@debiani3866 i kinda thought so since one song took up the whole side. i still get confused sometimes cause visually they look like 33's,but now that i watched it again, yeah the arm was moving way faster across the record. are 78's more warp proof than 33's? i dread buying 33's as second hand stores cause just about all of them are warped somewhat. i bought a monkees record the other day and the arm rides up and down like a see-saw. it plays good, but im not to sure of the up and down motion lol
@morbidangelofdeath1 There were 33's back in the late 40's and early 50's that were the same diameter as a 78 rpm record (10 inches) and would have one track per side (I have 3 of these kinds of records). the best way to tell if a record is a 78 is 1) the weight (Most 78s are made either out of Shellac or Bakelite (the ones that are bakelite will say so -- like MercoPlastic or something of the like ) 2) if the 10 inch record does not say Long Playing anywhere on the label.
I remember we had the very same record that you are playing. Just looking at it brings memories when I was a kid in Chicago. Like Bob Hope sings Thanks for the Memories
hmmm... I remember riding in a car around 1953 and hearing this song on the radio. that was more then 50 years ago and i had not heard it since..... It stuck in my mind
Although Rosie begrudgingly admitted that Mitch Miller made her a recording star at Columbia, she still didn't like most of the "novelty" numbers he had her record- but he KNEW what the public wanted to hear. After Johnny Mathis' first Columbia album tanked in 1956 {he was initially promoted as a "jazz artist", with jazz musicians backing him}, Miller re-groomed him into a romantic balladeer- a la Tony Bennett and Johnny Ray- and he became a hit in '57!
being 16, and seeing Rosemary sing this song (actually called Batcha Mi Bambino) on the Martin And Lewis show on dvd, was the best song she ever sung, and the martin and lewis show, talk about funny, they were the best untill they split up, but they re united after about 20 years frank sinatra reunited them on a telethon show.
Isn't this just a cover of an Italian song "Botch-a-Me" written in 1941? as far as I know the music and Italian lyrics were written by R. Morbelli and L. Astore and the English lyrics were written by Eddie Stanley but not until 1942. (love Google you can find anything).
Rosemary Clooney often told the story about how Mitch Miller had to threaten to fire her to get her to record Come On a My House, the first of her trilogy of faux Italian hits, including Mambo Italiano. She said that Mitch gave her permission to record Tenderly as a way of making it up to her for forcing her to cut novelties when she wanted to cut ballads.

Also, 78's are less likely to warp (as bad) as what a vinyl record will due to the fact that those records are made with shellac and slate

This song should be "baciami" which means "kiss me" in Italian.

That is rather messed up about Mitch Miller, but I thought Rosemary sounded more Italian then Irish???
Honeykiss7 4 years ago
Leave it to Mitch Miller to hire an Irish singer to perform a song written by an Armenian in an Italian dialect.
But it WORKED!

Mitch Miller did a lot of things that seem strange...but he had his "finger on the pulse of the American buying public." He new what was sale-able.
