I am Indian(from India) and just marvel at how the indo-caribbean people have not only retained but flourished this form of drumming. I feel so proud to see the indo-caribbean people hold on to these things so dearly. This is the only reason I so deeply wish to visit the WI and experience it in person.
I feel disappointed to see this squabbling between the indo-guyanese & indo-trini people on things like who can play better Tassa! Who the hell cares ? Just enjoy it irrespective of who plays.

A lot of drummers in the past have copied some shots and taals of his and claimed credit for it. What I respect about him is his attitude, he doesn't drink and he doesn't claim to be the "best", some of us feel he is, but thats OUR opinion.

You also got to realize that the original members of Boodoosingh tassa grew up playing drum since small, they come from a tassa family, they have 30+ years in the game. The rest of the students in Lenny's current group only been playing for like 3-4 years (with no background in drumming), but as a tassa group, they have achieved a LOT within the past few years. Also, Lenny changed his style of drumming, its not like what he played in the past.

Just because Lenny is not with the Boodoosingh tassa group, does not mean that he "sucks"; he has about 39 years of tassa drumming experience, his skills do not dissappear that easy. It is very unfortunate that they are all not playing together, but things change over time due to various circumstances.
This is quite mind-blowing. A very good display of talent, but remember this is very strong in FIJI. We call it HUDDA & TAASA and in Fiji its played with lots more energy and its quite vigorous. Its been played in Fiji for over hundered years now and its still going strong.

goatskin rules. you have to show respect to the music by honoring its roots. what matters most is the musician. i watched sookoo-boy roll up a plastic tassa hot and no-one could touch that man. personnally i like the goatskin more because when i play it i feel more connected to it - but when i listen to tassa, i recognize that the musician is much more important than the instrument. guys like dave and sookoo-boy could play a metal pot with a spoon and make it sound terrific.

we the best Major league tassa group train under the Sylvan Bharat style and we got 2 of the best Sookhoo boy and Phantom.None of the them could even play the real boodoosingh hand.that is from UNCLE JOE the real boodosingh only the Major League Tassa group could do it.

not with fire..heat it up with conventional heaters..little portable heaters without thermostats..hummingbird's been doing that forever in canada and they still number one..no complains.

LAZYNES.we live in canada and we use goat skin.lol.and it depends how u heat it.you could get a good 25 minutes out of one heating.representing hummingbird tassa band in canada.
