did anyone of you know that steve brooks (their singer) formed FLOOR in hialeah, florida? you bet he did. one of my best friends back in the death metal heydays. we used to go to shows together all the time. steve's a really cool guy. much respect to him for what he has done in music and with his life.
i agree completely. torche carried that torch (har har) well on the first LP but their later efforts are too commercial for me. i like that instrumental on (what i think is) the newest one, but that's about it. i still have tremendous respect for them and i'm sure they'll appeal to a larger audience that way but i liked the sound the final floor lp and the first torche lp best.
what you heard was a dirty trick someone played on us by posting mammatus songs on there. it's either mamatus or mammatus. we were sludgy-- against the bullshit that was sneaked up there. i'll let you know once it's fixed and you can compare it to torche's (traitors :)) latest effort (without squiggy) oh yeah do a myspace music search for mammatus and you'll hear those songs you're talkin about. they're really responsible.
do yourselves a favor and understand that Steve Brooks was floor and is now the spokesman of Torche- the reluctant leader of heavy music with melody of our time....time being now.
heavy music with melody? watch out for PILLDOZER - GENERATION Rx... we like to think we picked up where the FLOOR s/t LP left off where you from aluhotnrob?
brooks certainly was NOT floor. they'd been going a good decade before he arrived on the scene. what you may mean (what's true anyway) it that yes, brooks did change them and put them on the map a little more with the s/t LP era stuff.
not to jump in and correct you sir, but Steve Brooks formed Floor with Anthony Vialon in 1992. I was there. A Floor box-set with all the splits/eps/etc..will be out this summer on Robotic Empire Records. 4 hours of shit from 1992 to 2002. Cheers!
i stand corrected. yeah i heard about the boxed set. why don't they make that unreleased stuff from the myspace downloadable or included? anyway, if steve was with them, then how come the vocals on the floor s/t LP, dove SPLIT, and in torche sound different from the vocals heard anywhere before? why was the s/t LP so different; just trying a new sound? i seriously don't detect his vocals in anything else... only anthony's (i presume) please help.
This is Steve, btw. hehe..I did a lot of screaming/yelling in the beginning before figuring out I could maybe hold a note. hehe. Anthony did some vocals too (the screechy ones). We'll have stuff downloadable on myspace once everything is finished/mastered and ready for release.
this is my fourth time to try and respond. my band, pilldozer, is HEAVILY (npi) influenced by the s/t. we tune the same and even rip off the cover a little. check
tinyurl . com / 2wmrj5
just make sure and take out the spaces. we had M and F vox and even added keys just to try and stand out in the stoom/boom scene
why? because it wasn't BRUTAL and didn't have ALL CAPITAL LETTERS and those letters don't look like they're TOTALLY MADE OF METAL with extra lines running from the letters (you know, the death metal font) that render them indiscernable? you'd prefer a cannibal corpse cover. i'll say a few words defending the art; i already explained it. it was inspired by the two floor LPs and om-conference. u'd need 2 hear the music to decide but we don't sound like that anymore. go to myspace/pilldozer
it contains nothing Floorish that's all. music is bad guitar wankery, soundgarden influence at best. Floor is about minimalism and shaking off the stoner tag which you guys obviously embrace openly
If you like Floor....do yourself a favor and seek out the band "Dove" (not to be confused with the floor album of the same name)...features former members of floor, much better than Torche imo
Yeah it has been a while since I have been on it, but I remember the last time I checked it out it didnt seem like much was going on and that was at least a year and a half ago.
Saw them in Nashville with Lair of the Minotaur in a dive bar 3 years ago and my ears are still fucking ringing.
I'll dig around for my cd and burn a copy for you soon...I dig turning people on to them.
you have all the old floor splits and 7"s? i love the brooks-era stuff, sure... but my favorite one is from an old split. it's called something like "when the pigs broke free"
let her drink from it!

Floor's self-titled was basically Torche's first album, since that was the direction it was heading in before the split up and Torche was formed.

Nobody is arguing that, lets not let this be a Torche vs. Dove pissing match
