I really want to love this album but i just cant, because I know it is all about alexa. alex's lyrics are amazing, but still a little too intimate for me to be able to enjoy and relax into.
why is it that whenever someone has a different opinion, everyone jumps on their back telling them they're wrong? I agree with the people here who say they should have stuck to what worked, this song does not sound like the band we all fell in love with 3/4 years ago. Why else would their new album have dropped down the charts so quickly? I just hope they return to what they were so good at with their next album!!

Arctic Monkeys have not changed, their music is still the same, they are still the same band, maybe this album sounds a bit more weighty and slow than others...but give it a chance and it will grow on u. You will not want to stop listening to it!

If the band is good enough, theyll make most of their money on concerts, not record sales. Thats how they used to do it. Cds or cassettes were used as publicity for the most part, they were something used to entice people to go to their shows.
Granted, I was just playing devil's advocate. Actually though, they don't make much at all from concerts. Though I don't feel sales should matter much because it's about making good music and it doesn't require much money to get their good music out there.
Im fourteen & my dad got me into the Arctic Monkeys & im glad he did! They are quality, a great British band with smashing lyrics and haunting vocals. People who appreciate the Monkeys work clearly have good taste in music and realise the fact that a song dosnt have to have a million beats and be computer edited dancefloor crap. I love the A.M - with the old songs and the new stuff! Fav Song:Balaclava & Crying Lightning :D

Many bands, sadly, have student fanbases, but the Arctic Monkeys have barely any fans over the age of 18 who aren't students. They're a complete joke - and they only gain praise because they happen to be better than most of the bands around these days, which isn't saying much.
And their singer still needs a haircut and clothes he didn't get from Oxfam.

i liked their stuff whatever album and before that with their LP's and the beneath the boardwalk demo, now u could see the retro thing they're doing with the sounds...its sounds strange more commercial.

Alot of people complaining seem to be moaning that the songs arent "stand out" enough? What is that supposed to mean? I'm sure once the singles get repeated to fuck on the radio and you get used to them you'll consider them "stand out." Some people cant appreciate a good tune, they need affirmation from radio.

How can people honestly say this sounds like the smiths? i dont see it at all, unless you mean the guitar which is quite marr-esque but none of the rest does.
and no it doesnt have a string section or anything but his voice is the same as in the shadow puppets and its not as hard as other monkeys stuff.

this isent like the shadow puppets-they had a string section, this sounds, strange to be honest after a year off you think they would come out with some more "stand out" songs, crying lightning wasent that special either, perhaps when the entire album is released I will change me mind, right now I'm just not feeling it.

whats the point in making your main band sound like your side project?
after crying lightning i was hoping for some darker stuff but unless the rest of the album is different to this i could see it possibly being their last.
