Robert Jordan may you walk in the light and may the creator shelter you in his hands until your rebirth. I am on book seven and i have to say nobody can wright as good as you. I just wish i had the chance to talk to you before you passed on.
@Kurruptification "i have to say nobody can wright as good as you" - sorry dude but this is probably the most ironic statement I've ever read...in so many ways!
I loved the Trilogy, as did most everyone who read it.
.
I once wrote a fan letter to Mr Jordan, and I told him how much I loved his work, (I think he was just starting book 6), and then I said this: " I suppose people are telling you that you should finish it in the next couple of volumes, but I say to heck with that. You have actually succeeded in creating a world as great
as Tolkien - one that is a little more sophisticated . -Take your time".
greatest epic ever written and anybody unsatisfied with his writing can go and try to compile information to keep a story line like that together. it is the best
I'm currently on book 10, and as a series i dont think its a masterpiece at all. The first four books were very exciting and the fifth wasn't bad either, but six onwards has been a slippery slope into blandness to be honest. The 10th book is so far proving to be the worst one yet. I'm hoping the eleventh book onwards is an improvement. Ive heard the latest one is very good
I love the series, each character has his/her moment, the description of every little detail and the language 'blood and ashes' XD. I reeeeally hope they dont do a LOTR job for the movie, i suppose ill just have to let the wheel will, time to toss the dice.
I'm speeding my way through Book 7-10, the most boring part of the series. Once I get to Book 11, I'm good. But man, I can't wait to see the conclusion of the series.
huge fan of the books. looking forward to reading the rest, onnly getting to the third. trouble finding them though. they are in a lot of detail. almost as much as S. King's work. but this is much better.
A Memory of Light is actually going to be 3 books, the first one being Gathering Storm, the other books' names being tentative. The three books are going to be referred to as 'the last book'
Books one to four were really amazing in my opinion and some of my favourite books of all time, 5 and 6 were both pretty good but theeennnn we had the rest of the series.....Too many characters and soo much waffle, I dont really care about what kind of tea Elayne is haveing or how low the neckline on her dress is! I have to wade through 100 pages just to get back to the only interesting character left:Rand....Why did I bother writing all that?? lol
Valid points, But I am too invested in the series at this point. I have reread the first 6 books about 5 times and the last 4 about 3 times so needless to say I cant wait for the final 3.
Agreed best fantasy series of all time. Makes Feist look like a joke in comparison. I'd say better than LoTR. I think we all forget that in reality those books are fucking boring. Sorry, I said it. And don't come in here and say ASoIaF is better that's silly.
"Agreed best fantasy series of all time. Makes Feist look like a joke in comparison. And don't come in here and say ASoIaF is better that's silly!"
Why do you think that is so silly? A Song of Ice and Fire got a more original story that is more exciting to read. The characters are much more interesting, real and are better written. Its not as longdrawn and got a lot better pacing than Wot without losing out on the depth of the story and the complexity of the world
Disagree. ASoIaF I found boring and poorly written. So Martin loves the Second Baron's War and The Anarchy, that's wonderful. If you like it, that's cool, I hope you enjoy. Not my thing, found it boring and annoying.
The Wars of the Roses was Martins biggest influence.
To say that George RR Martin, a man hailed by reviewers to be a groundbreaking storyteller and an genious wordsmith did a poor job writing is just ridiculous.. Also if we're talking ASoIaF vs WoT then saying that ASoIaF is more boring is just crazy. I can accept that there is a certain level of subjectiveness to weather or not you like a book or not but what you're saying doesn't make any sence.
He can say the War of the Roses was his biggest influence, but that's a lie. It has way more in common with the Second Barons War and the Anarchy if you actually know history.
And I find ASoIaF boring. 20% of the stories seem to be books, and there is to much "he stabbed a dude, then stabbed another dude, followed by another dude he stabbed" ad infinitum for the next twenty pages.
I find it poorly written because it's simplistic and boring. Quit taking offense.
First of all. What would his motive for lying about his insperation be? There is no point to it! He obviously saw to the War of the Roses as a source of insperation. If you have found another event thats more alike then well congratulations.
I've no idea what you're talking about next. "20% of the stories seem to be books"? 100% of it is books unless you have the audiobook, but I'm pretty sure you mean something else. Can you give me a concrete example of this excessive stabbing? (continuing)
Like Ive said how can you find it boring when comparing it to WoT. Now for it being simplistic. Look George is prised for having a very real language with a believable dialogue. As such hes trying to keep these 20 letter words not used in everyday speech som authors seem to favor at a minimum. Not everyone talks like V.
Also I'm not "offended", it's just that your critique doesn't make sense to me. It's like you've read another book.
The Wheel of Time, is the best book I ever read. Unfortunately, here in Portugal, we have only the fourth book. The fifth book has not been published, yet.
The Wheel of Time is the GREATEST FANTASY SERIES EVER WRITTEN!!! Nothing else even comes close. Nothing by Tolkien, Martin, Feist, Brooks, Erikson, or anyone else has ever been written that is as good as Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series.
I'm sorry but CrossRoads of Twilight sucked..... all it was about was women drinking team and Perrin bitching about his lost wife oh and Mat Travelled 30 miles from Ebou Dari....... YAY
@foamulator I agree, and I've read alot of books. Hell that's an understatement, I used to be grounded from books when I was a kid, not t.v. lol. I'm convinced that there is no greater series of books ever written.
Great job on the art! It's awesome, it makes the series better, but the guide, is just crap.:P If it was going to be an animated series, you would have to get Rand's hair right, it's like 3/4 blonde to 1/4 red.
Wheel of time is by far the best fiction series ever written. His charector development and his attention to detail are far better than anything I have ever read.
There is no way a movie could do the Wheel of Time series any justice at all. A trilogy would not even work, there are just too many characters, plot twists, and story lines for a movie. It might work if it was turned into a CGI series that was shown once a week on maybe the SCI-fi channel but it would suck as a movie or trilogy.

my sincere thanks to everyone who've commented on my video - thanks for all the positive vibes! i hope to make a better tribute once A Memory of Light comes out...
It's funny cause I've been trying to read this series for ages...I have the first 3 novels and have only gotten to chapter 5 in Eye of the World. There's so much information in the book and it seems that it requires a lot of prior knowledge to really understand it. Does the story get really good as it progresses cause I really wanna try to read it.
Yes the story gets REALLY good, it is a little confusing at the begginning but you get familiar with the characters, places, history and general plotline very quickly. At least I did. The WoT is my favourite series of books ever! I highly encourage you to keep reading.
The first half of the first book is kinda slow and perhaps a little boring, but it sets such a solid chafracter base for all the other books that you never stop identifying with them. If you can get throught that period you will never want to put any of the books down :)
If you check dragonmount paramount or universal or somethin lik that just announced that they own the movie rights to the movie, let's hope they get it out in a few years
I wanna ask you guys.....Is there any dragons in these books? And I mean like real dragons....not Luz terrin telamon not Rand Al'thor....I'm talkin' about the creature that people call a dragon....I wanna know cuz' I'm still on the first book and I don't know...
Well, later in the books there will be some dragon-like creatures, but they aren't called dragon. I'm reading the books in Dutch, so I can't really use names, because many names have been translated differently.
There are no Dragons. There are giant lizzards that a certain people do ride. (But I won't tell you who they are to spoil it =P) Wheel of Time is different from all other fanasty. EVen the Trollocs themselfs were made of science. its still a fantasy but its much more believeable than most. But there are Dragons thus.. far I have read all 11 books and New Spring several times.
I know, the author guy said if he can he is going to stuff it all into one book, I only hope he doesnt condense it so far that it just sucks and leaves a bunch of things unresolved
He was the finest of writers. He made my life brighter and happier. I owe you my family Robert. If it weren't for Robert I whould never have met my wife.
Coming out fall 2009 A Memory Of Light! It sucks that he died, but at least it is going to be finished. I would go insane if it was left unfinished after Knife Of Dreams!!! I've read the first 11 books at least 4 times in the last three years and I cannot wait for the last book to come out.
That was seriously Kool but i really cant believe hes dead, i just heard about it from this....im an the 10th book.....Just to put this out, he wrote the best books i have ever read and i read about 500 pages a week....much better than JRR tolken or J K rolling
Years of waiting for his nextsh the journey with us book to come out and RJ can't even finish the journey with us. He has a distinct writing style. The eleventh book lost that flavor. I hope they do justice to his memory with the last book
From what I've read from Robert Jordan's forum he made an extensive series of notes and audio tapes about the 12th book. He has shared all of it with his close family and editor at Tor Books, "in case the worst happens." According to Robert Jordan's own words. The choice that remains is who will write the last book. Either his family or one of the editors and writers for Tor Books along with his family.
My bad guys, I just saw the news myself. I haven't been able to catch up on things due to working a lot the last half year, wow. My bad. I am just shocked.
Robert Jordan you will always be my hero and my inspiration, words can not express my admiration for your brilliance and your courage. You will never be forgotten and history will not let you slip away. The great ones do not fade. Your world is eternal.
Man, I can't believe he's gone! This is going to make me feel all sad now for a while. He was one of the best Fantasy writers out there for me and for a great many others.I Hope the 12th book won't be screwed up. R.I.P RJ.
What was, what will be, and what is has already fallen under the shadow without him. His work may be finished by others, but no one can replace Jordan. May his name be remembered forever!
We at P'Noy Ta'Veren Ma'Vron, the Philippines' Wheel of Time fan club would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of James Oliver Rigney, Jr., known to most of us as Robert Jordan.
We also join the rest of the world in celebrating his work. We also look forward to his army of writers finishing the epic that has hooked and bound all of us fans from around the world.
God speed, old friend. Thanks for the gift of wonder!
Lets all hope his wife finishes his last book the way he wanted it to...Man I wish he would have gotten done witting the book and also he was going to come out with a kickass series of books called Infinity of Heaven. RIP RJ
Just woke upped and read the Wheel of Time author has passed on.Bummer!Hmmm..does it mean Brian and Anderson will beg Mr. Robert Jordan's publishers the rights to fuck up his works..by replacing it with next book. Schlmeeal of Slime? Why not....seems everytime a great person dies...their blood sucking family or no talent book hacker's takes over and ruins the persons legacies?Does bleeding the CASH-COW comes to mind.
That was so amazing! Wheel of Time is my 2nd favorite book series, and this was such a beautiful tribute to it! I can hardly wait to read A Memory of Light! I am completely in awe of this! I loved it! Thank you!
By reading several pro and post logs, its fairly clear that the Light wins. The 5th age has clearly positive memories of Rand.
I do wish that the poster of this had gained permission and given credit to the artists behind these works. Most are copywrited, and they are good folk deserving of credit.
heather rocks that is a very true point...but i cant wait for the freaking book..and its suppsed to be pretty big (1500 to 2000) pages...freaking sweet
And I have a question for anyone who thinks they have an idea:
So they next book's title is "A Memory of Light" right? Yes, well if the light is just a MEMORY does that mean that the Shadow will win the fight and Rand lost?
i agree brett, i love wot but i took a long break before deciding to pick it up again and start book 10. more than 25% through and RJ hasn't actually advanced the story at all yet. i'm certainly enjoying it but mainly for nostalgic reasons.
I love WOT series and freaking out we must wait over 12 months. If ya like WOT you must read George RR Martins Fire and Ice series. I think it is far superior to WOT. Am sick of scenes like Elayne in the bath, with the size of the soap, the smell of it, the color, how it was made, here it was made, who made it, how they felt when they made it, how it feels, and excruciating detail. You can skip 3 paragraphs and STILL be learning its atomic weight, molecular structure ad nauseum. Too much RJ!
Jordan is the best fantasy writer :) Tolkien is so boring :/ maby he popularised the epic fantasy, but I don't like LOTR characters. Jordan's characters are so realistic and full of suprises. If you understand polish language try to read Maja Lidia Kossakowska's books...she writes the best polish fantasy :D
lord of the rings is the wrost fantasy book out there and i wish i never read it and what do you mean it began the fantasy genre orcs goblins and elves were inventted thousands of years earlier in Norse mythology
LOTR is the best fantasy book you absolute twonk, with WOT a close second. I'm sure you could write better the Tolkien, and Toliken popularised the epic fantasy genre by drawing on common themes in Norse and Germanic mythology, you nescient, rebarbative twat.
way to be an ignorant fuck head. anyway, the writing, theme, characters, pacing, all of these things are done FAR better by Jordan than by Tolkien, just because he was the first in no way makes him the best, you 'Twat'
I enjoyed LOTR but I found compared to later novels I've read thaat it's lacking in character development. They don't feel 3D enough. I recommend the works of James Clemens, Sara Douglass, James Barclay and Juliet McKenna for good, modern writers.
one of the best fantasy books ever made

I wanna ask you guys.....Is there any dragons in these books? And I mean like real dragons....not Luz terrin telamon not Rand Al'thor....I'm talkin' about the creature that people call a dragon....I wanna know cuz' I'm still on the first book and I don't know...
shtejusna 3 years ago
Well, later in the books there will be some dragon-like creatures, but they aren't called dragon. I'm reading the books in Dutch, so I can't really use names, because many names have been translated differently.
me0sedai 3 years ago
There are no Dragons. There are giant lizzards that a certain people do ride. (But I won't tell you who they are to spoil it =P) Wheel of Time is different from all other fanasty. EVen the Trollocs themselfs were made of science. its still a fantasy but its much more believeable than most. But there are Dragons thus.. far I have read all 11 books and New Spring several times.

Coming out fall 2009 A Memory Of Light! It sucks that he died, but at least it is going to be finished. I would go insane if it was left unfinished after Knife Of Dreams!!! I've read the first 11 books at least 4 times in the last three years and I cannot wait for the last book to come out.

I couldn't believe it when I heard that my favorite author had died.
I became so entranced by the series that I read all 11 books in a month and a half, totaling about 9,500 pages. When I was 14 years old.

Years of waiting for his nextsh the journey with us book to come out and RJ can't even finish the journey with us. He has a distinct writing style. The eleventh book lost that flavor. I hope they do justice to his memory with the last book
paolenzo 4 years ago
From what I've read from Robert Jordan's forum he made an extensive series of notes and audio tapes about the 12th book. He has shared all of it with his close family and editor at Tor Books, "in case the worst happens." According to Robert Jordan's own words. The choice that remains is who will write the last book. Either his family or one of the editors and writers for Tor Books along with his family.

Very nice series overall. And Randland is the most amusing nickname for a fantasy world ever!
somedude221 4 years ago
By reading several pro and post logs, its fairly clear that the Light wins. The 5th age has clearly positive memories of Rand.
I do wish that the poster of this had gained permission and given credit to the artists behind these works. Most are copywrited, and they are good folk deserving of credit.

And I have a question for anyone who thinks they have an idea:
So they next book's title is "A Memory of Light" right? Yes, well if the light is just a MEMORY does that mean that the Shadow will win the fight and Rand lost?
xHeatherxRocksX 4 years ago
im pretty sure that in every story the hero always win. Plus it would be pretty crappy if Rand lost
spencejah44 4 years ago
meh. 'course the hero will win, its how the hero does it which makes it fun to read
itsawooha 4 years ago
yep thats true.

Or that the side of the Light will be helped at the crucial moment by something powerful from the past ages, maybe?

i agree brett, i love wot but i took a long break before deciding to pick it up again and start book 10. more than 25% through and RJ hasn't actually advanced the story at all yet. i'm certainly enjoying it but mainly for nostalgic reasons.
defade1234 4 years ago
I love WOT series and freaking out we must wait over 12 months. If ya like WOT you must read George RR Martins Fire and Ice series. I think it is far superior to WOT. Am sick of scenes like Elayne in the bath, with the size of the soap, the smell of it, the color, how it was made, here it was made, who made it, how they felt when they made it, how it feels, and excruciating detail. You can skip 3 paragraphs and STILL be learning its atomic weight, molecular structure ad nauseum. Too much RJ!
brett4010 4 years ago
Jordan is the best fantasy writer :) Tolkien is so boring :/ maby he popularised the epic fantasy, but I don't like LOTR characters. Jordan's characters are so realistic and full of suprises. If you understand polish language try to read Maja Lidia Kossakowska's books...she writes the best polish fantasy :D
WhiteAesSedai 4 years ago
true that man LOTR is only more popular because they got movies. But i dont know how they will make movies out of WoT because its long

YEs mate, it can. Read George RR Martins Fire and Ice series. If WOT rates as 9 outta 10, then The Game of Thrones (Book 1) is a 10+

Lord of the Rings, simply because I read it first and Lord of the Rings really began the epic fantasy genre
Masteroftheashes 4 years ago
lord of the rings is the wrost fantasy book out there and i wish i never read it and what do you mean it began the fantasy genre orcs goblins and elves were inventted thousands of years earlier in Norse mythology
ohnodavido 4 years ago
if you had actually read what I said, I said TOlkien created teh Epic fantasy genre, I know that he didn't come up with orcs, elves, and the lots.
And I know that Tolkien is not a writer in truth, but a linguist.
He's not that great a writer, but he was a great story teller.
Masteroftheashes 4 years ago
he was a good story teller i will give you that....
ohnodavido 4 years ago
LOTR is the best fantasy book you absolute twonk, with WOT a close second. I'm sure you could write better the Tolkien, and Toliken popularised the epic fantasy genre by drawing on common themes in Norse and Germanic mythology, you nescient, rebarbative twat.
robertodescottio18 4 years ago
way to be an ignorant fuck head. anyway, the writing, theme, characters, pacing, all of these things are done FAR better by Jordan than by Tolkien, just because he was the first in no way makes him the best, you 'Twat'
bigbadbomba 4 years ago
I enjoyed LOTR but I found compared to later novels I've read thaat it's lacking in character development. They don't feel 3D enough. I recommend the works of James Clemens, Sara Douglass, James Barclay and Juliet McKenna for good, modern writers.
