LOL LOL LOL ok fair enough its not you in the video, i have competed in combat sports but thats another story. You sound very upset about my comment, im very sorry to have done this to as this was not my intention. In truth i feel the people in this video have not been given the correct tools, i do not blame them but the person who gave them the bag. thank you for your reply i am enjoying your faild opinion on this matter.
I'm not upset, but I train brazilian jiu jitsu and wrestling, and I've trained judo and shuaijiao before, and I know very well that no matter how technical you are, you cannot take strength out of the equation.
This being said, the guy in red in this video is especially technical and scores multiple throws without using strength (only using movement to off balance his oponent), so I think this video is a poor example to make your point.
lol sorry you got me wrong i didn't mean it as a insulte. Your both trying to use brute strength to over power your opponent. When i watch a shuai jiao match im looking at skill not strength. If i wanted to watch that then i'd watch ufc. There are plenty of tech's that you have been taught that could of easly scored you a clear 2 points without falling on top. Look at the engery your opponent was directing at you why didnt you redirect it. I hope this helps.
your remarks make me think you've never competed in combat sports, at least not at a very high level. There's as much skill involved in a ufc fight as in a shuaijiao match, and probably as much strength, too.
I'd really like to see you fight in a shuaijiao match against a good oponent and not use strength.
Only in some cases when the throw comes unexpectingly, but obviously your opponent isn't going to just stand there and say throw me, he's going to resist.
good points blackjamm. strikes do change the game a lot, but if you want to get good at shuai jiao, and get a chance to practice your throws in a live sparring situation, grip fighting is a necessary step.
Excellent hook with the leg at 00:55. This seems to be very much a match of grips, which I consider the boring part of shuaijiao. Hence why I am to be studying Bao Ding style, the fast wrestling. It's not that I don't appreciate the skill in fighting for grips, it's just that I think it is an almost useless skill in a match with strikes. Quick throws and less secure grips combined with more leg involvement in the throw make more sense in a fight, in my opinion.
Pretty interesting martial arts

What kind of soles to the Shuai Jiao shoes have? Are they smooth, or do they have ridges and, bumps like western wrestling shoes?
I would think smooth soles would be needed because of the curcular and, pivoting movements.
MrPotatoesLatkie 3 years ago
We use regular wrestling shoes. You can still pivot since you're pivoting on the ball of your foot, not the whole surface.

This is not a good example of shuaijao. Come to Wellington, New Zealand and we will show you how it is properly done.
raymarteniz 4 years ago
People from New Zealand don't know anything about Shuaijiao ! :p
sha167 4 years ago
Maybe they do? Especially if there are Chinese instructors in New Zealand.
