we saw this in class and i looked at my friend and was like "omg i'm crying!" but i would like to say two things about this. one, seeing her as a kid i never expected Ellie to be so beautiful! especially at 1:33! and two, i don't get why they didn't just adopt.
@MsGalaxystars because it fits the story much better. Later one, Russel comes along, lacking the guidance of a true father and fills the shoes of a child in the eyes of Mr. Fredrickson when Mr. Fredrickson attends Russel's boy scout graduation in the end. I dont know why the couple didn't just adopt, but I know why Pixar Motion Pictures didn't incorporate that idea, and it is because of the lesson I just explained. Great movie all together
when people are truly in love with each other the woman dies first everybody else the man probly chooses to die first or are stressed out by the annoying wife until they die xD
The part the makes me sad most is watching them hold hands throughout their entire life. It makes me sad thinking about my own parents who never had this kind of relationship, which ended in divorce. It makes me very angry and sad that my parents never had something as beautiful as this... and it makes me cry even more for Carl having to lose something as beautiful as this.... oh dammit-- I'm crying again >:'(
..I really tried to stay emotionless. I can't. As soon as it drifted to the scene where the doctor notifies them that they cannot have a baby, my heart ached. The end, my eyes teared. That's how a movie, for children or not, should be made to do... make you feel emotionally impacted.
The most underrated of the Pixar movies. But my opinion, one of the best for that sequence and music alone. So simplistic in showing an entire life, and with absolutely no dialogue.
@aug325 Actually, the movie's plot calls for it. If it had not for the dogs and the bird, the story wouldn't be what it is now. And, I wouldn't even trade it for anything.
DAMNIT, I LEEAAAAKED! T___T Proof, I can't watch this without wanting to sob. The first time I watched this was in theaters, and I made the mistake of watching with friends as well as family. They saw first-hand how emotionally invested I can get into a movie, and of all movies it had to be Up! which gets emotional right at the start. T____T I cried like a little bitch... and I got ragged so hardcore for it, too...
Hidethegames you hit the nail on the head, if maths is the universal language, then music must be the universal conduit of human emotion, and utterly conveys the message in this wonderful family movie, even my kids got it too!
You know, I think what makes this whole scene so wonderful is the fact that it has no words. To be able to tell a story that evokes so much emotion solely on the music is quite the magical thing, and I really commend Pixar for that.
I think the reason i cry whenever i see this is because they never got to fulfill their dream of going to south america together, which to me is the most important thing in life. even if they did i think i'd still burst into tears, i just get so sad whenever i'm reminded of our mortality.
I came oh so close to crying, but the only thing that ever made me cry and will ever make me cry in the future was Bicentennial Man, god now THAT was a sad movie towards the end.
fffff the trailer for this was sooo deceptive. I thought it was gonna be really funny and stuff, but.. it's really sad and touched on some really deep topics. ;c
want a real tear jerker? a kid who was dying of cancer (i think) wished to see this in the movies, but he would not live long enough. so pixar sent a guy down with the movie so he could see it... Now imagine that little kid having to see a two people living a long happy life together until old age, then being confronted with death. imagine how the kid must have felt watching this, knowing that his/her time had soon come to pass.
@behemuth Yeah, I heard about that... Her name was Colby Curtin. It's a really sad story... And she couldn't open her eyes because of the pain, so her mother watched it and described every scene to her as she listened.
I saw Up recently for the first time and I have to say it's one of the craziest plots for an animated film I've ever witnessed. But it's also one of the most genuinely touching films I've seen in a while. That seems to be a very hard thing for filmmakers to accomplish these days...I'm not sure I was in love with having dogs flying fighter planes but that's only a small criticism for what is easily one of Pixar's best films.
Every time I watch this it makes me wish I had a man who would always be by my side no matter what. Love really is a magical thing and losing a loved one is always so tragic. This entire movie is beautiful.
aww i was so shocked i was not exspecting that in rthe begining of the movie but at the end i was suprized he let the money go the two chairs that he had for him and elie and the house floated away i was so sad but he did it to save his friends and the house stayed on the water fall i clapped when that movie was over ONE OF THE BEST DISNEY MOVIES EVER
ive watched the movie like 4 times and each time i've cried... after watching it i felt inspired. i felt like no matter what, just thank the lord for letting you be alive another day. we all want things, but the best gift to have is being alive.
This movie... Before I had the chance to see it for the first time, one of my friends died in a car crash. That friend was very much in love with another friend of mine. They were the only couple I liked being around, because they weren't just mushy. When I looked at them, I saw the love there and admired it rather than feeling intimidated by it. They looked like they would have been together forever. Seeing this movie, seeing Carl act exactly like my friend Carlee after Trevor died...hit home.
