Alec--yeah, it's a pretty good instrument for $99! I should tell you that I had some work done on it by the best father/son guitar repair duo this side of the Mississippi: Jim and John Mouradian of Cambridge, MA.
They filed down the nut quite a bit, but other than that, the instrument is stock. In fact, I'm selling it if you want it, lolz! I just bought a Carvin 6, so easier than changing strings all the time.
I just always throw different strings on myself. One thing to consider might be having the nut redone if you're going to stay with tenor, but best to probably keep it. I've got this bass ($99 Rogue) back to EADG currently actually.
You are too kind. Thanks. Can't take ANY credit for the lights out practice idea though, totally great Steve B@ailey idea. I really enjoyed his columns when he did them. Great, great player.
Wow ... incredible! You classical guys are intimidating! Great job! Good idea about turning the lights out with the fretless to perfect your playing ... playing in the dark scares me ... I know I'd hit a ton of bad notes! hahaha
hey there Musicislove123, thanks, tuned low to high: A, D, G, C. We bassists call that tenor tuning which one of our supreme masters, St@nley Cl@rke, made famous.
Very nice! I've got a "Bach for Bass" book, but only worked on 1 piece. I should dig that out again, especially for my High-C 5-string fretless.

I've always been wondering... do you need a different instrument for the tenor bass or you just need to change your strings ? thanks nice video.

Keep up the good work!

cool man, try it you'll love it, you'll use something around .030 for a C string. Musicians friend sells them bulk.

Did you use an alternate tuning for the bass? But your playing is great! Intonation's a little off but that comes with practice. Keep playing!
