I'd love more info. My copy carver was one of two machines that were not nicked by burglars from my guitar shop, but this could make many parts and probably do archtops too. The biggest archtop I ever made was 19 x 25. That is huge by guitar standards. What was you cost? I work with steppers, gear motors, and other stuff and or have done so in the past as an industrial electrician, and millwright. Out here you do a lot of work other trades would normally do. The unions are very weak.
Can you tell me how do you secure the piece from moving? I see clamps on the side. Also, how do you keep from damaging the machine when cutting all the way through?
The router in the vid is a small Bosch, about 20 years old. I replaced that with a more powerful dewalt/Trend later. If you're thinking of doing this in a production environment, it's worth considering a spindle..more powerful, more reliable and quieter.
Fantastic Job, Thanks for the above information you have provided, May I know what type of Router are you using for cutting, I am planning and gathering information of making 8'X4'X6" XYZ axis CNC machine for my Wood working Factory, Can you please provide me some more datils, It wouldbe highly appreciated.
The steppers are 425 oz/in from motion control products in the UK, the drivers are "msd 542" from the same people. I've since built a MechMate 8' x 4' using the same drivers, no problems with any of them, yet!
With the right software, it could. overall size may be too small for a paddle in one go, but it would do the blade and handle in two hits. If you built one for these tasks specifically you would obviously just size it to suit.
@mphel I'd like to build one sometime to cut out and shape guitar bodies, guitar necks, and other stuff such as boat paddles, etc. I guess each new item would require a new program or programming of the machine

@supperstorm MACH 3 AS FAR AS KNOW CAN WORK ONLY WITH A PARALEL PORT , NO ONE ADAPTERS CAN WORK , ONLY PARALEL PORT . TAKE A CHEAP DESKTOP COMPUTER AND IT WILL WORK VERY FINE . I HAVE A LAPTOP WITH PARALEL PORT BUT NOT WORK ANY SATTISFIED .

phildapill85, you will find most people in the diy community will give you a hand up since none of us got to do anything without the help of others. Unless you are willing to pay for the software, then don't bother asking - cracking licensed is illegal.
There ARE OpenSource solutions out there that I think you should consider.

i am new to this is it hard to setup mach3 for a cnc? like how do you tell the pc how big your table is? thanks
toxicfrost123 3 years ago
You set the cutting length of yours axis in the config menu. Then you assign ports and pins.
They have pretty good documentation, and when you're stuck, they have great support frm the Yahoo group, or the CNC Zone group. Best support out there
Mack is a controller though it does have "wizards" for various functions, and a beta
cam program called lazycam. But if you want
to do copmplex stuff without writing thousands of lines of code, you have to get a good cam-
ware.
Jimfowler44 3 years ago
do you use sheetcam?
toxicfrost123 3 years ago
No, I use Mastercam from the community college where I live (I got my certification there)
and save it in my flash drive. There is a post processor for Mach online, and Mastercam will automatically update it to whatever version you use.
