pretty sure it's female. when you lifted it up there was nothing visible. usually with male cats there's like a little nub where their thing is covered with fur. if it isnt neutered its balls tend to be pretty prominent, so you'd probably know if it was an unneutered male.

I think it's a girl cat. It's sort of got three colors, gray, black and some brown under the chin, and male cats can't have more than two fur pigments because a second color is an X chromosome linked trait, so girls can have two additional colors because they have two Xs, but boys have only one X therefore only one additional color. It's a good way to tell a cat's gender without having to violate it.
