They’re also giving away a $5,000 annual prize for the absolute BEST entry before March 30, 2012.
I call this a scam machine. Why not just pay a Vet to go around collecting bottles and cans......Oh yeah, that is what a lot of homeless vets do for money. So this machine has cut out the middle man and left the vet with nothing to do. Good job. I wonder how long it will take for a penny to make it to a vet to start a business of their own? How many has it helped so far? They are all sitting on the curb saying, "where the hell are all my cans man"?
@GreenopolisTV Well then, if I was under 13 when I happened upon your vending machine, I would just use my parents' details to register. (Then register again, this time for myself, after I turned 13.) I think any parent would appreciate a bright young kid who cares about recycling.
@EgaoNoGenki We totally agree with your point. Once the law is overturned, we can legally allow children younger than 13 to use the point system without issue.
In Norway every small bottle is worth about 1/5 of a dollar, bigger ones up to 1/2 dollar. Deposit the bottles into a machine in the grocery store, get a note and get cash back or use as pay for groceries/goods instantly in the cash register.
By law any store selling bottled goods are required to give you cash/goods on the spot upun returning them.
@JChecking123 In America you can buy a small bottle for 1/5 of a dollar, and bigger ones are 1/2 dollar to 1 dollar. So I could buy a truck load and send em to you if we could work out a good shipping system maybe we could make some cash on this thing!
I know i'm being ridiculous on purpose to point out that the bottles are not worth that much, they are just giving you that much to encourage you to shop at their store and participate in something that makes you feel better. They just charge you more for the bottles to make up the losses.
@backwardthinker Or better yet how much energy does it take to have the machine sit there all day long waiting for you to recycle? Running Computers and such. It certainly doesn't look like it can hold enough bottles to make a dent in the land fill..
Weve got something like this here in england, we call it a recycling bin and it uses no computers or energy at all. You know, I'm getting the feeling the purpose of this machine is more to massage the Corporate Social Responsibility image of Pepsi rather than to encourage responsible recycling.
@backwardthinker Actually, these machines have existed beyond this project with PepsiCo. The nice thing about the Dream Machines is that they have a charitable contribution for veterans. We always encourage curbside recycling, but facts are that in America over 50% of towns don't have curbside pick up for recycling. Furthermore, street bins are often contaminated by people throwing trash and not recycling in. These machines are helping people correctly recycle.
The short one keeps checking out the tall one's chest. Just to make sure I'll watch it twenty more times (BIG SMILE).

WHAT? Why do you need to be 13 to recycle? Shouldn't recycling start at ANY age? -_-;
EgaoNoGenki 1 year ago
@EgaoNoGenki You're absolutely right, but with the point system that is part of the systems, you need to be 13 to use because of federal laws.
