might be Arabic.

  • @perspicacity89 I forget exactly -- Cyrian, I believe. Not that this has anything to do with his expertise in this field.

  • imo, a guns is already there for an emergency... unless you are in LE, security or military or something

  • @lobzdik

Good attempt in english, however this has no real meaning, just some words.. might want to try again

  • @GunWebsites forgive my humble English as its not my first language... as Masaad talks about carrying a second gun for an emergency, i believe that the first gun is already there for that emergency. To prepare for more emergencies by merely carrying more guns may seem unnecessary... from my civilian point of view, which does not touch on LE, security and military

  • @lobzdik

OK that was much more clear, thank you.

You are entitled to your opinion. We just wanted to get Massad's perspective on this topic.

You decide to draw the line" at one gun, we decide a second is reasonable based on experience and expectations.

I feel neither of us is correct since neither of us is right or wrong, just two opinions

  • @GunWebsites yeah completely agree, i see the man is knowledgeable in his field anyway.

  • @lobzdik 'as Masaad talks about carrying a second gun for an emergency, i believe that the first gun is already there for that emergency'. sure, but if your carrying a 'main' piece, what harm in carrying a little .32 or something on your ankle for backup?. the 'main' could fail (jam or whatever) or could run out of ammo. having a few xtra shots from a backup could make the difference.

  • @richardarichard Mas has produced articles about "not letting friends carry mouseguns." That said, Ayoob has also written that a .32 is the minimum standard for a self-defense gun, everything else being equal --

  • @stevevandien ....' That said, Ayoob has also written that a .32 is the minimum standard for a self-defense gun, everything else being equal....'.

i think that's the point. i'd rather be armed w/a a little, small caliber derringer than not armed at all. that nut in AZ just downed 16 people (i think 8 or 9 died) w/a glock 19.

i maintain that skill trumps caliber. carry what you're comfortable with.

  • @richardarichard Skill ABSOLUTELY trumps caliber. If you are skilled with a .22 (or any other caliber) and can carry it comfortably, DO SO, by all means. Rock on, bro:) --- I recall Mas writing of a client who couldn't handle anything more powerful than a .25. Yet the client became so skilled with this round that he'd INEVITABLY blast an attacker's head at close range:) --

  • @stevevandien exactly. well stated.

  • @lobzdik Clearly you weren't listening very closely. Being unable to use your primary weapon because of malfunction, having it taken away or knocked out of your in a struggle, being wounded or being in a position that makes it difficult to draw your primary weapon are all situations that occur in civilian self defense scenarios (more so, in fact, than in LE). In such situations a backup weapon can save your life.

  • @lobzdik First gun is for an emergency... second is for a supper emergency. You keep a box of band aids for a cut, you keep a reel of guaze for a supper cut. You keep five dollars in your pocket in case you hit a small speed bump, and you keep five hundred dollars in your mattress for a big bump.

  • @VALsacount2 You are not a soldier. Get over it. Now clean your room and brush your teeth. . . . . . Young man.

  • @SupremeAmerican And I suppose you think band-aids and a bottle of water are enough for an emergency.

I could use your argument if you have any kind of radio, batteries and flashlights. You're not a soldier, if there is an emergency you will just need band-aids and a bottle of water. Help will arrive soon.

    Not!

  • very good points that he posed...

  • I like to carry a third weapon to plant on the bodies I unloaded the first 2 into!

    I keed, I keed!

I have actually thought about the arming of a backup person when discussing emergency scenarios.....nice to hear it from someone else!

  • @drukenhard Ayoob has written quite a bit about the primary shooter arming the backup shooter with his backup gun.. He suggests a .38 Special snubby for that purpose:) --

  • Mas Ayoob can kill with his eyebrows. I've seen it at an IHOP, over poorly made pancakes.

  • Don't do "anything you can't articulate the reason for"...........well put.

  • I wish it was legal to carry in Sweden, the shit is about to hit the fan due to the heavy immigration from the middle east and north Africa...

    Ayoob is the man.

    Be safe.

  • @fredde90210 If your country is taking people we'ed be glad to send over a few (million) Mexicans.

  • @faffaflunkie

I am sure "my" government will great them with open arms

  • a wise man

  • Massad Ayoob has an incredible way to mainline logic efficiently to the listener's brain. If you're not a good listener, he has a gifted way to engage you so that you choose to listen and listen well. A more efficient and credible communicator there isn't...

  • @AnAmericanFan

    Very well put, thanks

  • Ayoob tarish is a famous yemeni (Yemen:an arab country on the southern tip of the arabian peninsula, south of the saudis) i wonder how this guy got the name Ayoob????

  • @mnmur22 I would assume his parents gave it to him

  • @mnmur22 It's his family name. Just like Smith or Jones.

  • Sure would like to talk to Massad for a while..... I could learn loads

  • Ayoob is the man! I love reading his articles.

  • I love this guys books my wife got his book on concealed carry for me and I sudgest it to anyone who plans to carry

  • Carry a back-up; you must

  • Massad... My bad!

  • Masaad Ayoob = Self Defense Yoda

  • Makes perfect sense.

  • I love this guy's reasoning...LOVE IT!

  • Imagine if he was you dad?

  • I would be too. He is awesome.

  • Massad Ayoob is awesome. If there is a firearms debate, Massad is the person you want on your side of the debate, not to mention that he's the one who peaked my interest in firearms. Good vid! 5/5

  • @gangstapranksta717 I agree. I was a borderline Brady Campaign advocate UNTIL I began reading Mas. His lucid, logical presentation of the FACTS about civilian firearms ownership converted me BIG-time:) --

  • Rofl I love that quote. Don't do anything you can't explain. If only more people followed that.

  • good info

  • When someone asks me why I carry 2 guns I tell them that carrying 10 guns gets heavy.

  • @ar15guru that reminds me of a quote I heard when someone asked a Texas Ranger why he carried a .45. His answer was "because they don't make a .46"

  • @ar15guru Good one, bro:) --

  • mass is fancy! SHOOT TO LIVE, BABY!

  • thanks for putting this up, GW

  • Mass is the man!!!!! I have been reading his stuff for years.

  • Yeah, he is. I am not sure exactly when In the Gravest Extrme was released, but I remember G & A magazine released excerpts from it for several issues. I read every one, I was 9 at the time.

  • @DandDskeeto That's the only issue I'd raise with Mas Ayoob. "In the Gravest Extreme" was published in 1980. The references regarding armed self-defense under the law, the best available handguns AND the best ammunition are LONG out of date. This book -- OUTSTANDING for its time, don't get me wrong -- REQUIRES an update, three decades later. I'm sure Ayoob is very busy. Even so, I've no idea why he's never put off other projects to bring this extremely important book up to date:)

  • A legend ! great post

  • serious wisdom

    5*

  • Nice Vid. Here's an articulate affirmation for the carrying of a second weapon.

  • Been reading articles written by Ayoob for years. Seems like a really cool guy to allow himself to be video taped and take time to have a discussion. Like him even more. Great vid.

  • The best thing about Mass's articles is that they are first hand accounts or testimonies from court cases that he was personally involved in. Not 3rd or 4th person stories that he heard through the grapevine. All stories can be looked up as a matter of public record. If you haven't read it yet look up the article he wrote entitled the "Marine". It's great read/ interview.

  • I agree. There are so many myths and half truths out there. It's nice to know there are some credible sources.

  • @Springr1911 Couldn't agree more:) --

  • yes this dude is a legend thanks

  • Thanks for letting me finally see the

man who I have read for years.

This video is much better than

    a picture.

  • awesome this dude is like the godfather.....

  • We agree

  • Looking for reviews of pocket pistols now, thank you.

  • Been reading his writings on the subject for years.

  • Us too

  • We love mas!!

  • Interesting and I understant his point however I am cool with carrying one gun with six rounds. the rest I will trust in God...

    Five Stars!!

  • I respect your position

  • What a treat. He's a real legend and a ambassador to this way of life.

  • I feel the same way.. I am very grateful he gave us the time for this video

  • excelent advice and reasoning. now i just need to save up for a back up. thinking lcp.
