Roy may have so called 'Fathered' the butterfly style, but he didn't even come close to some other goalies. his style was erractic and jumpy [see: making a glove save and throwing his arm in the air] he wouldn't have had to make all those erractic saves if he wasn't out of position. He's a goon, and and respectable goaltender at best.
If Hasek had never had to carry Buffalo like he did, or to put it more specifically, if he had spent his career in Detroit from beginning to end, Roy would be an afterthought.
I WILL however say this. As a goalie myself, I've seen a lot of others, and there is no doubt in my mind that there is something in the water in Quebec...Brodeur, Roy, Etc that come from the French portion of Canada...that makes them (Quebecois) the world standard in goaltending.
