@theangelboy1111 It is sad, but there is a good side. Elk are nowhere near being endangered. Hunting them keeps the population from growing too large. After all, hunters are limited to when they can and can't hunt. :)

@SuckMyPro Oh, I'll definitely have to try some elk stew! If you have anyone who is a bit hesitant to try elk because they think it will taste weird, give it to 'em in a taco. It is almost indistinguishable from beef and they won't know it's elk 'til you tell them. I have had to introduce elk to several people that way. Their comment after dinner: "Oh, that wasn't so bad. It was pretty good!" Works like a charm every time.

@SuckMyPro No freaking way. Were they serious??? If I had to choose to be an elk shot by a hunter or a cow destined for slaughter I would choose elk, hands down. At least as an elk I have a fighting chance and hunters don't want to chase an injured elk so they are going to do their best to kill me instantly. As a cow, I would be fed crap my whole life then shunted into a slaughterhouse & risk not being knocked out long enough and risk being skinned alive. And people say hunters are cruel?

I think so to and I miss it every fall. I always had 2 to 3 hundred elk on my property until the wolf was shoved down our throats. I have not seen an elk on my property in 4 years and it has been way too long since I have heard a bugling bull. The few that are still alive are smart enough not to bugle as it only excelerates the time before they are found by the wolves and have to run for their lives

This is probably actually Estes Park just west of Lyons, Co. The park gives hunters a bad name because tourists see it like you can just walk up to an elk in the wild and shoot it. Keep in mind that places like this are completely abnormal for elk to live in. they know they are safe so they cant be shot.

Hunting can be an honorable activity if the hunter is an honorable person. I am a hunter, and I can't stand hunters whose whole goal is to 'shoot and kill something' for the sake of 'shooting and killing something'. There isn't anything honorable about that. Hunt with respect and treat the animal with dignity. Know how to use your firearm so you don't injure it or cause the animal undue suffering.
