A great video. What a wonderful player Alan Gilzean was. This Spurs and Dundee legend adorned football for 17 years and yet remained modest and humble. It's so good that he has been honoured in the past year by both Dundee and the Scottish FA. Hopefully Gilly will agree to come down to Tottenham so that Spurs fans can pay public tribute to The King of White Hart Lane.
watched soo muchof this game,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but sadly its the same old crap of Scottish football,no skill whatsoever, People thinking Baxter was a player cause he once trapped a ball, Refereee was`nt wearing a rangers top, but that makes a nice change! Commentary still the same, does`nt matter wot knob does it, it still sounds BORING
Alan Gilzean was an absolute legend at Tottenham Hotspur. He formed two great partnerships, first with Jimmy Greaves and then later with Martin Chivers.
I hear Gilzean and fellow Spurs striker Steve Archibald have just been inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame today (Nov 26th 2009).
Gillie was only sent off once in his glorious career. It was against A.C.Milan in the semi-final of the European Cup.The Italians had spent most of the match kicking lumps out of him until he retaliated. Dens Park May 1963.
He was right footed but he could strike the ball just as well with his left foot.
If you recall he took the odd penalty and free kick and he used his right foot.
I recall him missing a penalty at Dens against Rangers when we beat them.I think it was a 4 3 game. League Cup tie when Penman scored from another penalty.
Great team.
I know too bill because I watched him from 1959 to the day he left Dens.
The flicks by Gillie in this game would have been widely applauded by fans of Ronaldo. In all honesty Gers could have been beat by 10 in this game.Oh to have skills of Bobby Cox and Alan Gilzean in todays team.

Another Spurs legend, Jimmy Greaves, is quoted as saying: ''Alan Gilzean was the greatest player I ever played with.''
You cannot get higher praise than that.

And you dont have to be a Dundee or Spurs fan to enjoy it.

I was 14 and on the bus on my way to Ibrox, when we were told the game was off. The bus returned to Dundee and there we were told the score.
Happy at 5-1 but mad at missing the game.

Great stuff. Scottish football needs a provincial club to come through these days but I can't see it given the financial gulf.
Good old rough tough skillful football!

Incredible performance!I remember Gillie for his aerial power but that was very much all round skill. Was that Ian Ure at centre half?
